Here is a NOMINATION:

Kaleb.G Aug 18, 2010 12:39 PM

What's up with the Flash Player on the Aero and Yoshi tracks?

Just choking on apostrophes again. They, along with ampersands, always give it major gas.

It's fixed now, though if you're really serious about listening the download links are always there as a backup.

Kaleb.G Aug 19, 2010 05:42 PM

Nice work. =}

Now for another nomination in a loose series of tracks found through a 7-year-old attempt at listening through all SPC sets in alphabetical order. One of these days I'll get back into that, though with greater organization.

=== Kaleb.G ===
* Album: Accele Brid (Game Rip)
* Artist: Haruhiko Kuroiwa
* Track #: 04 (of 16, on SPC Set)
* Track Title: G. Bowman Circuit
* Year: 1993
* Additional Info: Game is sometimes titled without the space as "Accelebrid".
* Source: Game profile: Accelebrid ~ SNESmusic.org
* File Location: I'll upload it tonight.

UPDATE
FYI, my nomination is uploaded.

Chuckster Aug 20, 2010 09:22 AM

Also, there are slight hiccups in the Star Fox Assault track. I uploaded it, so I don't think those are in the original file. Maybe I'm wrong.

Does this mean we should look out for a Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel nomination in June 2015?

It's a flash player problem. Probably because the rip was done at a nonstandard bitrate (those damn Nintendo rips are always guilty of that). The download link is fine and I have put up a big red signpost to it.

Elorin Aug 20, 2010 11:56 AM

Oops, just realised inconsistencies with how I tagged the title of the Sonny track. It should be "Zone Theme 2".

In any case, quick votes:

(2 points) Sonny (Game Rip) - Zone Theme 2

(2 points) Sega Rally Pc Version - Desert Replay

(1 point) Namco Video Game Graffiti Volume 9 - Rolling Thunder 2 (Jazz Mix)

(1 point) Nintendo Sound Adventures - Yoshi's Story (Breakbeat Inferno)

Was tempted to give Rolling Thunder 2 points but Yoshi's Story was hard to pass up.

Hahaha! I actually tend to jump to other sets that share the same composers as sets I like. I've already heard the Zero soundtrack since it was done by the same team as Aero 2 (which just so happens to have a track nominated this week). Aero 2 has the best music out of Aero 1, 2, and Zero, in my opinion.

SONGOFTHEWEEK.INFO PENDING EXPIRATION Sep 04, 2010

I'm not renewing that domain anymore, since the short version ("sotw.info") is way easier to type and we've been using the short version for a couple/few years now. I will still be renewing "sotw.info" yearly. If anybody is interested in taking the "songoftheweek.info" domain from me via ownership transfer, send me a PM. Otherwise, it will expire on the date listed above.

Here are my votes:
3 points - Star Fox Assault (Game Rip) - Mission 6 - Sauria
2 points - Nintendo Sound Adventures - Yoshi's Story (Breakbeat Inferno)
1 point - Aero the Acrobat 2 (SNES Game Rip) - Performer's Dungeon (Act 2)

"Sauria" caught me with my pants down and gave me a reminder I need to grab a rip of Star Fox Assault. Very, very nice.

Would have liked to give Aero a double pointer, but couldn't happen.

Best week I've heard in some time. If I had more points to spread, I would.

Aero the Acrobat 2 (SNES Game Rip) - Performer's Dungeon (Act 2) Some very nice textures, but they never really go anywhere.

Namco Video Game Graffiti Volume 9 - Rolling Thunder 2 (Jazz Mix) Whee big band jazz! I have gained a bit more appreciation for this form of late, and this is pretty good at what it does.

Nintendo Sound Adventures - Yoshi's Story (Breakbeat Inferno) The Yoshi voice samples in this are like a thousand bloody shards of glass in my eardrum, and pretty much ruin an otherwise decent song.

Outlaws (Red Book Audio) - The Shack Perhaps the weakest song in Outlaws, all Wild West atmosphere and sound effects without any kind of central thread or melody.

S.C.Out (Game Rip) - In-Game Music When something's called "In-Game Music" you know it's gonna be long and possibly C64. This actually bucks both trends, and is pretty cool for it.

Sega Rally Championship (Saturn/PC Game Rip) - Desert Replay The melody line's kind of all over the place, which is too bad since a strong melody was just what the piece needed.

Sonny (Game Rip) - Zone Theme 2 Definitely sounds like a zone of some sort. It's really just a sci-fi version of the Outlaws track, with the same weaknesses.

Star Fox Assault (Game Rip) - Mission 6 - Sauria Finally, a Star Fox song that isn't held back by poor-ass synths. It's held back by weak orchestration instead. But hey, improvement is improvement.

The Point Spread
Rolling Thunder 2 - 3 pts.
In-Game Music - 2 pts.
Sauria - 1 pt.

I was all set to ask why it was necessary to ruin my precious Yoshi's Story soundtrack, but this is just a decent original groove track with voice clips inexplicably layered on top of it, so there really isn't any room for ruination per se.

Naofumi Hataya being Naofumi Hataya is alright with me any day of the week. Oh yeah 1:00-1:14 you are definitely getting a point mister.

Speaking of being what I'm talking about, Rolling Thunder 2 (Jazz Mix) is definitely what I'm talking about. Negishi, you did good, son (also Saso for providing the A+ original soundtrack).

Thumbs up to the atmospheric tracks of the week, by the way, both Zone Theme 2 and The Shack are great for incredibly different reasons.

Sorry, haven't had the time to listen to the tracks as I've been super busy these last couple of days. If it's still open tonight I may may be able to listen and vote, but I'm not asking for an extension, so don't keep it open on my account.

Most of these songs sounded like they were composed by Westerners (at least to me)! Overall an OK week. Huge props to the nominator of "Rolling Thunder" though, it's a great find.

Chuckster Aug 23, 2010 09:30 AM

-2 weeks late-

This week is fantastic. Thankfully, my point spread would not have altered the results whatsoever, except probably make the race for top position less nail-biting:
Spoiler:
2 points: The Shack
2 points: Mission 6 - Sauria
2 points: Rolling Thunder 2 (Jazz Mix)
Just Missed: Desert Replay, In-Game Music, Yoshi's Story (Breakbeat Inferno)

The Rolling Thunder 2 arrange was especially good not because of the top quality big band performance, but because it spends a good amount of time on View of Dynamism, which is the Stage 5 theme and a potential nom of mine. Too bad I can't nominate it now.

Also I should be happy that Sauria came in 3rd, but it only got points from 4 people how does that even happen

lol 1 point, that's 1 point more than I was expecting. Also I have never played Outlaws
