Game Informer reveals the first information on Epic Mickey October 15, 2009 by The News Team Filed Under: Wii
As Game Informer has been hyping for weeks now, their latest issue features a huge spread on Epic Mickey. You get your first look at in-game screens and brand-new art, as well as Mickey's redesign, and a host of other characters. Trust me, you're going to want to run out and pick up this issue for yourself, just to get a look at all the visuals!
Obviously, I cannot show you the screens or art on here, but thanks to Hero of Legend, I can give you the first details!
- Mickey's appearance is much, much closer to his original debut style
- Disney was the one to approach Spector
- Spector originally was against the idea of creating a Mickey game, because he said that he didn't do kids games
- Spector changed his mind when Disney said that they were looking for someone to 'reinvigorate' Mickey
- Disney had to get back the rights to Oswald before he could be used in this game
- the sorcerer Yensid creates a pen-and-paper world for his forgotten creations, which is where Oswald lives
- this world is similar to Walt Disney World
- Mickey enters this world through a magic mirror, and accidentally spills paint and paint thinner on the drawing of this world. Mickey escapes before Yensid finds out.
- The spill that Mickey caused ends up turning the drawing into a twisted version of what was originally created.
- the Phantom Blot ends up taking over this world
- many years later, after Mickey becomes successful, he re-enters the mirror and sees what has happened to the world. The Phantom Blot drags Mickey into the world, which is where your adventure begins
- use the Wiimote to paint in buildings, platforms and more
- swipe away enemies with the Wiimote when using paint thinner
- create/destroy the world as you go along
- Junction Point took hundreds of photos while at Disney World in order to capture the essence of the park, and translate ideas into the game
- play the game as you like, either destroying everything in sight, or taking the hero's route. It's completely up to you, and you can mix-and-match play styles
- Gremlin Village is reminiscent of 'It's a Small World'
- Mickey's appearance and stance will change based on the way you play the game
- trade some items for health
- Pete returns, and at one point attacks you with a huge zepplin
- Donald Duck animatronic pieces are scattered throughout one portion of the game. Collect them to put him back together.
- Spector wants this game to scare kids, in some ways
- the game will also have funny parts
- Spector calls the game world's visuals 'the bastard child of Tim Burton and Disney'
- elements of platforming, exploration and role-playing
- go into the inner-workings of some levels and rides
- visit the gears and mechanics underneath the 'It's a Small World' ride, complete with an eerie re-imagining of the music
- enter movie screens to move from in-game island to island
- movie screen transitions put you into a 2d world, where you'll revisit some of Mickey's old cartoons
- find sketches, and bring them to life with your paintbrush
- sketches can be activated to give you new powers (clock sketch to slow time, TV sketch to distract enemies, and more)
- collect 'E-Tickets' to enter rides, and use as a form of currency to buy power-ups
- Jim Dooley 'Pushing Daises' is doing the soundtrack
Warren Spector on Mickey
Spoiler:
"I want him to be a hero...and I want to remind him that it's okay to behave badly."
Warren on Oswald
"All he really wants is to be loved by Walt Disney. In the end, the Blot won the war and pushed Oswald into hiding and exile."
Warren on the Gremlins
"The Gremlins are the only forces of good in the world that can continue to fight against the Blot.
Warren on the Bunny Kids
"These are going to be the breakout stars of the game. Mark my words."
Warren on the Buddies (Donald, Goofy, ect.) "The Classic Disney Characters"
"Oswald is trying to recreate Mickey's life, so he has the Mad Doctor build these animatronic versions of his buddies."
Warren on the Mad Doctor
"He's from an early 30's cartoon that is pretty swell."
Warren on the Phantom Blot
"The Phantom Blot has been a consistent villain since 1939. He's just been lame."
Warren on the Blotlings
"They're the popcorn unit. You need something that the player can just swat away. They're supposed to be funny, silly and stupid."
Warren on the Beetleworx
"In order to deal with these guys, you have to erase their painted bits to get to the vulnerable inert spots underneath."
He also said quote "Disney scared the pants off me when I was a little kid. Disney needs to scare kids" and "We're kind of looking at this as the bast@rds love child of Tim Burton & Walt Disney"
__________________________________________________ __________________________ Here are some facts about Mickey's image
One: Mickey Mouse has been a favorite to everyone since the early days of Disney along with the other favorite Disney characters, but Mickey was the one who was "sort of" at the top of entertainment during his time.
Two: Mickey's previous games "Magical Mirror" and "Hide & Sneak" had been given poor reviews do to the lack of good ideas for both games.
Three: Mickey has been but on the Disney Company's back burner and has been reduced to T-shrits and other personal stuff.
Four: In the previous years, PIXAR Entertainment was the new version of Mickey and that the mouse himself has his popularity reduced to doing a daytime kids educational show, but not doing a similar "Mouseworks Works" series since it ended back in 2002.
Five: This game 'some what" explains the most obvious facts of how some the Disney stuff and movies like "Hercules" and others have been forgotten over the last decade, due to newer stuff like "Pirates of the Caribbean" being more of hit than others.
Six: If all goes well, this might be the mouse's key for redemption not only in the Entertainment area, but the gaming area as well.
What do you guys think?:eye:
PS: I've been hearing rumors about Disney doing a possible animated short and comic books in order to publicize the game even more.

