THE POWER OF WATER Dec 13, 2011 03:10 PM

I have been waiting months to
  • Album: Blocks That Matter
  • Artist: Morusque (Yann van der Cruyssen)
  • Track #: 9
  • Track Title: Tetrobot
  • Year: 2011 (August)
  • So Apparently: No one sent me the memo that Nurykabe's now going by Morusque, way to keep me in the loop guys. Only realized it when I beat this game and "Yann van der Cruyssen" rolled in the credits and my mind broke.
  • (Although to Be Fair: The soundtrack to this game then made complete sense and I kicked myself for not figuring it out sooner.)
  • Source: Blocks That Matter - VGMdb

orion_mk3 Dec 13, 2011 03:25 PM

"Tetrobot" instead of "Star?" It's like I don't even know you anymore.

THE POWER OF WATER Dec 14, 2011 12:00 AM

Star was just a convenient fake chiptune punchline, and while I do love that thing to death, it's not my favorite and I don't really plan to nominate it anywhere. Though if anyone feels like picking it up, or Sand, or really anything else from the BTM soundtrack, I support the nomination of every last piece into every last music contest. Every single one.

Kaleb.G Dec 14, 2011 07:50 AM

"Gold" is the best track. Why lie?

Chuckster Dec 16, 2011 11:55 AM

(3 points) ClaDun x2 (Game Rip) - Dance of Kalmor: Like the bass, the interweaving synth elements, even dropping some piano in there. This has a Nakano feel to it.

(2 points) Attack Rate - Real Life: I know it's not, but it's got a Watanabe vibe to it.

(1 point) Terranigma (Game Rip) - Prayer: Classic Terranigma right there. I should listen to the full soundtrack at some point in my life.

Elorin Dec 17, 2011 10:55 AM

Quick votes before I forget!

(3 points) Attack Rate - Real Life

(2 points) ClaDun x2 (Game Rip) - Dance of Kalmor

(1 point) Terranigma (Game Rip) - Prayer

Special mentions: Jekyll and Hyde (would be great as a Yuletide nom), G.T.R.

isdapi Dec 19, 2011 07:20 AM

<<2 Points>> Attack Rate - Real Life
<<2 Points>> Super Stick Golf original soundtrack - Cloud City
<<1 Point>> G.T.R. - G.U.T - G.T.F.O.

Attaching my song to a bull and waving a red flag in front of the FTP

THE POWER OF WATER Dec 24, 2011 02:56 AM

Well I guess I'm not going to close this on Sunday for Yule-related reasons, so how about Monday? You know, if you guys nominate and vote, which'd be nice.

3 points: Bucky O'Hare (Arcade Game Rip) - Stage 2: Planet Punk
2 points: G.T.R. - G.U.T
1 point: ClaDun x2 (Game Rip) - Dance of Kalmor

I loves me some old Matsuo <33333333. Not that current Matsuo is bad at all because dude still rules, but I miss the earlier period in his career when he wrote prog/jazzy stuff like G.U.T all the god damned time because it's all super fantastic.

What happened to Cloud City's stereo balance. :( (Also what's going on with Real Life's drums.)

Jolteon Dec 24, 2011 05:25 AM

Last sotw FORTNIGHT I did not like the choices very much, but I enjoyed almost all of the choices this week a lot! A nice contrast from last time to me!

3 Points - G.T.R. - G.U.T
1 Point - Bucky O'Hare (Arcade Game Rip) - Stage 2 - Planet Punk
1 Point - Attack Rate - Real Life
1 Point - ClaDun x2 (Game Rip) - Dance of Kalmor

I want to give points to a lot more, but the next most lenient threshold makes it like 111111111111111111111111111111111111 1 1 1 3 that should all be 3's.

tyme for obnoxyous descryptions

In approximate order from the piece of music that I enjoy the most to the piece of music that I enjoy the least

G.T.R. - G.U.T
I NOMINATED THIS ONE. THAT MEANS I AM VERY COOL. I ENJOY THIS BECAUSE nomination bias which is actually time signature shifting bias or something even though.......uh........this is basically in 4/4 the whole time INTERPRETATIONS ARE CUTE. UH..... but it is definitely not easy to count to 4 over and over again without everything exploding at many parts of this because the rhythms are so CRAZY syncopated and stuff and I like that a lot! A few months ago I started getting really into Matsuo's progjazzfusionEXPLODE side and me nominating this is a result of that! Piano synthesizer jazzy chords are cool funky wacky rhythms FUN

Bucky O'Hare (Arcade Game Rip) - Stage 2 - Planet Punk
Frequency Modulation Synthesis bias This is too cool, maybe I should listen to other music from "Bucky O'Hare (Arcade Game Rip)" and it could possibly appeal to me at a similar level.

Attack Rate - Real Life
This sounds kind of like FM synthesis bias Oh No! I also agree with Chuckster that it also sounds like Yasuhisa Watanabe bias without being by Yasuhisa Watanabe! I like Yasuhisa Watanabe which means I in turn like things that sound like Yasuhisa Watanabe as well.

