Woke up this morning, saw the trailer:

Looks good so far, I'm hoping there will be some big "WTF?" moments. Didn't like not seeing Akira Yamaoka's name under music (unless I missed it) :( but hopefully the music won't lose a step in being darkly atmospheric and tension-filled.

Really can't wait to see some of the creature designs.

I hope they get the number right if they keep it like this and not "Silent Hill: Words," seeing as how this would only be the fifth numbered entry in the series, homecoming originally being 5 notwithstanding.

I mean, yes, it's the 8th game. But Origins is 0 officially, and Shattered Memories shouldn't really have a number, being a remake of the first.

That said holy shit creepy children are back.

dagget Jun 17, 2010 01:02 PM

I think 8 is just a place holder. Also I'm lol'in at all the trolls on forums everywhere calling Silent Hill an Alan Wake rip-off.

Just wish there were more to it than the trailer. I needs mah input.

Erf new video game company, no Akira Yamaoka... this does not look good...

Ok on the other hand I did like that Trailer. ok i see that it's a WIP but it has some potential. That music track was good too. It's help to know that Daniel Licht compose on the Dexter soundtrack which I like a lot.

I guess we will wait and see...

Shiny McShine Jun 19, 2010 11:52 AM

Not sure who did the music for most of the Silent Hill games, but hopefully they kept that person on. The music made up for like 50% of the entire experience. Whoever it was definitely knew their genre.

That said, I have a question: You mean to tell me all these Silent Hill games that have these wacky titles like "Homecoming" and such, that have been coming out since "The Room", were actually chronological installments in the series? Fuck, I have a lot of catching up to do...

dagget Jun 19, 2010 03:38 PM

Not chronological. 8 just means it is the 8th Silent Hill Game to be developed

1-4 are the first 4 games then Homecoming was 5, 0rigins was the 6th, Shattered Memories 7th. 0rigins would be the first and Shattered Memories is just a remake of Silent Hill 1, if it were in chrono-order. Dunno where 2 and Homecoming would chime in at.

And no, I didn't see Akira Yamaoka's name listed. I hope he decides to just barge in and do the music himself. But I'll give this new guy a chance since the music in the trailer actually sounded pretty decent.

Shiny McShine Jun 19, 2010 03:43 PM

Right, well, I realize that the games themselves aren't tied together chronologically, but there are always those subtle hints that kind of back-reference the previous titles. My whole point was that I didn't realize the subtitled games in the series had anything to do with any of that. Spin-offs if you will.

So would I also be safe in assuming that this game will have a subtitle as well?

wvlfpvp Jun 19, 2010 05:24 PM

I swear that each entry (except for 0rigins and Shattered Memories) happens in release order, with subtle references to events in previous games. At the very least, 2 DEFINITELY happens before 4, and I swear it happens before 3 as well.

Akira Yamaoka is not doing the music. They said this in at the press conference, I just don't remember the composer's name.

Also 1-4 were related storywise. I don't think there's been that many references to previous stories in later games. Unless you're counting fanservice cameos of like pyramid head, but that's kinda desperate.

It's Dan Licht. He composed music for Dexter, Hellraiser and Children of the Corn. He's approved. =]

wvlfpvp Jun 20, 2010 06:44 PM

Yeah no. He's not approved until the soundtrack is released, thank you very much. I forgot that no good composer for anything has ever put out an album that's crap.

Except for Yamaoka.

Is... is he about to rape that poor man's head?

You don't know. You can never know. It is the new direction in Silent Hill horror.

Silent Hill: Downpour E3 2011 trailer

New trailer. Looks good.

Philia Jun 3, 2011 06:47 PM

Okay that trailer looks good. Definitely appealed me much more than that... Shattered Memories... :shudders: I sure do NOT like the combat or watching SD fumble in that game.

But as long as you have something to hold them off or outright kill them, I'm interested.

I like the intro's text giving me that Law & Order vibe lol, and the scenery in the forest hitting that Alan Wake vibe too. Good to know there's still a lady cop somewhere. ;)

dagget Jun 3, 2011 06:59 PM

According to a PSM article I read in the new issue, they want to make the game more "realistic" in the sense that you will no longer have an "imaginary bottomless bag that you can fit all your weapons, items and health drinks inside of". The weapons will also break with use, so I'm not sure how I'll like that. But it is Silent Hill so I'm giving it a shot.

dagget Feb 17, 2012 05:47 PM

Le bump. Since this game will be out in a few weeks, the main theme to Downpour has been released.

Downpour

I think Licht captured the essence of Silent Hill (well so far by that track). I'm hoping the game is worth it, especially since it was pushed back a good 6 months at least from the original release date of last Oct.

Jessykins Feb 17, 2012 06:17 PM

I certainly like Licht more than what Yamaoka was putting out since like, 3. To me, he got too into making "music" and less about making something that is atmospheric and creepy.

I was ready to dismiss this game outright after Homecoming, but the more I see and hear about it the more I really feel like these guys know what they're doing.

dagget Mar 12, 2012 02:00 PM

Scores starting to roll in. Gameinformer gave it a 7. Gamespot gave it a 7.5. There have been 7s and 8s from different review sites as well. Then we get to IGN. 4.5. They called the game BAD. Yes, that's his opinion and I respect that, but I just find it hard to believe that it's that bad if other places are giving it decent reviews. The reviewer also goes to mention this in his review:

Quote:

Downpour takes many of the devices familiar to fans of the franchise like Akira Yamaoka's score

I'll have my own opinion on it tomorrow. I don't think it is going to be that fucking terrible. Duke Nukem Forever got completely horrible reviews also, but I found it pretty damn enjoyable. But that was just me.

Yes it was.

I suppose I'll have to give this a shot at some point, but I'm not too impressed with what I'm hearing.

Philia Mar 13, 2012 05:36 PM

Ditto Jessy, I'm contemplating on getting it rented. Its been a while since I've played a survivor horror game. I skipped Shattered Memories so I'll check this out at least.

Contracts Jul 8, 2012 02:11 PM

I haven't touched this game yet but boredom and nostalgia for classic Silent Hill will probably lead me to picking this up soon. However, regarding the reviews, a lot of people knocked Homecoming, but I thought that game was dope. Combat was on and off, but the game as a whole and the world was dope.

I hope Downpour atleast has a compelling story like Homecoming did, even if the gameplay stumbles here and there.
