Films with the Best Dialogue
 

I have to do some research on dialogue and films, and need some help. Which films do you all think have great (preferably witty / comedic) dialogue? My top pick so far is The Squid and the Whale, because it is absolutely hilarious, and at the same time very believeable. And I'm talking about films with a more contemporary setting, not something that deals with the 16th century.

just for starters.

I always thought "Slacker" (Slackers?) was pretty dialogue oriented.

Adding on to the list:

Trainspotting
Resevoir Dogs
Falling Down

I agree with Snatch.

Also to the list:

- V for Vendetta
- Chasing Amy
- Romeo + Juliet
- Crash
- 9 Queens

Amy is on the list. V does not have great dialogue. Romeo + Juliet is period dialogue, he said he doesn't want that. Crash, all right... sort of, and yea, nine queens.

Some people will probably hate me for saying it, but I think Donnie Darko has its moments.

How do you people not know that list threads aren't good?

Put a little more oomph into your posts.

You can't blame people for following Denicalis' precedent since after all he is the authority on how posts should be made.

I actually had my hair cut the way he does.

Just watched American Psycho for the millionth time and the dialogue is awesome. The interactions between characters is unbelievably funny as are the voice overs.

"Because I want to fit in."

"I need to return some videotapes."

"Huey's too black sounding for me."

"You look... marvelous. There's nothing to say."

I just love it when he's breaking down and says "I... I ate some of their brains!"

Other great dialogue movies include:

-V for Vendetta (gotta love that alliteration speech at the beginning)
-Brick (whole movie's dialogue is clever noir detective speak)

I liked the character banter in Clerks. It was witty at points, and the discussions they had were also enjoyable, such as the Death Star Talk.

Yeah, the acting was wooden and the dialogue wasn't realistic (sounded more like a play), but at least it was clever, nerdy, and funny.
