Mother 3

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/a3uj/index.html

So yea, the game is out - not on DS, but on GBA. I'm quite surprised by this, but it's good to see they finally made part 3 of the series. From what I've seen, this game is really really good.

deadally Apr 23, 2006 09:12 AM

I downloaded a ROM just to get a feel for the game. The music is really good, and judging from the beginning, once they translate it (I believe Nintendo will given how big a phenomenon it is in Japan) it's going to be a gas!

vuigun Apr 23, 2006 11:41 AM

Well, you can't judge what a company will do based on what happens in Japan.

Look at how the XBox 360 did in America compared to Japan.

They might not bring it over here.

deadally Apr 23, 2006 12:08 PM

That the 360 sucked ass in Japan in not pertaining to whether they'll release a game over here, so keep your pessimism out

Yes, it is the same type of situation. Games sell differently in different places. They never released the Mother 1 + 2 GBA collection over here now did they?

Don't get all pissy because someone tells you something you don't want to hear. It's good to think of all options kid.

Just don't have a nervous breakdown if the game actually doesn't come over here.

deadally Apr 23, 2006 12:42 PM

But your logic is flawed. They brought the 360 from America to Japan. THEN it failed.

Mother 1+2 wasn't more wanted than Metal Gear Solid 4 before it came out, so I don't understand the comparison

I'm not getting pissy because you're not giving me my candy. I'm getting pissy because your claims are totally unbased. I also believe that since they brought Mother 2 over here when it was a hit in Japan gives us more reason to be optimistic than pessimistic

And I won't have a nervous breakdown if it doesn't. I'll learn Japanese

JazzFlight Apr 23, 2006 12:46 PM

Well, listen. You can't deny that even stuff that's popular in Japan doesn't get released over here.

Otherwise, we'd have a ton more horse racing, pachinko, and dating simulators.

deadally Apr 23, 2006 12:51 PM

I cannot deny that; however, Mother is no less than a phenomenon, and it is no mere horse racing game or dating sim

It's the same point. The 360 did horrible in Japan but good in America.

Something that does good in a Company can do bad in another.

I seriously don't know how to simplify this anymore.

Sure.

If you want to do that whole optimistic thing then you still need to look at both ways it could go. I say that the game could possibly not be realized here and you get all pissy about it.

Okay then. So we can end this conversation.

I've haven't had a pointless conversation like this ever since I left gamefaqs community. What a lovely memory jogging.

Yeah, but phenomenon in the US? Earthbound didn't sell that well over here, even with promotion.

deadally Apr 23, 2006 01:27 PM

It is a cult phenomenon in the US. Assuming they bring it over, I'm sure they'd run a better marketing campaign.

I'm pretty sure they'll bring Mother 3 over given that it's to be successful in Japan. Interest over here is definitely striking, as well. Again, I'm pretty sure they'll bring that, and I also believe they'll bring Mother 1+2, but that's a bit more wishful.

Sonic, evoking "Gamefaqs argument, lol" won't validate your points.

Consider this, they took the XBox to Japan. It failed. The XBox 360 develops huge hype over here. They take it to Japan. That's the stage we're at here. Sonic, your parallel makes no sense because they haven't brought Mother 3 here, and it hasn't failed. I get your stupid point that a game can fail. That's not what I'm arguing. I'm arguing that the failure of the 360 doesn't mean ANYTHING to Mother 3. If anything, the parallels between the 2 generations should create greater optimism, since Microsoft tried twice. Nintendo only tried once with its Mother series.

Here's a simplification, since you're so used to reading Gamefaqs

XBox=Success in America, failure in Japan
Mother 2= Success in Japan, "failure" in America

XBox 360= Success in America, Failure in Japan
Mother 3= Succes in Japan (most likely), not released in America

vuigun Apr 23, 2006 01:37 PM

The X-Box 360 was an example. Example. Example. Example. You get it yet?

By observing your reactions, I believe you are either an underage user or from Gamefaqs. Maybe both.

Just sit here and argue with people who aren't arguing back.

deadally Apr 23, 2006 01:49 PM

Well, you should offer an example with more pertinence to the conversation, instead of being a prick about it with useless insults. I'm done with you.

At any rate, Mother 3 is definitely an exciting game. I'm glad I had the willpower not to get the Deluxe Set since so many preorders are just getting filled. I would have loved to get my hands on that Franklin Badge, but it just wasn't worth the 200$ import!

Reidman over at Starmen.net has been leaking info (he's basically a Nintie insider, apparently) that has everybody excited for Mother 3's possible release here. Essentially, we'll have to wait for E3 to find out for sure. I'm just so happy that Itoi's next-in-line has finally come out after so many years

vuigun Apr 23, 2006 01:53 PM

I'm the prick when you told me to leave after I gave my first example. Sure.

I love how you said "I'm done with you" after I tried to end the conversation some posts ago. Well, whatever makes you feel better and lets you walk away with a bit of dignity.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 23, 2006 02:55 PM

Shut the fuck up, you're both being retarded.

The game is funny and fun (I think I've said that before). The battle system's a bit archaic, but I would be appalled if they tried to give the series a new look.

deadally Apr 23, 2006 03:10 PM

I've been saying over and over this year that the Mother series parallels Dragon Warrior a lot...not the least of which by it battle system.

I read that the game feels designed to skew off in a totally new direction, saying "I liked this and I liked that" from the old series. Given the little bit I played, this feels certainly true.

It's supposed to be pretty heart-wrenching, too. Not that I want it spoiled

HostileCreation Apr 23, 2006 06:20 PM

"Shut the fuck up, you're both being retarded."

Pretty much.
I started playing Earthbound a few days ago. I'd started games before, but never my own so I never played all the way through. Based on what I've seen so far, Mother 3 is an instant purchase for me when it's released here.
(Cuz it better be.)
Earthbound is awesome so far. Here's hoping this comes stateside.

So was Firefly. So was Beyond Good and Evil.
Even with super happy big advertising, some things just don't sell. :(

deadally Apr 24, 2006 06:26 AM

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. I have little doubt that they will BRING it over here, and I also have little doubt that it will fail because of the reasons stated here. It would probably be more successful than Mother 2, but overall it won't beat Madden. It's a shame, but that's probably going to be the truth

Hopefully I'm proved wrong on the latter

Grawl Apr 24, 2006 07:29 AM

Are we going to have an endless discussion about something we don't know, or what?

FatsDomino Apr 24, 2006 10:25 AM

Mother 3 will get released over here or the US fans will destroy NOA with all of their passion.

Mother 1+2 doesn't stand as good a chance though. I hope they at least have those two games on the virtual console. It's odd that it never came out over here considering both games have been translated into English already.

vuigun Apr 24, 2006 11:24 AM

Well, I was playing Earthbound on a Emulator, only to have a faulty save so I never got that far on the game.

I was surprised by the oddness of the game. I enjoyed the portion of the beginning that I played though. I'll probably get it for the Revolution and beat it on that. Then I'll venture on to this game.