ClaDun x2 (Game Rip) - Dance of Kalmor
I liked many of the chords that were on a thing. This had sounds I liked in it! It may be my favorite piece I have heard from this soundtrack and I have heard a lot more pieces of music from this soundtrack than I have any of the other soundtracks that are represented in this topic. AAAA I like that synth solo OH NO . I . Am . Moving . This . From 0 points to 1 point after re-listening to it!

The Shadow (SNES Game Rip) - Maritech Labs
I like the low pitch and portamento-y ness of a lot of the sounds. This has some kind of neat panning delay things along with the portamento ascending notes things that is very appealing sounding to me!

Terranigma (Game Rip) - Prayer
This sounds like music that would be to a Role Playing Game for the Super Nintendo. I enjoy music that sounds like it would be to a Role Playing Game for the Super Nintendo quite frequently. Especially if delay echoes are prominent and the melody makes me fall off of my chair because it is so GRIPPING. Except if that is taken literally in some interpretations it could be taken as having the opposite effect of being "gripped" by the chair no longer and then " """ " ""

Super Stick Golf original soundtrack - Cloud City
I interpreted this as sounding quite "cheesy." Often I like cheese, especially grated Parmesan cheese, spoonfuls of it. What is being talked about in the previous sentence? Oh yes, this sounds more like a type of cheese I dislike, I do not like pepper-jack cheese when you think it is not pepper-jack cheese because it is too spicy.

Jekyll and Hyde original game soundtrack - Dr. Jekyll
I believe I would have preferred this if it didn't sound like music that you would hear when you walked on the sidewalk and there was a (I thought it sounded too traditional and "boring" in MY INTERPRETATION NOT YOURS)

Basically I liked all of them a lot except for Cloud City and Dr. Jekyll which I thought were "okay"

Duck King Dec 24, 2011 10:02 AM

2 points: Bucky O'Hare (Arcade Game Rip) - Stage 2: Planet Punk
2 points: G.T.R. - G.U.T
2 points: The Shadow (SNES Game Rip) - Maritech Labs
Just missed: Real Life, Dance of Kalmor

Good week, lots of stuff to groove to. Also, I think I've nominated so much crap to hit triple digits, so this calls for something special. Or not.

I swear I will vote as soon as I can tear myself away from the holiday festivities. They will be the only points my nom will get, and I'll be damned if it goes down in history a zero-pointer!

Jolteon Dec 26, 2011 05:01 AM

I have made a nomination.

Album: Frogger's Adventures: The Rescue (PC Game Rip)
Artist: Ichiro Shimakura
Track Title: Forgotten Island Level 2
Year: 2003

Muzza Dec 26, 2011 06:28 PM

3 points: ClaDun x2 (Game Rip) - Dance of Kalmor (9 minutes)
1 point: G.T.R. - G.U.T (what is this, it is kind of brilliant; Jolteon you insane bastard)
1 point: Super Stick Golf original soundtrack - Cloud City (I really wish Drakken had gone with "Mars"..)
1 point: Terranigma (Game Rip) - Prayer (Hardly original, but damn is it pleasant. Tones of SimCity)

I quite liked this week. Like Draconis said, lots of groovin'. I think I will be listening to a constant loop of G.U.T for the rest of the day with a blank stare on my face.

Drakken Dec 26, 2011 09:35 PM

3 pts. - Cloud City
2 pts. - Dr. Jekyll
1 pt. - G.U.T.

Was tough for me to give out points this week; nothing really caught my fancy.

Ugh, I know. I didn't even realize that until after voting started somehow.

I actually had Mars first but replaced it with Cloud City. Really rethinking my track selection after noticing the stereo issue and listening more to the other songs. Cloud City is fun, but Mars (and others) are more substantial.

Oh well, it's a sure bet I'll be going back to SSG sometime down the road.

Next nomination:

Album: Virtua Fighter Remix (redbook audio/gamerip?)

1 point: G.U.T.
1 point: Maritech Labs
1 point: Real Life
Just Missed: Prayer, Dance of Kalmor, Dr. Jekyll

Monsterous week.

Love love love LOVE the Bucky o' Hare soundtrack; I've been meaning to nominate something from that for a while now. NON at his.... uh... NONiest is one of the best things.

Love Jonathan "Not Dean Evans" Dunn's The Shadow soundtrack as well, even though the SPC sets floating around the internet aren't perfect (the panning is really messed up on a lot of the tracks, many channels come out of only one speaker. Emulating the game shows that that's an error) which is why I have yet to nominate something from it. Buildings, in particular, is sublime.

But oh my god Cloud City. Thing is solid as titanium. Dude's got that oldschool Nintendo sound down bit for bit. Cannot believe how perfect this is. It makes me want to buy an iPhone. I've listened to it so much that I feel it deserves the extra point (sorry, Prayer).

TheKnightOfNee Jan 2, 2012 02:05 AM

Oh man Jolteon is finally gracing you guys with some of his writeups. The best. That one's pretty par for the course.

Nomination time here it comes choo chooo
