Attack Rate - The FM
This is a fun piece with some of that old-school SNES/Genesis synth sound and some good melodic chops. Doom (ZX Spectrum Game Rip) - DOO-O-O-O-OOOM!!! UK Computers have such overblown names that belie their chiclet keyboards, but seemingly scratch the same nostalgia itch for puddlejumpers as the C64 does for us Yanks. This has actually got some good rhythm for a chippy and manages to do its thing without becoming too shrill a la the aforementioned C64. Also: was I the only one who thought this was some kind of bizarre Spectrum port of the old id FPS? Puzzlejuice Soundtrack - Over-Juiced! (unused alternate version) BGC knows his way around a synthesizer; it's no wonder that they brought him onboard for Mass Effect: The Deuce (and more's the pity he wasn't brought back). This is the sort of bright, busy and melody-rich synthiness I can get behind. Makes me think of a neon metropolis, like Los Angeles November 2019 without the suck. Ratchet and Clank - Size Matters (Game Rip) - Outpost Ruins Ah, R&C and its penchant for dirty subtitle puns. Like most of the series' music, this is great atmosphere but not much on its own, lacking a real melody or hook aside from grungy 70s licks. Saint Dragon - Dark Subterranean Cave (Area 2) Sounds like something one of the later 16-bit Mega Man Xs would have featured, with all the technical proficiency and blandness that implies. THE INVISIBLE FORCE - Piano To Your Head This was merely meh until the talking started, which resulted in an instant Game Over. The Scythian Steppes - Seven Sworcery Songs Localized for Japan - Little Furnace (Mitsuto Suzuki - Post-Production Mix) Long of the Week title winner right there :) It's technically interesting but unmelodic and kind of boring, like a Hamauzu song without the pretension. To its credit, though, things do pick up near the end. The Point Spread Beetlejuice - 3 pts. FM Towns Run For It Marty - 2 pts. Doom On You - 1 pt. Nom to come. |

That is the best thing ever.

(3 points) Puzzlejuice Soundtrack - Over-Juiced! (unused alternate version): I'm a total BGC supporter (loved his Impostor Nostalgia disc), and this is another example why. Bustling upbeat feel over a rolling synthesizer melody. This belongs on the SimCity 4 soundtrack.
(2 points) Attack Rate - The FM: I like how the melodic lead is a little bit downbeat, it keeps the whole track grounded nicely. (1 point) The Scythian Steppes - Seven Sworcery Songs Localized for Japan - Little Furnace (Mitsuto Suzuki - Post-Production Mix): Not surprising that all three of these have the same bouncy, synthy feel (you can see what I gravitate to). This one has a little more wall of sound than a super-strong melody, but it still works. |
This week is really cool. Mitsuto Suzuki is a god.

2 points: Outpost Ruins
2 points: Piano To Your Head 1 point: Dark Subterranean Cave (Area 2) 1 point: The FM Just Missed: Little Furnace, DOO-O-O-O-OOOM!!!, Over-Juiced! (unused alternate version) The Jaleco sound is strong in Area 2. But aside from that, wow, had no idea that Sizilla Okamura worked on something other than Viewpoint and that one Ketsui arrange from the OST. Quickly learning that my arcade music knowledge is deteoritating and I need to fix that. Revisiting the Bergeaud R&C tunes, I'm impressed at how solid the producion is for them, especially considering the sheer amount of music in each game. Outpost Ruins lacks substance but between the drum loop handling and that adorable distorted... thing at the beginning that trys to talk to us, I've been listening to it a lot. How does Doom even work on a ZX Spectrum. Good week. TO THE BCDSC |

aaaaaaaaaaaA a a joltoltjolt } } } } I feel BAD for missing last week for nominating something.
My computer broke, so I wasn't able to upload anything to nominate anything (though I guess I could have just said "hey guys I don't have a computer can someone else Upl0ad"). I have a computer now so that shouldn't be a problem anymore! ...I'll take a L15t3N to this week in a bit, and maybe nominate something for the next!! |
I feel kind of bad doing this on a week that only has 7 PIECES, but...

3 pts. - The FM - Only song that really captured me this week.
1 pt. - Over-Juiced! 1 pt. - Little Furnace 1 pt. - DOO-O-O-O-OOM!!! Nom: Album: Sir Benfro's Brilliant Soundtrack Artist: Tom Colvin (of Sudeki fame) Track Title: Benfro Theme Track #: 1 Catalog #: N/A Year: 2012 Source: Uh... Spotify. Here's an Amazon MP3 link, for reference. Notes: Cheery! It was a tough decision between this and track 2, Yellow Leaves. I think I prefer listening to the latter, but unfortunately the drums don't totally jive with the feel of the song, and that rubs me the wrong way. |
welp guess it's gonna be six also
