Didn't realise it was a Battle Week. Here's my point distribution:

(2 points) Raystorm Neu Tanz Mix - Aquarium

(2 points) Turrican Original Video Game Soundtrack - Freedom

(1 point) Wander and the Colossus ~Roar of the Earth~ Original Soundtrack - Revived Power ~Battle With the Colossus

(1 point) Drag-on Dragoon 2 Original Soundtrack - Fate

"Blue Whitecaps" almost got a point. Maybe it'll grow on me with more time.

This is tough. Which is nice. The harder it is to decide, the better the winners have been. Right off the bat, I can write off the two that I gave no points to during their weeks. As for the remaining six, I want them all to place.

Nightrain is the outright coolest track here and it's freeform nature throughout never annoys (though it does drag a little by it's end).

Fate may be a little more monotone in it's sound offerings compared to others in the running, but certainly has the most clearly defined intended effect and range of emotion.

Freedom fools you into thinking it may be standard fair at first, but gets better and better as it progresses adding and altering elements quite well. The end result it tremendously satisfying.

Beyond the Earth is the most spirited and energized. It's a fun track, the sort I don't mind keeping on repeat for extended periods.

Blue Whitecaps sure is darned pretty. Probably the most comfortable track. It's like easy listening, only captivating.

Despite the jabs Aquarium takes about coming from the week of dullness, its relaxing nature and mix of rythmic acoustics and mellow synth won me over from the first listen.

I  you all. But this is the way it has to be.

www.ssh.ne.jp - Nightrain I still like the synthy parts; wish they were longer, as the song is kind of boring when they're absent. The guitar in the later section is teetering on the edge of unlistenability.

Drag-on Dragoon 2 Original Soundtrack - Fate As baroque and classically-inclined as ever, neither of which tends to be an adjective associated with BATTLE winners. I enjoy the piano quite a bit, though the strings can grate a little.

Wander and the Colossus ~Roar of the Earth~ Original Soundtrack - Revived Power ~Battle With the Colossus~ Everyone seems to hate this track, but I stand firm in my support of it. Considered independantly of its album, which may or may not contain "better" tracks, it is still tense and original. The wind flourishes are great, and back up a strong brass section, with metal-on-metal hits as accents. Even though it beat one of my own nominations, I'll defend this one til the day I go deaf.

Turrican Original Video Game Soundtrack - Freedom More great piano work, more poppish here than "Fate" but still strong. The modern synthy accompaniment gives this one a slightly wider appeal, and the strings are able to carry the melody very well.

pop'n music 12 Iroha AC & CS pop'n music 10 - Beyond the Earth -Original Long Version- I really like the melody at the beginning, but I could really do without the random people shouting in the background, and the "main melody"--the one in the forefront for most of the song--isn't anywhere near as strong as that at the beginning of the loop. If the people in the background shut up and the beginning melody was extended to encompas more of the track, this song would be teh sex. As is, it's flawed.

Nobunaga's Ambition: Haouden - Blue Whitecaps Excellent piano, though it gets shoved to the background. I'm not to fond of the guitar section, since it represents a pretty radical change from the sections that went before it.

Raystorm Neu Tanz Mix - Aquarium Bond, James Bond. So says the opening. What does the rest of the song say? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Future Tactics: The Uprising (Game Rip) - Enemy Attack II Secret Agent Maaaaaan! The attacking enemies must all be wearing Hawaiian shirts and dark glasses. I really like the string melody here, even if the Secret Agent Maaaaaan guitars threaten to bury it.

The Point Spread
Colossi - 3 pts.
Turrican Sam - 2 pts.
Drag-On Dragon Dragoon's Dragged-On Dragoon Dragon - 1 pt.

Although I've already voted at Soundtrack Central, I'd like to say way to find new music!! Nightrain surprised the heck out of me, and as of now, it is one of my favourite tracks. The same can be said for Freedom. Way to go CHz!

Pretty good batch of tracks in this battle with Fate and Colossus being the only two I didn't care for. Interesting to note that three tracks from this battle are currently facing off in the SotY wildcard round.

The spread:
3 points: Nightrain
1 point: pop'n music
1 point: Blue Whitecaps
1 point: Freedom

One of the best selection of winners that I can remember.

<3 points> Blue Whitecaps

<2 points> Freedom

<1 point> Beyond the Earth -Original Long Version-

As I prepare my next nomination to be panned, I have a question.

The track in question is in 64th note, .miniusf extension. Since not everyone has the plug-in, do I myself need to convert it to mp3? The soundtrack in question did not have an OST, so the rip's the only version available.

There's still no Mac USF player (:(), so I would greatly appreciate it if you convert the track for me.

CHz, you need an Intel-based Mac so you can DUALBOOT.

TCK May 6, 2006 05:14 PM

Or not a Mac at all!

Not a bad result, all things considered--even a number two pick coming out on top is a victory for me :D

I'm still mystified by the lack of support for the Colossus track, considering how popular it seemed in its own week. C'est la vie.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon May 8, 2006 03:02 PM

Im pretty well elated. I honestly thought Blue Whitecaps or Nightrain would take the prize. But a sincere thanks to everyone who gave Freedom support!

Waiting for week 57 voting~

As for my nomination, I think I'm going to go ahead and proceed with something from Mr. Driller Sound Tracks; likely "balance". Last chance to influence my song selection by listening to any first n tracks of your choosing (I have them ranked):

Balance is good, yes. I also enjoyed "GO" and "Orchid" a lot.

If you hadn't abridged most of the filenames, I'd have saved the bulk of them for myself. If you have them in an original source someplace, that'd be great.

I'm still trying to find a well tagged rip myself. I've seen multiple translations for the titles. Anybody here have the #gamemp3s release?
