So I was looking at the nom archive, and apparently we've had picks from Metal Slugs 2/X, 4, 5, 6, and 3D, but not the first? Guess what I'm fixing.

Here be me votes.
(3 points)Kyle Pulver's Games - Everyone Loves Active 2 What is this fantastic track that everyone loves?! The clear-cut winner for me this week. (2 points) Crepuscular - Crepuscular Actually, this also sounds like a B-side to a Nifflas game (which is a good thing in my books). The retro-game sounds are so very quaint. (1 point) Rhythm Tengoku Complete Music Collection - Twoside Bouncey fun. |
Conker's Bad Fur Day Soundtrack - Rock Solid When it comes to Conker, I think we're all going to have to admit that the pinnacle of its music is a giant singing piece of shit. The remainder is the same without the singing.
Crepuscular - Crepuscular Ambient quasi-jazz fusion. I can see this working well in the game but it's only meh outside of it. Gikyokuonsou - Humpty Dumpty I though this was really building to something cool, and then came the painfully anemic piano and panpipes. And later: synth noodling. Disappointing. Killer Cuts - Do It Now! I was always super disappointed with Killer Cuts, largely because it was .0001% music from the actial game and 99.9999% obnoxious stuff "inspired by." I know some peeps like it when their music talks or yells at them, but I ain't one. Kyle Pulver's Games - Everyone Loves Active 2 I think this is what Crepuscular aspired to be: still ambient but a lot more lively and with some interesting ideas. Ranger Wars OST - A Distant Arena It's like a Mega Man 6 song. Your opinion of Mega Man 6 songs will determine whether or not that counts as a good thing. Rhythm Tengoku Complete Music Collection - Twoside As the man says, bouncy fun. Quasi-interesting fact: I read that as "Twoson" or maybe "Fourside" at first and was expecting an Earthbound remix. The Monopoly Game 2 (Game Rip) - Boardwalk Cup Final I'd much rather just play Monopoly and hum to myself. The Point Spread Arena, Distant - 3 pts. Twoside, Fourson - 2 pts. Active 2, Nobody Loves - 1 pt. Nomination to come. If Muzz guesses the game, composer, or genre I will eat my hat :D |

3 points: Boardwalk Cup Final
2 point: Rock Solid 1 point: Twoside Missed: Humpty Dumpty, Crepuscular, Do It Now! huuuuuuuuuuuh. |
(3 points) Kyle Pulver's Games - Everyone Loves Active 2: I love it too. Nimble and airy, very pleasurable to listen to.
(2 points) Crepuscular - Crepuscular: Some moody synth and nice atmosphere, I can dig it. (1 point) Ranger Wars OST - A Distant Arena: I had the same exact thought as Orion -- this thing is a dead ringer for Mega Man music. I'm not sure if the fact that it came out last year (instead of, say, 1993) is a plus or a minus. |
2 points: Crepuscular
1 point: Rock Solid 1 point: Humpty Dumpty 1 point: Everyone Loves Active 2 1 point: A Distant Arena To me, Crepuscular was the strongest of the bunch. It started off with some awesome atmospheric instrumentation and transitioned into a very groovy, catchy melody. The 1-pointers also had some strong points to them, but weren't as solid as Crepuscular. Let's Do It Now! and Twoside were right on the edge of receiving points, but they just weren't quite strong enough to stand up to the 1-pointers. Boardwalk Cup Final was just sort of "meh". =/ (I have a hard time describing my subjective dis/enjoyment of music, so my apologies to the nominators who are looking for a better description of what I liked/didn't like about their nominations.) My nomination:
Edit: Apparently the board converts hiragana into ?'s. :-_-: |

3 points: Rhythm Tengoku Complete Music Collection - Twoside
2 points: Crepuscular - Crepuscular 1 point: Gikyokuonsou - Humpty Dumpty If anyone is actually curious about the rhythm shifts in Twoside: this piece plays in a minigame where you alternate between tapping on the beat and on the eighth notes between the beats. The bass and percussion straighten out during the offbeat sections to reinforce the beat, making it easier to figure out when to tap. One of my favorite audio cues in the game. Note that there isn't really an explanation for anything else that happens in the piece, so it still fits right in. |
3 points: Kyle Pulver's Games - Everyone Loves Active 2
2 points: Ranger Wars OST - A Distant Arena 1 point: Crepuscular - Crepuscular I actually really like this too for some reason: The Monopoly Game 2 (Game Rip) - Boardwalk Cup Final "Humpty Dumpty" :tpg: Standard Sakuraba to me, which is definitely not a good thing. Other than that, a fine week! Indietastic! |
2 points: Killer Cuts - Do It Now!
2 points: The Monopoly Game 2 (Game Rip) - Boardwalk Cup Final 1 point: Gikyokuonsou - Humpty Dumpty 1 point: Ranger Wars OST - A Distant Arena Just missed: Crepuscular, Everyone Loves Active 2 LET'S DO IT NOW!~!!!!! Twoside is Kirby music; can't say much about that. Everyone Loves Active 2 was meandering at first, but the second half came in and I liked it a lot more. Every time I listen to Boardwalk Cup Final, I get this huge grin on my face. :D Nomination:

3 points: Rhythm Tengoku Complete Music Collection - Twoside
2 points: Ranger Wars OST - A Distant Arena 1 points: Crepuscular - Crepuscular I still hate y'all, but when I heard Twoside was in here I had to come make an appearance. It's without a doubt one of my favorite tunes in Rhythm Heaven Gold, second only to probably the Karate Guy songs, which is funny considering how infinitely frustrating the Twoside game actually is at first. |
3 Points - Gikyokuonsou - Humpty Dumpty

Don't worry, with a nomination in virtually every week aberrations like this happen on average once every six months :D |
orion won?! Something is amiss this week. Must be Tails... jk way to go, orion.
Looking back at my track history, most of my nominations win either first or last place. Results are more skewed to the latter. Love/hate relationship? |
Congrats, orion! It's been a long time coming!
