Upgraded to vBulletin 3.8.6

Our previous version was 3.6.8, which is already two years old and incompatible with PHP 5.3. This upgrade rolls up several enhancements in the 3.x line over the past 2 years, including improved (?) user profiles, social groups, picture albums, built-in thread prefixes and (searchable) thread tags. Also, note that the private message dropdown to the top right has been replaced with "notifications".

Some issues still remain, such as upgrading the old thread prefixes (we'd need to create the prefix groups and convert the old prefix information to the new format). Sound off here if there's any bugs or broken templates you encounter.

I don't know if anyone has signaled it yet or if it was expected, but the dice roller in the basement seems to be broken. I've tried it twice so far and I got a message both times to the effect that:

Quote:

Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error.

Bigblah Feb 13, 2011 11:55 AM

Thanks for the report, I've fixed the bug (apparently).

The Xbox Live leaderboard is gone from the Quick Links. I know it didn't actually work properly or update but it was handy for finding people's Live tags. Is there a working version we could add?

Dopefish Feb 13, 2011 12:27 PM

Arcade's broken. :noonecares:

I like the new profiles, with the tabs and Visitor Messages and such.

i am good at jokes Feb 13, 2011 12:29 PM

Thanks for the expedient fix! ^5

I imagine you may have already noticed this, but there appears to be a slight bug with the message box when we choose to "Go Advanced" on one of our posts. What happens is that the message box gets stretched beyond the tables as the smilies' box on the right-hand side has all of the smilies ordered horizontally.

NoSpam is broken, so I disabled it. The new human verification options probably are a better replacement anyway, though.

Dice roller formatting is broken, don't have time to fix, gotta go to work. :(

Ditto on the fact that there seems to be some sort of login bug with the 15 minute delay after messing up a password. It's not 15 minutes, it appears to be indefinite. Fixed

Given how quickly two posts for a cabbage soup diet just popped up, I'm not convinced...

Paco Feb 13, 2011 04:49 PM

I only have 7 friends.

(I used to be so popular... :()

Great, now we have to manually alternate between Cheers and Ciao and we can't fuck it up either.

Cheers.

No. Hard Pass. Feb 13, 2011 06:45 PM

O GOD. DON'T FUCK IT UP.

Ciao.

Chaotic Feb 13, 2011 06:49 PM

Yeah. The Cheers/Ciao thing was pretty baller.

Cheers.

Zergrinch Feb 13, 2011 06:58 PM

Merely cosmetic, but ehh! :D

Also, would like to reiterate my suggestion for using ReCaptcha for registration. Ever since I put it on my (admittedly unused) forum, spam bots have completely stopped.

By the way, is e-mail verification on subscribed posts working for people? Seems to have broken a few weeks back.

Updated it to the latest version. It'll take a while to regenerate the leaderboard, so give it some time (it's already well on its way). Shockingly, this not-hilariously-out-of-date version acts much more sanely, and it should update more frequently without taking down the server or flooding my inbox with a wave of SQL errors.

Considered leaving this because it's hilarious, but nah shoved it below the text area.

Nerd, also don't think I didn't notice your snarky image filename because I did, also fixed.

NOT ON MY WATCH

I didn't think i would miss those words at the bottom of every post when they eventually disappeared, but when they did everything looked really weird.

CHz saves the day again! And there was much rejoicing.

That said, do the Calendar and Friends things have any practical applications at this point, or are they just more things to fiddle with when one is really, really bored?

Zergrinch Feb 13, 2011 09:47 PM

Yet more cosmetics!

Some pictures are given the class "alt 2", which has the background color #343868. This causes all transparent images to gain a solid background. It's not particularly jarring or anything, and changing it might cause some problems elsewhere. But Just thought I'd throw this out.

I noticed it in this popup, as well as user avatars on profile pages.

Dark Nation Feb 13, 2011 11:07 PM

Ahh yes, the ol' "Update, then 50 million things are broken" time of the month.

But for reals, I found a hilarious bug on the Incoming Friend Request page; Evidently if people's current names are too long then the text wraps around to under their avatar as seen below:
http://i.imgur.com/pc4pj.png

also, not sure if this is intended or not, but if I have no notifications, it reverts to the old "Private Messages" uh, message instead of showing Notifications.

It's not a bug, it's a feature

Fair enough, done.

Looking into that subscription thing, it should be fixed now. Confirm?

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Feb 16, 2011 04:09 AM

If you ban someone using the new "Delete as spam" option on a post it doesn't send a report to the infraction forum.

Edit: Why do I know you're going to test this on this post? :(

Decoy Goat Feb 16, 2011 05:26 PM

just wanted to post in the most active thread of 2011 before it hit the archives

high fives all around

value tart Feb 16, 2011 05:32 PM

God dammit, why are cheers and ciao back, I was getting sick of those.

THE POWER OF WATER Feb 17, 2011 07:11 AM

Okay, I think I've got the new thread prefix system set up and all of the old ones converted. Let me know if you find anything broken, or if there's a swath of prefixes I missed, whatever. Also (Zerg) point out any UI glitches you may notice: double prefixes, broken tables, etc. I think I've got everything nice and orderly but it took a lot of prodding.

For funsies I made a few of the general-purpose prefixes global(-ish), so now threads in any forum can be :plant:.
