Anime/Manga Series About Or Related To Music
Hello, would you like to recommend me some? Oh, you would? Yes? That's excellent!
To start off, these are the series I know of so far: BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad Full Moon Rave Master Kaikan Phrase Macross 7 Recommendations Chance! Pop Sessions (contributed by RockgamerXIII) Nodame Cantabile (contributed by Summonmaster) Perfect Blue (contributed by Outlaw) Piano (contributed by Summonmaster) |
Chance Triangle Session (or Chance Pop Session for the U.S. version) is a good series focused around music. It's about the rise of these three pop singers who are following in the footsteps of their idol. It might be too sugary for some, but I liked the catchy songs, cute costumes, etc. Give it a shot!

Perfect Blue if you like psychological anime. I've been meaning to watch it....but I can't find the DVD anywhere...

however, personally, I just don't think it gets much better than Beck. |
Haven't seen either but Piano and Da Capo MUST have something to do with Music.
I know certainly that the manga Nodame Cantabile is music related since it's about concert students. Quite interesting actually depictng "the passion musicians have." |
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I've edited my original post to include them all, as well as added Rave Master.
|
Relating to Music????Well, all of Evangelion: Death and Rebirth is centered around a strings practuce. RahXephon is basiced on music, the names of everything have to do with it. The Place Promised in our Early Days is about 2 violinests, i believe
|
If you really want to stretch it a bit...
20th Century Boys...hahah the title is basically T.Rex's piece. |
There's always the Violinist of Hamelin.
|
Whilst not totally "about" music, RahXephon is full of musical this n that.
|
You know something....I forgot Gravitation. It maybe Shounen-ai, but it's very much centered around music.
If series that reffrence music count, then there's Cowboy Bebop....most of the series tittles are those of songs or album titles and there are in episode reffrences to diffrent musicians from time to time mixed in with alot of other popcluture reffrences. There's also Samurai Champloo. Which has a main focus around rap and hip hop like CB was with Jazz and Blues. |

You could also check out Daft Punk's, Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. This movie is centered around Daft Punk's entire Discovery CD. No words. Check it out. |
w00t, the suggestions simply flow like flowing stuff! I've stumbled upon yet another series, this time a manga called One.
|
Princess Tutu has tons of awesome classical music since well it's about ballet mixed with magic and fairy tales. Really excellent show. Don't let the name put you off. Despite the girly name it is very deep and at times very dark.

Thanks for the suggestion, AcerBandit. EDIT: Episode 4 contains some musical references. :p |
The Versus (V.S.) manga series revolves around classical music (in particular violins). It can be considered as a very generic Nodame Cantabile (minus the comedy and everything remotely fun) that takes itself seriously in a very awful way.

There's an anime called The Legend of Black Heaven that has something to do with rock/metal, though I haven't seen it so I can't comment on it.
And while RahXephon has a lot of connections to music and is otherwise a great series, it's too bad the actual music to the series (i.e. soundtrack) is almost non-existent. From what I recall most of it was just some short cues mixed with a cacophony of piano, cymbal and trumpet noises. Biggest mistake was not hiring Kanno to do the entire soundtrack, could have been so great. :( Apparently the score was supposed to be "jazzy" or something but to me it almost sounded like someone was just randomly hitting the instruments now and then. Maybe I'm just an uneducated buffoon. Quote:

NANA is half about music.
|
La Corda d'Oro/Kiniro no Corda, if you like fresh anime with cute characters (cute boys, especially).
For manga, you can try Oshaberi na Amadeus. The story is a bit exagarating though. It's about a girl who is struggling in the world of violin. |

i would Recommend Beck for rockers and nodame for classical music lovers
those are the best music base anime's i've seen ever the rest just dance around in the plot. |
Bremen has something to do with music. It's about a rock band which gets in fights all the time. I stopped reading after the 4th volume. Cant remember why.
|
BECK was awesome! i couldn't stop watching it!
at the moment, i'm watching Nodame Cantabile, which is just as good. different style of music of course, but music nonetheless. :D |
Black Heaven.
It's this weird anime that came out a few years back about rock 'n' roll saving outer space. It's weird as hell but it's awesome. You can find it on DVD, but the best place to look is a used DVD store or eBay now. It's not too old, but old enough that it's getting hard to find now. I lucked up and found it at Best Buy about year ago for $25 for the whole series. I will warn you, the music is good but the main theme gets played WAAAAY too much. By episode 13, you want to put it on mute. Everything else about it is cool, though. |
You can try Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica. Weird name, yes, based off a visual(non-H) yes.
I haven't watched it myself personally but I did some research on it and yeilded this: Quote:
