Laptop + Nvidia 8x.xx driver problem
I recently upgraded my laptop video driver from the 7x.xx to the 8x.xx series which includes the new Nvidia control panel. I'm enjoying a healthy increase in performance from the new drivers however I'm faced with a very annoying problem.
The video card is a 6800go, so it has dual screen support via DVI or D-Sub. The laptop screen runs at a 1920x1200 resolution, and I am unable to change the resolution of the DVI or D-Sub output unless a monitor is connected and even then, if I change the resolution then remove a monitor screen 2 is set back to 640x480. The problem is it seems the 8x.xx drivers are designed to output to the DVI or D-Sub when the lid is closed which unfortunately also sets windows to the output resolution which is locked at 640x480 when a monitor is not connected to the outputs. As a result, my opened windows are all resized to fit a 640x480 resolution as well as being pushed to the upper left side of the screen after the lid is opened and windows reverts back to 1920x1200. So before I go back to the 7 series drivers which did not have this issue, has anyone ran into a solution to this problem? It seems to be able to solve the problem, I would need a method to prevent screen 2 from automatically becoming the primary screen when the laptop lid is closed and screen 1 is shut off as a result. Unfortunately simple driver settings in the Nvidia control panel or the windows display manager doesn't allow for this. |
