Optional suggestion for people with image-rich journals

Maybe this should be in community commons? Anyway.

I think people should try something like this. You put your huge-ass images in spoiler tags. So that way when everyone wants to read about their Infernals and their Serises or whatever, they don't have to load in 5 dozen images and stretch the tables out like the goatse asshole. I believe that the image isn't downloaded until the spoiler tag is open. (We should check).

People shouldn't have to do it; I'm all for artistic integrity and other bullshit excuses people with useless hobbies/degrees/political beliefs like to make up to put their little comics outside the spoiler tags. But I'm asking GFF to think of the less fortunate. I'm presently weeping, weeping like a little nancy-boy, for the 56k users of this site. Where is the Infernal for them, huh? WHERE??? :aargh:

Thank you.

Most huge images are thumbnailed, and its not like putting images in spoiler tags will make them load faster. Your browser has a stop button FYI.

Anyway, its 2006, i don't think the majority needs to STILL be concerned about slow connections and 800x600 resolutions.

No, the image is downloaded in the spoiler tag.

Where in the world are you getting thumbnailed images from. Unless I choose to from imageshack or do it myself, they're staying the same size.

I only just got fancy internet two months ago, if I survived loading my own crap on a dodgy Australian dial-up connection for years, anyone can! JUST GOTTA BELIEVE! :music:

Edit: Oh man, what happened to the awesome music note smiley? This is a crushing blow!

As was said, (just to make it clear) images inside spoiler tags are still loaded, just like they would without the spoiler tags.

It merely makes reading an image heavy entry/post easier when you don't want to look at pictures (though most of the time the pictures are the point, so that'd be like saying it's easier to surf internet with your monitor off), but it doesn't make loading them any faster.

As I've put in my journal and suggested in the "feaures to add" thread, I'd like to be able to dynamically resize images. I'm not sure what else can go in the [ img ] tags in vBcode, but something like [ img=50] could scale the image down to a height of 50 pixels or something. Or create news tags to do it... or whatever. Meh, this is never happening.

That's it, 30+ large images of gay porn are going up in my journal tonight. This descision is FINAL.

(Also, in your profile, you could just turn off images for the site if you're worried about your browser crashing <<)

I think GFF needs more huge images, not fewer.
