WEEK 01 (Nominations) - SotW Wiki Found some "thread update" emails from 2004 tucked away in my mailbox during a recent cleaning session. Thought someone might get a kick out of it. |
Here's a nomination for Piano Week. I still ask myself why I'm nominating this, but it's really not that bad a track if you can go beyond the nature of the game where it came from.
* Album Title: Hello Kitty Online (PC Game Rip) * Artist: Greg Chun * Track Title: TokyoChatRoom_v1 * Source: Dream Cortex - Baby iPhone Apps, iPhone Mom Apps, Hello Kitty Games and other Digital Entertainments 3D Hello Kitty (see 28 Nov 2008 post for indication that Greg Chun was the composer) * File Location: Nominations folder * Disc Number: 1 (of 1) * Track Number: NA * Catalogue Number: NA * Year: 2009 |
3 points - THE ACES HIGH: RAIDEN RARE TRACKS - Stage10 BGM (Original BGM 03)
I remember hearing this in a contest here at GFF previously. Good stuff. 2 points - Plants vs. Zombies (Game Rip) - Zombies on Your Lawn Like Portal's "Still Alive", this works better in the context of the game. I recall hearing "Zombies..." in a promo video for the game. I still think it's catchy, even if it is short and silly. 1 point - Bakumatsu Roman The Second Act Gekka no Kenshi ~Flowers Blooming on the Moon, Flowers Scattering on the Wind~ - First Movement 'Passion' (Destiny) Gets a point for having the longest damn album name ever. It's also an OK track. Additional Spam: Additional Spam: Piano week nom: === Kaleb.G === * Album: SHADOW HEARTS II Original Soundtracks * Artist: Yasunori Mitsuda * Disc #: 2 * Track #: 15 * Track Title: Inugami Village * Catalogue Number: KDSD-00030~1 * Year: 2004 * Additional Info: This track is sometimes known as "Village of the Dog God". * Source: VGMdb, #gamemp3s, and the usual * File Location: nom folder soon |

I'm finally back and in a state fit to vote and threadmanage...whew.
Bakumatsu Roman The Second Act Gekka no Kenshi ~Flowers Blooming on the Moon, Flowers Scattering on the Wind~ - First Movement 'Passion' (Destiny) Really cute waltz-style song with a nice flow and melody. Big Bang Mini OST - Relax Not relaxing so much as it is vaguely quirky. It has promise, but sadly never really goes anywhere. Master of Monsters - Purple Time Very regal-sounding without being boring, if lacking a bit in development. MELTY BLOOD Act Cadenza Ver.B BGM Collection - GCV2007 -Another Episode- (Neco Chaos Stage) This sounds like it was recorded off a drive-thru speaker; if it's an intentional effect it's damn annoying, and if unintentional it exaggerates the song's weakness. Even with perfect sound it's still bouncy yet disposable. Plants vs. Zombies (Game Rip) - Zombies on Your Lawn I got a big laugh out of this one--from the bouncy lead vocal to the zombies' corny interjections and the overall quirky feel. There's a music video out there for people who feel like tracking it down, as well as a Japanese version for closet weeaboos. THE ACES HIGH: RAIDEN RARE TRACKS - Stage10 BGM (Original BGM 03) I always hope for something a cut above the usual shmup sound when it comes to music about flying (which can be really uplifting if you let it). Sadly, this is a very competent but samey take on shmupmusic. The Best of Babylon 5 - Bonus Theme Apparently this was the only official B5 game ever, and although the music apparently wasn't done by Chris Franke it has the same overall vibe. It eventually builds up to something decently entertaining. Toki: Going Ape Spit (Genesis Game Rip) - BGM 2 (Underwater) Not exactly as apeshit as the title would have you believe, but rather easy listening jungle music. The Point Spread Zombies on Your Lawn - 3 pts. Bakumatsu Really Long Title - 2 pts. Bonus Theme - 1 pt. I will edit in some noms soon, but since my usual collection of music is on another computer they may change a bit over the next day or so. |
Decent Week

