DVD-RW Firmware Flashing
I've got a rather old Lite-On LDW-451S. I updated it with the official firmware some time ago, but I still don't trust it to be able to burn properly on certified 8x DVD-R without problems. I think that I saw a method of flashing the firmware to turn it into an 8x burner a few months ago. Does anybody know where I can find a guide to firmware flashing? I'd rather avoid spending money on a new drive as I've got a lot of other expenses coming up soon. Or maybe it doesn't matter? Does anybody have experience burning on certified 8x media with an older drive like mine?

That is a rather old drive, I have it on one of my PCs and the maximum it writes up to is 4X. You're really pushing it when you try to double of what it's meant to do, if you do flash to 8X...if even possible then you may find yourself with poor quality burns. Always good to verify the sectors on your DVD after writes anyway to keep on top of your drive's performance.
