Sites hanging on me....

Well, I'm currently using a shared network between 2 computer using a Linksys BEFSX41, and the modem is a SpeedStream 5200. Everytime I visit a certain site, its stops loading about half-way. Could it be my settings? If so which one?

Which site? Does it happen on both computers? Did you try different browsers?

CLOudkiller May 25, 2006 01:59 PM

Like usps.com, gamefaqs.com and a few others and i did test with both comps and they both do the same thing and tried both browsers. It just stops about half-way when loading. Maybe the router and modems settings are wrong... I'll post up a SS of it as we speak maybe it might help.

Double Post:
Maybe these will shed some light on it.

Just found out that it is the Linksys BEFSX41, works fine with other sites on the SpeedStream one, But I'm still kinda new so, I still don't know which settings are'nt right.

When this happens to me and the network I'm on, rebooting fixes it.

Other than that, it could just be plain simple ISP contention. Though I don't think that'd happen for specific sites like you're describing.

Try removing your router from the equation by directly connecting the broadband modem to one of the computers and see what happens. You will need to setup a PPPoE connection in Windows XP network connection wizard.

I'm willing to bet it's the SpeedStream 5200 if you are using SBC/AT&T/Verizon DSL as they seemed to have changed some of their network settings and the 5200s can have various problems on their network.

If this happens to be the case, call them up and have them send you the updated SpeedStream 4100 (yes it is the newer model even though the number is lower.)

It is setted up on a PPPOE connection, and used the modem that came with it, and it worked fine with the site. I think its the Linksys router...
Oh yeah, I just asked them yesterday, and got it about a hour later. I'm setting it up later when I get back from school. Got Finals to take :(.

Just found out that its the boards for gamefaqs.com, any other parts I can freely surf. And I needed to have a static IP to use utorrent, maybe that could be the problem.

Okay, the first step would be to update your router to the latest firmware. Seems you are running a rather old version. You can get the update here.

This may or may not outright solve your problem, but it is a good first step.
