Astral Puzzle Meltdown - Let's Fix This Ship! I've been beating the bushes at Bandcamp of late, looking for new and exciting VGM, most of which is free for the sampling. This is one of the best pieces I've found so far, hugely catchy and adorably retro. If you like it, I suggest checking out the composer's other works and maybe showing some support.
Denjin K - LASER CLUSTERRRRrrrrrrr -sanodg dub remix- There are pretty long stretches of this I can't really enjoy, when there's too much distortion or too much guy shouting into an open mic. The other stuff isn't bad as far as ambient synth washes go, but it's kind of weighed down. But man, that title...not cluster or even CLUSTER but CLUSTERRRRrrrrrrr. DO-DON-PACHI DAI-FUKKATSU BLACK LABEL Original Sound Track - Vertex (Stage1) Decent shmup styling for what is, I suspect, a decent shmup. Invaders Corruption - The Soundtrack - Liquid Dance Really nice retro sound, but I wish they'd done more with it; feels like some wasted potential. Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball - Power Pro Music Stadium - Results (Lose) Why don't we get more Japanese baseball music in this contest? This is actually really good, and a lot more upbeat than you'd expect for a defeat song. I imagine that the victory song is really downbat to compensate. Option TUNING CAR BATTLE 2 Original Soundtrack - Ending Movie Shouldn't this have been last week? I mean, isn't all racing a tuning car battle? Besides, the baritone "let's go, here I am, no, out!" chorus would have added much-needed laughs to the week, Roberta Williams' Phantasmagoria (PC Game Rip) - Take a Stand (Closing Theme) Phantasmagoria was controversial for its graphic depictions of violence and rape, so what better way to end it thatn a soulful 80's-style ballad? Cheese value is at gouda, but entertainment value is flatlining. SEGA Rally 2006 Original Sound Track - Irritation Another possible entrant for last week, which is better than 90% of the actual contenders. Might have placed then. Ending Movie is pretty groovy and what the fuck is Irritation Ahahahahahaha oh god Seibert I love you so much. And then Namiki rounds out an amazing week. How amazing? So amazing that I'm not giving any points to Namiki (honestly not that big a fan of Vertex, but it's still rad because that man poops gold, I've seen it). |

I've gotta say, Astral Puzzle Meltdown - Let's Fix This Ship! lacks the melodic punch which I was anticipating. However it's still got an agreeable retro quality that exudes spacey boppin' goodness. OK while it lasts, but not something I'm too eager to revisit.

I too was expecting something a tad more, well, crazy from sanodg. see above (but this time: Namiki), though DO-DON-PACHI DAI-FUKKATSU BLACK LABEL Original Sound Track - Vertex (Stage1) is more upbeat. It features a generic but enjoyable sound. Invaders Corruption - The Soundtrack - Liquid Dance treads a delicate line between the danceable and the understated, and the end product is one which I find toe-tappingly captivating. If there were more things going on the beat may lose its hook, so I'm pleased things are kept relatively basic. 1:40 is a nice little treat. ;) Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball - Power Pro Music Stadium - Results (Lose) reminds me of a more ostentatious style of Tokimemo BGM. It lacks a definitive hook, but it's nice grab-bag of fun anyway. + Mm Option TUNING CAR BATTLE 2 Original Soundtrack - Ending Movie hits the right spot for me at the moment. A rocky fluidity creates an undeniably cool atmosphere in this one. Oh god, epic in the most awkward kind of way: Roberta Williams' Phantasmagoria (PC Game Rip) - Take a Stand (Closing Theme) why do I love 0:46 and its tortured violin so much; to me it MAKES SEGA Rally 2006 Original Sound Track - Irritation. That template is so old, I don't know how much work would be required to do that. Also, finals comin like what, so no time to recode now.

Summer break is coming up. I'm thinking about using one whole day to just give the site a much needed overhaul. I can implement 3+ tracks per week then.
For now, I suggest just uploading a placeholder track for third place (if no one wins, everyone loses). I'll fix it to include both tracks when I update the site. |
