Whoops, I fell off the nom list fast. Should've nominated this last week.
BUT HERE IT IS NOW Album: Starmine Artist: Harmony and Lovely -contemporary chamber mix- Track title: Tomosuke Track number: 12 Disc number: 2 Cataloguewayhe number: LC-1799~800 Year: 2009 Source: LC-1799~800 | starmine - VGMdb Additional info: There's a sweet remix of Mind Mapping on this album too, but seeing as Mind Mapping placed a couple weeks ago, I figured it would be a bad idea to nominate that. |
I nominate:
Album: Rudra no Hihou original sound version Artist: Ryuji Sasai Disc Number: 1 of 1 Track Number: 57 of 58 Track Title: Beyond the Rising Moon Catalog Number: PSCN-5050 Year: 1996 Source: PSCN-5050 | Rudra no Hihou original sound version - VGMdb |
Hi, do you like it so far? (does the text need some corrections?)
YouTube - GamingforceSotw's Channel |
Not a native speaker myself but the following should be changed i think:
Quote:
a obscure -> an obscure Quote:
Quote:
more -> most Song of the week -> Song of the Week --- Also the last sentence maybe should be replaced by something else. As it is now it sort of tries to explain the voting process which is beside the point and it also gets inaccurate since you did not mention that one can only give a maximum of three points to one track and that the points have to be distributed between at least three nominations. Maybe something like the following would work better: "The Song of the Week is then determined via voting." Which is short but to the point. |
Some quick voting this week before I am off for the next couple days.
(3 points) Creatures (PSX Game Rip) - Island: Heady stuff for a PSX game. Nice Spanish Flamenco flair. (1 point) Nintendo Sound Selection vol.3 Luigi (B-Side Music) - The Prince's Adventure (1 point) Blast Corps (Game Rip) - Replay (1 point) Cloud OST - First Flight |
Blast Corps (Game Rip) - Replay N64 synth normally sounds like ass, so it's refreshing that this music plays to the system's strengths rather than its weaknesses. The rhythm in this piece is all-around excellent, though the anemic melody leaves something to be desired.
Cloud OST - First Flight Part new age, part classical symphony, all fun. Vincent Diamante really excels at writing music like this (check Flower for further confirmation), and the game's main theme is woven in very subtle variations throughout. Creatures (PSX Game Rip) - Island Pure, straightforward Latin music. Good for what it is, but it takes something exceptional to really get me excited about Latin pieces. Gran Turismo Sound Collection ~MUSIC~ Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Original Game Soundtrack - Current of the times Cool jazz fusion. As with the previous song, there has to be something exceptional about songs like this to hook me, since I'm not that enthusiastic about the genre in general, and the synth/harmonica combo in display here just isn't enough. Konami Famicom Super Medley - Famicom Original Remix Medley Aside from a bit of reverb and a few minor SFX layered over top, I don't honestly detect a whole lot of "remixing" going on here. The source songs are great, sure, but when thrown together with such minor enhancements I have to wonder why the originals weren't just nominated. Nintendo Sound Selection vol.3 Luigi (B-Side Music) - The Prince's Adventure A nice, pure chiptune and a good antidote to the song above. Senko no Ronde DUO Sound Track - Birds Eye (Mika Drop 1) I have to admit, I had a hard time telling the difference between the fusion in display here and in the GT song above, it all kind of ran together. I guess that's what I mean about not being enthusiastic about the genre. Spindizzy Worlds (SNES Game Rip) - Level Music 7 I was hoping for something along the lines of Dynamite Headdy from this, but instead it's the most dour and muddy SNES song I've heard in ages. Sorry, nominator, I just can't see the merit here. Last week went from strength to strength; I guess we had to pay for it sometime. The Point Spread First Flight - 3 pts. Replay - 2 pts. The Prince's Adventure - 1 pt. Nom soon. |
(3 points) Creatures (PSX Game Rip) - Island
(2 points) Blast Corps (Game Rip) - Replay (1 point) Senko no Ronde DUO Sound Track - Birds Eye (Mika Drop 1) Nomination: Album: Infiltrator Artist: Frank Klepacki Track Title: Infiltrator Track Number: 2 Year: 2009 Source: Infiltrator - VGMdb |
2 points: Nintendo Sound Selection vol.3 Luigi (B-Side Music) - The Prince's Adventure
2 points: Blast Corps (Game Rip) - Replay 2 points: Creatures (PSX Game Rip) - Island Below average week; these three were really the only ones that interested me. (The Spindizzy track is depressing and frightening at the same time. :( And a bemused what was uttered after listening to that medley thing) |
Reasonably good week.