Quick votes and quick comments:
(2 points) The Best of Babylon 5 - Bonus Theme I have a soft spot for tunes that have an epic vibe and throw in electronica for good measure. (2 points) Big Bang Mini OST - Relax Nice meld of the quirky first half and the more upbeat second half. (1 point) Plants vs. Zombies (Game Rip) - Zombies on Your Lawn It's hard not to love zany lyrics and zombie gibberish packaged in a catchy tune. (1 point) THE ACES HIGH - RAIDEN RARE TRACKS - Stage10 BGM (Original BGM 03) Quite certain I've heard this somewhere. Nice up tempo piece. Ran out of points for Master of Monsters. Really like its old school charm. |

This week is in Star of Jump.
1 Point - Bakumatsu Roman The Second Act Gekka no Kenshi ~Flowers Blooming on the Moon, Flowers Scattering on the Wind~ - First Movement 'Passion' (Destiny): jump jump, a bit higher please, that's a long way to the moon 1 Point - Big Bang Mini OST - Relax: jump jumpy jump 1 Point - Master of Monsters - Purple Time: 8/10 jump rating, oh colored time? 1 Point - THE ACES HIGH: RAIDEN RARE TRACKS - Stage10 BGM (Original BGM 03): jump nom nom 1 Point - The Best of Babylon 5 - Bonus Theme: -1/10, no jump could be detected 1 Jump - Toki: Going Ape Spit (Genesis Game Rip) - BGM 2 (Underwater): swing swing Do you have enough idiotic nominations? ONLY if you're missing, I'd like to put the following in: Year: 2008 zts website <zts> - [n/a] retake Link: zts website I'd regard it as an original composition, but I've seen it played in a promo anime video, but it's not a real video, just some kind of put-together pictures, so I'm not sure about this. On the website there is an description saying something about "BGM", but I could not make head nor tail of the rest (even) with Google transl8er. |

3 pts. - Purple Time - The Master of Monsters soundtrack is quality throughout. This track really caught my ear the first time I booted the game up and heard its music.
2 pts. - Zombies On Your Lawn - Girls singing was off-putting at first, but this is kind of catchy. 1 pt. - Stage10 BGM (Original BGM 03) - Solid if standard shmup fare. Pretty sure I've heard this before; was this song in BSC or something? Dolphins - Bonus Theme The Melty Blood song had potential based on the style and that oh so sweet keys sound, but it didn't really go anywhere. If you still need noms for piano week, here's one that's solely piano: Album: Chaos Legion Drama Digest Composer: Hideyuki Fukasawa Performer: Masato Koda Track Title: Track 2 Track #: 2 Catalog #: CPDA-1021 Source: VGMDB Comments: It's a piano arrangement of "now I see (Theme music of Siela)" from the OST. |
2 points: Zombies on Your Lawn
2 points: Purple Time 1 point: GCV2007 -Another Episode- (Neco Chaos Stage) 1 point: Bonus Theme Just Missed: Relax What: Relax Not gonna lie, I really enjoyed Relax's lethargy and lack of everything. Regular nom coming up soon, and quite possibly a piano nom as well if I can find an MP3 I lost EDIT: Whoops, there's already 8 piano tunes nominated. Ah well. |
2 points: Big Bang Mini OST - Relax
2 points: Toki: Going Ape Spit (Genesis Game Rip) - BGM 2 (Underwater) 1 point: Plants vs. Zombies (Game Rip) - Zombies on Your Lawn 1 point: Master of Monsters - Purple Time I didn't care much for this week at all, and I doubt I'm going to revisit any of these tracks. Then again I'm the dude who nominated "Relax" so I'm not in much of a position to judge. |
Quote:
That's an official promo video for a doujin Evangelion comic, and that track was composed for the video. I guess the rules don't technically disallow this, since a trailer for a manga isn't film, anime, or TV, and we've allowed an original composition inspired by a manga before (Week 146: Schell Bullet ~Thanaphs68~ - Riot Bluster). Is everyone okay with this? We do have a couple extra piano noms if necessary. Also we only have seven normal noms in the queue, including five from people who had a track this week, so I was thinking about running the theme week next week. Doing that would require resolving this quickly, though! |
haha, don't ask, it's takes way too long. I said ONLY if there is not enough. You can take the one from greatless (ah Drakken has one too and solely piano at that) which makes it 8. I'm more interested in checking out new stuff anyway.
|
So we're going with the theme week for Week 205?
|
Is there still room for a piano nom? If there is, I'll try to dig one up tonight when I get home. For now, let me slide these votes just under the deadline:
