According to Famitsu ,Capcom has announced 'God hand' for PS2.
Developed by Clover studios.

Shinji Mikami(Directing) and Atsushi Inaba (ViewtifulJoe,Okami ) is involved.

The category is indicated as 'Comical Violence Action ',game is about 50 per cent complete.

This is another amazing news for me,being big fan of Mikami.
Beats me why its PS2?

RYU Apr 12, 2006 08:36 PM

What the hell are you talking about? Okami's a PS2-exclusive, and both Viewtiful Joe games were ported. I would think that Mikami would have a strong say whether or not to port games to another console AND which of his games go to which console.

Grubdog Apr 12, 2006 11:17 PM

He said he'd cut his own head off if RE4 ever got ported to PS2, obviously he has no say in things like that after what happened there.

I thought this would be interesting until I saw the screenshots. Looks rather bland... i'll wait for gameplay vids to make up my mind fully though.

Mucknuggle Apr 12, 2006 11:27 PM

WTF is a comical violence action game? Are they incorporating slap-stick humour into this or something? Or is it comical as in "comic book", i.e. like a manga?

Dhsu Apr 13, 2006 12:22 AM

Clover is making something that's not cel-shaded? Should be interesting.

Man,you are not familiar with history,Mikami said more than that.
He criticized Kingdomhearts and said that he would never develop for ps2,as PS2 has got weak lens.Mikami himself bought 2 PS2,he was pissed and right after that there was announcement of 5 exclusives.
However, the tranfer of exclusives to PS2 wasn't his decision.

It's first time he is deveoping solely for PS2 after that statement.

Can you learn how to space after commas and periods? Your posts are pretty hard to read.

That guy comes up with odd "genre names" for his projects all the time. It wouldn't be "his" game if he didn't coin some kind of oddness.

The game looks interesting and I hope it plays well, as I look forward to most anything he works on. I'm not complaining about it being on the PS2, as, despite it's drawbacks, it's my system of choice. Depending on how the gameplay is, that opinion would more than likely change. Killer 7 was awesome on the Gamecube, but difficult and irritating to play on the PS2 port. Viewtiful Joe was fortunate enough to work on the PS2, while RE4 got a case of graphical down-syndrome.

SouthJag Apr 13, 2006 01:41 AM

After Grubdog reminded me of the Resident Evil 4 comment, I remembered Mikami made that one. I didn't know he had such strong sentiments against the PS2 though.

But then again, if he's still on board, isn't that a little hypocritical?

Hyuga Jehuty Apr 14, 2006 08:10 AM

I always thought that Mikami left Capcom after they ported RE4 to PS2.

Anyway, he needs to make money anyway, so I guess he doesn't have much choices. Maybe he still likes Capcom.

Game looks stylish and a Beat'em up.

Ramenbetsu Apr 14, 2006 12:15 PM

Still looks pretty bland in my opnion. I wont completely right it off though, not until i see an actual gameplay video.

Slayer X Apr 14, 2006 03:04 PM

it is also only 50% done, therefore the engine would still have a ways to go in rendering and what not, as well as a majority of the textures would still need to be made/completed. As far as I'm concerened, screenshots and gameplay videos prove nothing until a game is complete other then what direction a developer is trying to go with a game and to get the word out there that the product exists.

On a side note, isn't Godhand a Square character? Because I know that Square did have a franchise called Godhand back in the '90s with Godhand also being the main character. The game never reached NA, but was featured in Ehrgeiz. I'm surprised that Square hasn't called them on it, unless the rights wern't renewed or something.

So watching some of the trailers makes me think of Kung-Fu Hustle, with the looney tunes violence and mock-seriousness of the Devil May Cry environment. I'm really interested to see how it turns out, although so far I haven't seen a lot of positive feedback on the playable versions. IGN seems to think it's hit or miss, with the hits being good simply because they're so out of left field that you laugh at the absurdity of it all.

Sounds kinda like my game, actually.

Freddy Krueger Sep 12, 2006 09:12 PM

Well I'm playing it now and I gotta say while being a bizzar game it's really fun. The voices are in english with japanese subtitles. You can customize your techniques so the game doesn't get repetitive. such as what your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th attack combo would be like. Also you can set attacks for triangle and square.

Double Post:
Wow I upgraded my combo limit to 6 now instead of 4. This is really cool, seems Capcom really wanted this game to stay away from Repetition.

Manny Biggz Sep 13, 2006 12:24 AM

Well i'm just happy that they're not giving up on the beat em up genre. If this is anywhere near as good as Yakuza (which is FUCKIN AWESOME!) i'll def. give it a try!

Freddy Krueger Sep 13, 2006 12:34 AM

Combat wise I think it's better then Yakuza, they haven't shown much of the story so far.

map car man words telling me to do things Sep 16, 2006 02:55 AM

I was pretty uninterested in this until I saw the videos of it moving. Fan-fucking-tastic!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=l-FIuqNT9ew

The special attacks you can do that require extreme rapid button bashing are especially hilarious, and I love how the enemies can do the same to you. Still laughing so hard at the machinegun punch to the crotch :tpg:

I was tempted to get the japanese version (the speech is in english already), but most of the move names and descriptions would be lost to me, so when I read it should be coming out in the states next month, I figure I'll wait till then.

Freddy Krueger Sep 16, 2006 03:39 AM

Actually I beat it and I don't know any japanese, when you highlight a move to equip it shows your character performing the move on the right of the screen so you know what it does.

"AUUUUUGH"

Shenlon Sep 16, 2006 09:22 AM

oh man you don't know how hyped I saw him using drunken boxing :edgartpg:
Can't wait to get my hands on this game, looks omega fun.

SouthJag Sep 16, 2006 10:49 AM

Hahaha RAPID CROTCH PUNCH GO! That needs to be a song. :'D

On the other hand, I'm curious as to why the game's spoken dialogue would be in English for the Japanese build of the game. I wonder what made them decide to do that.

I'll definitely check this out from work and see whether or not I wanna buy it. It does look tempting though.

RacinReaver Sep 16, 2006 11:12 AM

This is the first beat-em-up game that looks pretty cool since Streets of Rage hooked me back on my Genesis. I can't wait to see what you guys that buy games new have to say about it (and I'm hoping with the PS3 coming out soon the price will drop like a rock >_>).
