Well they didn't make it to the midnight launch, but the full game is out now. Beta updates itself to the full version when you start it up. I have to go out in a bit, but I did get my first gold medal :]

I HAVE PAINTED MY FIRST CAR

nice. it's amazing how a mirror tool and a few interesting shapes can make cars look so good (i made a couple in Nations before my hard drive crashed, i thought they were pretty nice). I would be extremely tempted despite the fact that i couldn't play online to get this game if i thought for a second that my old boat of a laptop would run it.

I must say the editor takes some getting used to. Too many pieces that for some random reason simply will not stick to each other, forcing you to compromise how you want to lay out this part and that part.

Still, it's really addicting once you get into it. I've created my first track.

And as you can see from the backgrounds and blocks, I am also testing out what is only admittedly, the best mod ever.

I'm afraid not. The game is fairly well optimized however and runs smooth even on my computer (XP, dual core, 8800GTS). A lot of people on /v/ are playing it on their laptop. Here's the system requirements from the website:

OS : Windows XP / Vista / 7
CPU: 1.5 Ghz
Memory: 1 Gb
Video Memory: 256 MB, Pixel Shader 2.0 / Intel HD 2000 / Nvidia ION / AMD HD 6310
HDD: 1.5 Gb

Since this thread is apparently going to stay my monologue, I might as well make use of it.

Maniapark is a fine source for TM2 car skins and track mods.

Anyone who's already tried download skins and are having trouble applying them:

car paints:
With car skins you place the entire zip file into your Maniaplanet personal folders in \Skins\Vehicles\CanyonCar\

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...FF/Carskin.png

After this they'll show up when you go select your car's paint (Main menu -> Profile -> Vehicles).

track mods:
The track mods are a bit more difficult to use. You place the zip in your personal folders in \Skins\Canyon\Mod\

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...Canyonskin.png

And after this you have to manually apply the mod to a track as you go edit it. This means custom skins (as far as I could tell) need to be applied per track, and can only be used on tracks you have downloaded on your HDD, and are editable.

When you go into the editors menu and select load a map, it'll show you the track files you have

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...GFF/Mods00.png

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...GFF/Mods01.png

Here, you need to hold down (left) CTRL and click the track name to highlight it

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...GFF/Mods02.png

Then when you click EDIT, it'll ask you to (re)select the mood/time of day for the map, and after doing this it'll let you apply different textures

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...GFF/Mods03.png

I've yet to test if tracks built with custom textures applied will show them to another player who doesn't have the skin zip saved.

If anyone wants to test it for me, here's the track I made:
http://www.gamingforce.org/staff/Qwarky/TM2/lego.rar

I rarred it up to be sure, extract the track file inside to \Maps\Downloaded\qwarky\ and it should show up in local play. If it doesn't load for some error or loads default canyon textures, download the lego mod and put the zip in \Skins\Canyon\Mod\

I finally learned how you import images as stickers. I tried it before but must have done something wrong because I couldn't get it to work.

Stickers are in the folder \Media\Painter\Stickers\ And you need to create a separate folder for each image:

http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...F/Stickers.png

You save the image as Sticker.tga as well as make a 64x64 version of it and save that as Icon.dds

After that the image will show up in the stickers menu.

EDIT:

BEHOLD, CHEN! I HAVE MADE A CAR!

Any of you guys still playing this? How's it holding up to not-having-just-been-released-this-week-itis?

map car man words telling me to do things Oct 7, 2011 01:21 PM

I'm in the middle of playing Witcher 2 right now, trying to finish it before my Dark Souls arrive, but I intend to get back to playing TM2 once I'm done with it.
