Why are there so many fucktards on the internet?

Seriously! It's like a breeding ground for retards. One would think that there would be an relative balance that would reflect real life, but no! I'm getting quite frustrated at the number of idiotic, un-intelligent, or just plain fucking stupid things I am seeing these days. Want an example? Go to any video on youtube. Scroll down and read the comments posted under the video. The things people say makes me wonder if they have an IQ greater than a bowl of lukewarm porridge.

Sorry :( Many people do it intentionally to piss others off.
I'm still in awe at those people who don't realize how their stupidity floods the internet like no one's business.

Basically a free pass to be as stupid as one wants....I really rue that concept as well.

Aardark May 1, 2006 06:36 PM

I don't care if some people are 'stupid', or whatever. What's really a shame is that many people on the internet become assholes that think they are better than everyone and complain about everything. I'm guilty of it myself, and it's really sad to see that internet does that to people.

But still... Don't people have any pride? I'm sure as hell these idiotic comments don't do wonders for the poster or the reader.

guyinrubbersuit May 1, 2006 06:44 PM

This isn't unique to the internet, its commonplace in the real world. Just go to a mall or some other establishment where people gather and you'll see the IQ of everyone just drop tremendously. I think it has to do with something when you have a lot of people together. People are intelligent by themselves, though extremely stupid in masses.

Aardark May 1, 2006 06:54 PM

That's an interesting idea. I've always thought that introverted people should be more introspective and intelligent, however, in practice, it's often not really so. However there is definitely at least some truth to that theory.

Zephyrin May 1, 2006 08:28 PM

And then there's the people who bitch about the stupid people on the internet when they know they can't do shit about it.

Nehmi May 1, 2006 08:52 PM

Then you get the people who state the obvious.

Sup Zeph. ;)

Eleo May 1, 2006 10:11 PM

Actually I feel that there's a lot of fucktards in the real world, and the internet certainly represents a lot of people in their truest form. Anonymity = no restraints, so everyone can be as fucktard as they want.

I'm not sure I believe that people get dumber in groups. I guess it depends on the size of the group.

Free.User May 1, 2006 11:42 PM

Hmmm... I'm afraid I can't agree. Maybe it has to do with the people I see day to day or where I live, but in real life people seem to be much smarter.

vuigun May 1, 2006 11:54 PM

Part of your statement is correct. You have to consider that it's not really considered 'fun' to be smart in the first place. And since America is the Entertainment capital of the world...most people come on the internet for 'fun'.

The internet can release everything about yourself because you don't have the consequences of society on your back. (Except some random people on the internet getting mad at you and judging you. Oh Noes. They will hurt me, virtually! ;_; )

People will happily resort to barbarianism on the internet. It's where some people can be as mean and obnoxious as they want.

Yes, in real life, some people appear to be smarter and more stable....but get them on a place like the internet and they can seem like an obnoxious brat and/or like Satan himself.

Dullenplain May 2, 2006 12:17 AM

I don't know what paradise y'all are living in, but where I am, there are idiots abound on and offline. Then again, I suppose college campuses are magnets for stupidity. It's like the internet personified.

And I certainly don't understand why people think the sort of veil the internet casts over you gives you free reign to release your bad side, or in the least, their cocky "I'm the best" side, which I think is bad enough.

Ah, well . . .

Anonymity. You can type whatever you want and get less consequences then in the real word.

People will easily say 'shut the fuck up' to someone on the net but most won't be so quick to say that to a real person. Especially if that person is right there and could potentially harm them in some way.

Dullenplain May 2, 2006 12:33 AM

Even so, I don't find that incentive enough to dispense with manners entirely. And even in the internet there are consequences, they can't be immediately reciprocated, but people can get pretty worked up. Where else does the drama come from online?

vuigun May 2, 2006 12:43 AM

Well, you have a very good point there. Maybe it's simply clashing personalities.

HostileCreation May 2, 2006 02:16 AM

If I was capable of uninventing the internet, I would seriously consider doing it.

Progress should not be this annoying.

Says you. I will gladly tell someone who is pissing me off to shut the fuck up at the drop of a hat. I do it all the time and 9 times out of 10, I don't know anyone who's actually man (or woman) enough to do anything about it; other than actually shut the fuck up.

If they attack, I defend. If it just so happens that I get my ass kicked, oh well. At least you'll live to fight another fight and you don't have to live under the knowledge that you're too much of a pussy to voice your opinion about anything because, you know, you're afraid to get your ass kicked.

What do you mean? More so than in real life, you can pretty much ignore anything you want to on the internet. If you don't want to be annoyed by dumb people, stay off of poorly moderated forums and IRC channels. In real life, there's a sensible limit as to how much you can avoid the public.

Certainly a lot of things like shopping or paying bills can be done on the internet, and depending on your job you might have a great deal of customer interaction or none at all. Why don't you uninvent the real world; we can all just download our consciousnesses onto the internet~

Disclaimer: there is no plausibility in the above statement

Yeah you should die. No Internet = no download = End of life. >.>

What's so fun about it? I don't quite understand why they must be total jerks on the net. I personally think that those persons must be idiots in real life as well. I could understand that a 9 years old posting random crap on the internet, but its a shame to see 21+ years old still posting those random spam.

Parents shouldn't let their young kids surf on Internet. They'll grow with stupidity all around them. (And pr0n)

YES. The real world is full of incredible fucktards too. Most people I meet, I'd rather not have. Some people seem OK at first, only to reveal their inner fucktard later. The internet just accelerates the process of Inner Fucktard Revelation.

Franky Mikey May 2, 2006 09:47 AM

Well, I guess there's also the question of whether YouTube comments truly reflect "the internet".

There is a such thing as Passive people in the world. Which is why I know all people don't act the same way on the internet. Keep in mind that I said, most on my first post as well.

And when I said harm, I meant, in any way. Not just with fists.
Tell your boss to 'shut the fuck up' and see what happens.