2 Pts.} Senko no Ronde DUO Sound Track - Birds Eye (Mika Drop 1)
- My favorite of this week. I love the synthy and jazzy style. The other Yasuhisa Watanabe-isms are a presence I enjoy. The delay echo guitar is really cool to listen to, and I think blends in really well. The subtle organ-like sound in the background also is a really nice touch in my opinion. My favorite section is about halfway through the loop where the percussion halts, and a multiple complex chords on a neat synth sound begin along with the nice melodic synth. 2 Pts.} Blast Corps (Game Rip) - Replay - The chord progression appealed to me. I like the slower polysynth that was used to denote the progression and how that went along with the the rhythm of the short high synth in the background. I think it was cool how the high synth fit really well with both the percussion and the chord progression in funky way with accents placed in a way that was enjoyable to listen to. 2 Pts.} Gran Turismo Sound Collection ~MUSIC~ Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Original Game Soundtrack - Current of the times - I enjoyed the jazzy feel. To me the percussion was really enjoyable with the choice of snare drum and cymbal accent placement. I also really liked the portamento saw lead synth sound when that came in. Overall the instrumentation was interesting, and was cool to listen to in this fusion. The melody was enjoyable to me, as was as the progression. Nomination: Album/Game Title: Puchi Carat Artist(s): Yasuhisa Watanabe Disc Number: 1 of 1 Track Number: 21 Track Title: Bad Moon (Sapphire) Catalog Number: ZTTL-0023 Year: 1997 Source(s): ZTTL-0023 | Puchi Carat ORIGINAL SOUND TRACKS - VGMdb |
2 points: The Prince’s Adventure
2 points: Current of the Times 1 point: First Flight 1 point: Birds Eye (Mika Drop 1) Just Missed: Replay, Level Music 7, Island Hey this makes perfect sense: Famicom Original Remix Medley Another fantastic week! First flight is sickeningly good. I love the motive at 1:13, instantly recognizing it from the previous Cloud tune; it must be a recurring theme in the soundtrack. I’m definitely gonna check the rest of the soundtrack out. Current of the Times was a clear winner with those tasty jazz chords, that synth lead, and that harmonica part that gave me heavy Border Down vibes. RACING GAME MUSIC, too. Totaka is well known for his hidden song that he likes to place in most of his works, too bad he isn't as well known for HIS ABSOLUTE GENIUS when it comes to music. The Prince's Adventure is one of the best chiptunes I've heard in a long time. Can anyone here recognize many of the sources used in the Famicom Original Remix Medley? All I recognized were the Castlevania tunes (and woooooo Crisis Force at 4:36), everything else was a mystery to me. Also what the hell was that |
Hey guys! =D
Here is a nomination!
Here are some points! 3 points: Nintendo Sound Selection vol.3 Luigi (B-Side Music) - The Prince's Adventure 1 point: Cloud OST - First Flight 1 point: Gran Turismo Sound Collection ~MUSIC~ Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Original Game Soundtrack - Current of the times 1 point: Senko no Ronde DUO Sound Track - Birds Eye (Mika Drop 1) Re. a YouTube channel: seems like a cool idea, but I can't produce videos, so someone else would have to manage that. Also, next week we'll start up nominations for the next theme week. I believe there was a tie for second place in that theme poll, so I think I'll just choose one of them (probably whichever one I gave more points to). |

Hey guys, I'm back. Had a lot of other shit going on but it's mostly passed. Now I can focus on things I enjoy again!
