XBox 360 Controller

It's a great controller, but, does anyone else's get filthy after using it for like 20 min?

I've only had mine for like 2-3 months and there is dirt permanently stuck in the triangle marking on the Start button. It's ridiculous.

russ Apr 13, 2006 06:57 PM

I know that after I spend time outside playing in the mud or doing mechanic work on my car, I come right inside and pick up my white xbox circle controller first thing.

In case you missed the sarcasm, that was meant to infer that some of us wash our hands when they get dirty. So perhaps from now on, you should hit the sink before picking up the controller.

There was a reason why the old nintendo controllers were grey and later consoles controllers were black. I hate this whole "white is the new black" ipod influenced shit. The 360 consoles at gamestop and walmart look like people literally have been playing in the dirt all day and then grab the controller, get excited and all sweaty, and then it makes a lovely muddy film that dries into a disgusting merky crust...ok, i'm grossing myself out.

BurningRanger Apr 13, 2006 08:06 PM

I wash my hands... this kind of stuff was never really a problem with my Dreamcast controller.

Telling him to wash his hands regularly is kind of useless when the brown stuff is dried sweat (probably from gripping the controller too long) and not actual dirt/mud. I sometimes get this problem since my hands sweat quite a bit, but it's not that bad for me. My only (obvious) suggestion is when you're holding your controller, don't grip it tightly or keep your hands in a fixed position for a long time when playing a game. As for the residue, the only thing you can do is take it out with tissue but since you said it's permanatly stuck in the start button.. (gross...=/)

Yeah, its sweat. I know, I've had the same issue with my GBA/DS in the past. Definetly not getting a white Revo....

I just got my 360 on sunday and can't say whether or not it's changed a bit in color but I usually clean my controllers once a week. This only applies to current systems hooked up to my DLP in the living room. For the most part my DC controller is still white and that's saying alot after 7 years. :p

That's because holding a Dreamcast controller is like holding a slippery ass. It never gets dirty, it'll just hurt your hands after awhile. This is pretty much true, since the dpad will deteriorate your fucking thumb after those hours of Soul Calibur.

That's why white products generally suck. They're prone to being yellowed over years even if you take care of them. My friend's japanese Saturn is yellowed and it hasn't left his console shelf. It isn't really noticable, but it still happens.

Surprised that they haven't released the 360 controller in different colors by now, really.

Despite all the harrassment towards the thread creator, I have to admit my 360 controller does the same thing. No, I don't have shit all over my hands when I play, and it has never happened to any other controller in my life, but these controllers just have an affinity for dirt. The "LT" and "RT" engraved into the triggers have the biggest problem.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Apr 15, 2006 02:19 PM

Indeed, it can be sweat mixed with dust or one of any other things around the house.

To clean it out, two things work. A toothpick, or a q-tip with rubbing alcohol on it. Both work wonders.

Kilroy Apr 16, 2006 02:25 AM

I encounter the same dried sweat encrusted X360 controllers, but as Skills says, rubbing alchohol works wonders. Sometimes I give all the joysticks in my room a good rub, just because. As I'm incabable of learning the art of relaxing, some heated Halo 2 matches often leads to very nasty controllers...

Yes they really do. I felt bad when I was playing Ridge Racer 6 (Which uses them as Acceration and brakes). I constantly felt like every minute I played the game, I was hurting my controller more and more.

My controller is still white, it hasn't been stained or anything like that. Just, stuff gets all over it. I can scratch it off if I really try... but it gets on just as fast.

I'll give the rubbing alcohol a shot.

Mephista Apr 20, 2006 09:23 AM

The controller is ok, but I personally haven't noticed it getting dirty on my friends 360.

DarkLink2135 Apr 20, 2006 04:29 PM

I like the Xbox S controller better, but this is a very close runnerup. The LED light showing what player you are is a spiffy idea too :P.

Newbie1234 Apr 20, 2006 05:48 PM

It's a solid controller aside from the crappy d-pad.

LivingDreams Apr 20, 2006 11:32 PM

I have the same problem, even tho I wash my hands a lot it doesn't realy make a difference, it's the sweat that makes it look dirty.

ClearIzzy Apr 21, 2006 12:23 AM

My controller is pretty much clean. If theres a spot of dirt or something I'll grab a wetnap or something. BAM, good as new and now it smells like a clean baby bottem.

You kidding? I've been playing Dynasty Warriors 4 over the past few days and I can safely say that the S controller is the worst controller I've ever encountered.

They improved over their gigantic original controller, but you can't hold the S controller firmly for an extended period of time without your hand hurting. After a few hours of Dynasty Warrirs 4, my hands hurt like shit. I have to hold the S controller by it's sides, and sides mostly, because there's no finger grip support to hold it properly.

The dpad on the S controller is pretty much useless for fighters and 2D games. I'd recommend buying a magic box and use a different controller, because anything's better than this crap.

I liked the S controller. You gotta remember, Elixir that it isn't microsoft's fault that your muscles atrophied to the point that it is difficult and hurts to hold a controller for an extended period of time. God Help you if you ever try to touch a guitar.

Anyways, my 360 controller doesn't get that dirty except for the right analog stick getting some funky stringy shit in the center of it. I love the 360 controller's design though, fits perfectly with my hands and is so easy to play with.

Well, I check out the controllers at Target, EB, and Gamestop, and they aren't that dirty. If anything, just the L and R triggers have dirt.

Still, I love the damn controller. It's so comfortable.

Frylock Apr 24, 2006 11:01 PM

You guys didn't take human anatomy in HS? Cause if you did, you'd know that your skin releases a shit-load of skin cell every time you touch something. Regardless of how much pressure you apply.
