Long Distance Bills Too High?

Top this.

Apr. 10 - Think your phone bill is high? A Malaysian man says he nearly fainted when he got $218 trillion phone bill.

IdleChill Apr 10, 2006 11:56 PM

Haha, damn...that's some bill.

nazpyro Apr 11, 2006 02:40 AM

That bill is huger than some bears.

OnlyJedi Apr 11, 2006 11:14 AM

Yikes! If every family in the US racked up a $1 million phone bill, it still wouldn't equal this. I guess he must have let E.T. phone home.

Question is, how would someone rack up such a huge phone bill? Did he place a 12 hour international call to everyone in the word or something? Chances are it's just a huge accounting error. And why force someone to pay $218 trillion? That's more than even the assets of the Earth.

Well how else are they gonna raise money? If he even paid 1% of that, he'd make the phone company richer.

The problem is no single entity could afford to pay even 1% of that, it'd be nearly equal to the United State's federal budget.
It makes that national debt look like a tiny IOU:)

What I want to know is how they came up with such a number. It said that the phone service company should have disconnected service in January. But that is all I can see to work with.

Obviously, it did not cost them even the slightest fraction of that number to provide the services for him.

I also like how the article said the man can't wait to face the company in court.

I couldn't walk in with a straight face. Anything they'd ask me, I'd burst out laughing.

Neogin Apr 11, 2006 04:42 PM

Aww, you beat me to it, :(

And, good god, 218 Trillion? For a phone call!? I wonder how the trial is going to go..

Laughing. Lots of it. Phone company officials coming back to the office, "Sorry guys, but we can't all retire 10 times over."

ArrowHead Apr 12, 2006 05:51 AM

Naturally, if the phone company's PR dept. is anything like they are here in America, the guy is going to get a big apology.

If you read the news article in that link, you'd of been able to see the segment where it describes how he "thought" he had disconnected the service, but it was still in working condition. Silently building up charges.

OnlyJedi Apr 12, 2006 04:01 PM

Yeah, but $218 trillion in silent charges? I could understand if it was $1000, or $10,000 but $218 trillion? Something tells me that the problem wasn't that he thought he'd disconnected the service.

Greykin Apr 12, 2006 04:09 PM

Is this for real? >_>

DragoonKain Apr 12, 2006 05:16 PM

The whole world's GDP combined wouldn't equal that much money.

Lythial Apr 14, 2006 10:51 PM

O.O no one could talk up a bill that large.
He *nearly* fainted? I would have had a heart-attack!
Where did the phone company come up with the number? Seriously it was 3 months not...300 years?

Rachelle Apr 15, 2006 03:29 AM

I wonder how did they put that amount on the bill? did it say XXX trillion or did they use all those 0000 at the back?? and how can it even be possible to get such a huge amount in 3months? tat's crazy!

halori Apr 15, 2006 07:16 AM
