Song of the Week - WEEK 234 Voting/WEEK 235 Nominating
Song of the Week. 225 Weeks and counting.
Week 235 Voting is open. Week 236 Nominating is open. Theme week nominations open for Whimsical Wonderland Week: a whimsical week with numbers like slapstick songs, tunes that don't take themselves too seriously, "silly" music, like quirky, off-kilter carnival tunes. Not sure of what this means? Some examples: Spoiler:
Also, it's time for some new theme week suggestions. We'll vote on them when we have a nice crop suggested up. Here are the ideas so far: Spoiler:

Nomination #58
Composer: Norihiro Furukawa Album: LOSTMAGIC Track Title: Run Like the Wind -feel fresh- (Windmill Plains) Track Number: 3 Year: 2006 Catalog Number: ZTTL-9001 Running like a melody repeated (ad nauseam) to the FTP. |
Akumajo Dracula Apocalypse Original Game Soundtrack - Invisible Sorrow I tend to prefer my music from this series in the rock opera vein, but this actually isn't half bad. It's got a definite Mitsuda vibe, and while it's a tad laid back for my taste there are some nice parts.
Gekkou no Carnevale Original Soundtrack ~Capriccio of the Fairytale Moon~ - Granfia Actually has a fair bit in common with the last song, but takes a lot longer to get moving--the thing's almost half over when the Melodrama Violin™ kicks in. If there was a bit less repetition at the beginning and end, I'd dig it a lot more. Junction (Genesis Game Rip) - Background 1 (Ocean) Some decent oceanic or deep-sea synth textures, but not a whole lot of meat on them bones. Magnetis Original Soundtrack - Coop Definitely some interesting electronic sounds here, which help spice up a jazzy melody that might not have been nearly as fun otherwise. Spider-Man 3 (Console Game Rip) - Daily Bugle It's the Spider-Man 3 videogame theme, only silly! Well, maybe goofy is a better descriptor, but the theme's some solid stuff. Tekken 3 Seven Remixes - Ogre (Ken Ishii Remix) The beats may be phat, but the melodies they be absent. Tomb Raider (PSX Game Rip) - Main Theme A classic, especially compared to the underperforming electronica that followed it in the series. Like the first game (and unlike its sequels), the music's emphasis is on atmosphere, contemplation, and exploration. It helps that the melody's super, too. www dot davidorr dot net - Colony Varied, as one might expect given the genre, but it never really seems to gel into a cohesive track. The Point Spread Daily Bugle - 3 pts. Main Theme - 2 pts. Coop - 1 pt. |
(3 points) Akumajo Dracula Apocalypse Original Game Soundtrack - Invisible Sorrow: Most of this soundtrack is an N64 turd, but this track (nom bias!) is the one pleasant surprise at the end. Lots of laid back guitar flair make this one a keeper.
(2 points) Tomb Raider (PSX Game Rip) - Main Theme: I was expecting orchestral bombast but instead I got some pretty rich, atmospheric instrumentals. This is the kind of enchanting melodies I would expect in RPG dungeons, so it's a welcome surprise here. (1 point) The Music of David Orr - Colony: A lot of moving parts but everything is pretty top-notch here. Bonus points for the 80s-riffic electric guitar that jumps in halfway through. Just missed: Daily Bugle. |

By my count, we have six Whimsical Wonderland Week nominations. Anyone want to pitch in any more? I don't mind rolling with a six track theme week if no one else has any ideas for nominations (we've been at it for two weeks). I'll give it an extra day and then close it up.
We have six normal nominations too. :) |
