I'm Getting Dizzy!!??

Hello Everyone,

I am a true gamer...I play games all the time, well not all the time anymore since I got a girl and a job and everything. Well thats besides the fact, I have been playing games for about 18 years now since the nintendo days and I'm 21 now, just turned 21 March 15th. I play mostly all fields of gaming except sports...and i also play lots of DDR...

Well...suddenly...lately I been finding out that I have been getting Dizzy from playing DDR (even if I'm sitting playing on control). I also find myself getting Dizzy playing Zelda: Wind Waker, and Mario & Luigi DS. This probably started happening about a week or so and its pissing me off because its throwing my gaming way off. I can't score the way I use to in DDR anymore...and its annoying me...

When I played Zelda this morning in my gf's house I had to press pause and close my eyes and take a rest. At first I thought maybe its 3D getting to me suddenly...but after awhile I started to play God Of War with my gf...and I had no problems, no dizzyness what-so-ever...played through fine.

So now i'm starting to believe its the colors getting to me...but if it is why it suddenly starts now after so many years of gaming? Would this really cause the end of my gaming?...

Has anyone had or have this problem and know any way of solving this?

That's very odd. I know that video games and computers can make a person dizzy, but only DDR games? You could try staying away from Zelda for a while (don't panic, try about a week) and then start playing it again to see if it helped. I know that I used to be able to walk up stairs without any trouble, but last year I started suffering a little bit of knee pain whenever I walk up them. Maybe all those years of gaming could have something to do with it.

I wouldn't recommend giving up gaming yet, just take a little break from those DDR games that are giving you a headache to see what happens. You should probably consult someone that has done a lot more gaming than I have to see what else could have caused it. Maybe too many negative waves.

If your dizzyness doesn't go away after a month or so, I'd suggest maybe consulting a doctor espesially if it happens everytime you play these games.

That happened to me a few years ago, when I began taking Concerta.

It took nearly a month to figure out that the medicine was fucking up messages from my body, and I was getting dehydrated because I couldn't tell I was thirsty.

See I would stay away from Zelda no problem...but why would God Of War (A much faster pace game) NOT affect me as much as Zelda did when all I did was walk around to find a Sail for my boat...its just to wierd that I get dizzy for selective games...

Update: I started getting a bit iffy when I was playing Paper Mario also...

Maybe it's the bright colors? My only real guess is that you're becoming more photosensitive, which could end there or could lead to epilepsy eventually. I've heard that it's still possible to develop it later in life, so it is possible. Like Moth scotty said, if it keeps up for a few months you should ask a doctor about it just to be sure it isn't anything to be worried about.

That's not what I said. Somebody else said that. I said that maybe he should consider that another factor in his life that might have changed - say, a new medication, or maybe even something more trivial that he wouldn't have bothered to mention to us - is causing the change.

Augh, crap. I knew someone had said it, and all I did was a quick glance upward. Fixed now.

If the problem persists, see a doctor. If your regular doctor can't find anything wrong, ask if he/she can recommend an eye and an ear doctor. It's most likely a problem with your eyes, but if it isn't then it might be an ear infection that's messing up your equilibrium.

I like the constant reminder of him having a girlfriend.

OKAY BUDDY. WE GOT IT. Are you sure you didn't make her up. Because you're not really convincing me, what with constantly mentioning her.

And you've been playing video games since you were 3. Alright then. (The fuck is this shit.)

Anyways, drink more water. And play less video games.

I can't pinpoint the exact cause of your problem, not with the given information. But some suggestions you should consider, Kloak:

- Depending on how long and how often this has been happening you should see a eye doctor about it. It can be a simple case of needing prescription glasses; yeah, perhaps staring at a bright tube for most of your life has finally taken its toll.

- And then there's the less expensive solution, make sure you hydrate. I notice many gamers (even myself) skip meals/water breaks often enough to induce headaches/dizzyness and "feeling tired all the time." Just drink more water.

And of course Moth is right. There are many factors to consider like:
- Does he take any medication?
- Did he have any recent infections? (ie inner ear infection? Did he get the the flu within the last few months?)
- Any recent change in diet or exercise activities?

But that's what doctors are for. =p

I haven't been taking any medication...but my last sickness lasted me about 7 weeks. That was due by a serious ear infection I had that cause my to get headaches, soar throat, and fever. My friend thinks is because I'm just over working myself...with the DDR/ITG practicing so much and waking up early, around 6AM to help my dad with house work ever since his back gave out...

I wasn't asking for you to be a critic on my Thread...its simple advice, not for you to go ahead and block out the main point to tell me and the people what you think about the un-important facts. It just so happens I was in her house when I started realizing it...I think detail is alittle more better especially when you asking for help...and I added detail...and yes I do have a gf in which is very real...and the playing video games since I was 3...i don't know..it might just mean video gaming is an important part of my life, just because its not important to you...doesn't mean its not important to me...but thanks for your help...I think the water would be a big help to...I'm more of a gatorade, pepsi, ice tea drinker.

How far away do you sit from the television?

I’ve never experienced something like this, but too many hours playing a single game may cause your dizziness. Also, getting yourself checked might ease your worries a bit.

You'll be a lot more stressed if you suddenly have symptoms of epilepsy. Convulsions are NOT relaxing.

Forsety May 3, 2006 01:40 AM

You probably have epilepsy and just never knew it. I've played games pretty seriously my whole life. Never really had any problems with it until I was around 19~20 where dizziness started, eventually leading to poor sleep and then seizures. Tell you right now, seizures aren't fun. Had to go get my tongue stitched up because I bit it clean open during my first serious epileptic fit. Go get checked out if it doesn't stop soon.