This description above says absolutely NOTHING about what this game is.
PS: Don't compare Mickey with Sonic...ever.

Is thread about a game or is it some kind of weird new style of fanfiction?
No. Hard Pass.

I'm disappointed that the second half of that post was barely comprehensible English. I don't think that's the OP's fault, it looks like he was copying from another source, but since this is a game made by a native English speaker I would've expected a better rundown.
Even tantalizing details about what clothing designer made the FFXIII cast's underwear tends to be more comprehensible than "Two: Mickey has been "slamed" do to the previous games "Magical Mirror" and "Hide & Sneak" not doing what people expected them to be."

No, it's about the game, but I added the obvious facts to make this not boring

OK, maybe my writing is little confusing, what I could do to fix it?

I think that's all Sonic-Dude's work, and personally, I like it.
The bizarre English, different font colour and random use of underline and bold has shades of the Time-Cube in it. It suggests - like that site - a feverish, hurried excitement behind every sentence. It's always lovely to see a display of such enthusiasm, even about a game.

I was trying to get my points out there about why this game sounds so incredible.
Also thanks for the commit.
No. Hard Pass.

I'm assuming English is your second language, Sonic. Where you from originally?

I'm sorry Sonic. I thought I was bagging on a dude who speaks English natively but isn't very good at writing. I don't mean to bag on somebody who is learning English, I mean, I don't know any other languages so who am I to insult somebody who's learning one?
As for making your points more clear, it just felt like you were talking without having any context, so that was really confusing to me. It might also be because I'm not a gamer so I didn't know that those two were games; I thought that they might be fake-games referenced in the Epic Mickey game that provide part of the backstory.
Also: if you are exuberantly enthused about this game, rock on. It does look sweet as hell.

Thanks dude. I'm full English and that I usually just type down what's already in my head. Yet the games I mentioned where the ones done by the "Resident Evil" company
PS: I like the game's artwork because it reminds me of Tim Burton.

I love the childlike enthusiasm in the opening post, it's refreshing to see a post so devoid of cynicism here from time to time.
What sort of game is it Sonic-Dude? I'm assuming it's a platform game because Disney games pretty much always are but if the Resident Evil people are involved, a Mickey survival horror game would be beyond awesome.

I remember seeing the article in Game Informer about the game, and it looked pretty neat. There's supposed to be two paths to playing the game you can take, either destroying everything in the world as an evil Mickey or saving all of the other characters and becoming a good Mickey. Depending on the choices you make, your character model (and I think a bit of how the world looks) will transform based on your actions.
I think they also talked about having to solve puzzles and defeating bosses/enemies in different ways depending on which path you're going with, so that could make it a bit more interesting than just another generic platform game.

Ya, I've heard about the possibly about the game going on mutible platforms, but I thought the Warren only wanted to do this game only for the Wii

Epic Mickey
Disney's upcoming reimagining of its iconic Mouse will make its E3 debut in LA this year, and we're looking forward to getting our hands on it to see just how it handles -- since we're already sold on the style of its art and environments, which twist classic Disney characters and theme park locales into a kind of dark, inky steampunk setting called the Cartoon Wasteland. It's rumored that this project, which was first revealed last fall, has been undergoing some pretty significant upgrades in both style and scope since we had our first look in October. Will the result be an even grittier game, or could the Big D have decided to reign in some of Epic Mickey's more extreme ideas? We'll find out in just a few weeks.
Until the official trailer comes out, I made this, enjoy.
Fuck, it's actually comeing to e3? Didn't expect that.

There are rumors that they've really rehauled the game after fans voiced out disappointment at the game not looking remotely close to its concept art. Here's hoping that's true.

I read your post it's complete package for a Mickey scoop. There is supposed to be two paths to playing the game you can take, either destroying everything in the world as an evil Mickey or saving all of the other characters and becoming a good Mickey. It's all are depends on our mind set. That why it's making this game is very much interesting.

The game plays like "Spider-Man: Webs of Shadows". The whole deal with choosing which sides was the best idea ever created.

"two paths in the story"
Man, this game is getting ridiculous, if not already.