Blast Corps - I found this a little mediocre. Certainly not bad but it didn't do that much to capture my attention. I became distracted by the sound of an off-balance washer in the basement, and if this song were better, I never would've noticed the thumping through my headphones. Cloud OST - There's an odd juxtaposition between the fact that this song doesn't actually do that much and the fact that this seems to be what makes it so enjoyable. Fluffy Sweet was a nomination that I took to immediately and this one seems to be following in its footsteps. Creatures - I definitely like Latin music, but, eh, this is Latin Lite. It lacks the intensity of stronger Latin tunes. It's rather laconic, and though the accordion section was appreciable, it was far too short-lived. I want more energy from music like this. Gran Turismo Sound Collection - The jazz elements were so-so for me, as they were rather subdued, even for jazz. This is a racing game, c'mon! Fortunately, the overlaid harmonica balanced the sound a little more, in that relaxing, "Quiero Voar" sort of way. It doesn't feel like a racing tune to me at all, though. Konami Famicon Super Medley - This was novel. Did I detect the "room theme" from Goonies II right after the Castlevania opening? What I didn't like was the lack of bridges between sections; it easily could've flowed with more ease instead of the way it was presented in some areas. Gaps between tempo and samples were a bit jarring. Nintendo Sound Selection Vol.3 Luigi - Honestly, this felt more like Kirby music. Senko no Ronde DUO Sound Track - This one stands out this week for being both eclectic and trancey and also for being quite different than the other nominations. I probably shouldn't be surprised that this song is good since the rest of the Senko no Ronde music is pretty strong. This is Yack, right? Spindizzy Worlds - Gonna echo orion's sentiments that this was just murky and dismal. I came away from this with a thorough feeling that I'd rather not hear it again. Get to the Point(s)! 3 Points: Cloud OST - First Flight 2 Points: Senko no Ronde DUO Sound Track - Birds Eye (Mika Drop 1) 1 Point: Gran Turismo Sound Collection ~MUSIC~ Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Original Game Soundtrack - Current of the times Okay week. Nothing super special, though the three above were saved for future listening. Nomination!? Album: Sengoku Basara 2 Original Soundtrack Composers: CHAMY. Super quick votes of the really last minute nature thanks to a bout of forgetfulness:
(3 points) Senko no Ronde DUO Sound Track - Birds Eye (Mika Drop 1) (2 points) Cloud OST - First Flight (1 point) Nintendo Sound Selection vol.3 Luigi (B-Side Music) - The Prince's Adventure Just missed: Blast Corps And here's a new nomination: * Album Title: The Witcher: Music Inspired By The Game * Artist: Believe * Track Title: The Witcher Theme * Source: http://vgmdb.net/album/15251 ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wit...hanced_Edition * File Location: Nominations folder (upcoming) * Disc Number: 1 (of 1) * Track Number: 12 * Catalogue Number: NA * Year: 2008 This was released for an extra audio CD that came with the enhanced edition of the game in 2008 (apart from the soundtrack). This is the credits theme of the game but has been shortened. Would have liked if it added an extra 7 to 8 seconds more from the original credits theme to give it better closure. Um, come to think of it, would it be possible to nominate an edited version of the original 5min credits theme that includes that additional 7 to 8 seconds missing from the 2min short version? The short version essentially lops off the second half of the original credits theme (which kind of drags in the middle...). |
woohoo, still open... Jeez I downloaded the stuff intending to listen to it over the weekend just to notice I forgot 2 tracks.
1 Point - Cloud OST - First Flight 2 Points - Creatures (PSX Game Rip) - Island 2 Points - Gran Turismo Sound Collection ~MUSIC~ Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Original Game Soundtrack - Current of the times 1 Point - Nintendo Sound Selection vol.3 Luigi (B-Side Music) - The Prince's Adventure |
One more nomination!
