Whenever I download torrents I lose internet connection.
First let me say that whenever I lose internet connection, all the lights on my cable modem start flashing, and then eventually when the connection is back up there are 3 solids.
Well whenever I download torrents, it will be like after a half an hour I'll try to load a web page, and then it won't load. So I'll look at my cable modem and all the lights dim, and then they all start flashing, then it cycles through and they get to solid again. At first I thought it was just a problem with the line, but this only happens when I am downloading torrents. Any idea why? |
Set it up so it connects with less peers.

im not for sure if it works, but i've put utorrent on scheduling, and limiting the bandwidth for certain hours
e.g. i have 5 mbps dsl and my dl speed is about 500-600 kb/s, i limit it to 100 kb/s, my upload is at best 70 kb/s, i limit it to 20kb/s i started it yesterday and its going now and im still able to surf the net, and thats never happened, so you might want to give it a try... |
I've noticed problems with web surfing and uTorrent. When I use all of my upstream bandwidth, pages won't load. So what I do is dial the max upload speed to slightly below the fastest (or at, uTorrent tries to balance web requests and uploading when set equal to your max upload speed) my internet connection is capable of.

Try flashing your router firmware with an alternative version, say, one of the versions here: http://www.thibor.co.uk/#downloads
