Greenzap?

Waaaay back before the site crash (about a year ago) there was a thread created about a new money transfer service that was supposed to competition with Paypal. Part of the incentive to sign up for this service was that they would offer free money for pre-registering. A lot of people were suspicious about the legitimacy of this new company since the company claimed that they were be open and up and running for the summer of 05… well that never happened.

However I noticed that I had a bunch of email in my spam account so I took a look to see if anything was important was in it before I deleted them. To my surprise there was an email regarding GreenZap. It was a confirmation letter saying click on this link to verify your password and activate your account. So I do what they say and after a couple of attempts I remember my password and log in. To my surprise there is money in the account…

Sooo have any of the other people here heard anything about this service? They want me to verify my bank account and as of yet I am not to keen on doing that. Is there anyone still here who signed up for this back in 04/05?

GreenZap

Discuss, GFF, about this new (and so far to me unproven) paypal-esk money service.

No, this is the first I have heard of it. Unfortunetly, I don't trust too much that requires confirming of something that could be stolen. But then again, the risk is there as soon as you register anything online.

It may have some bonuses however. I suggest you try it and let us know if it is safe. ;)

I remember signing up, but I don't recall any e-mails asking me to activate my account.

If it's a scam sstealing money from your bank account, is it such a big deal? Call your bank up and they'll probably replace it sooner or later. In fact I've been told that most banks don't even bother prosecuting anyone if it's under a certain amount of money, since it costs more to try to put the thief in jail than it does to simply refund you and change your account around.

You know, banks don't really enjoy replacing money that was stolen from your account due to scams like this. Credit card companies are more on about this sort of thing than banks are.

I have a credit union that has 0% fraud liablity. I'm not worried about getting my money stolen because I haven't given this company any information about my bank account.

I'm thinking I might just spend the free money in the account and see what happens from there. I won't be using it for any purchases with my own money... not at least until this company can prove to me they are safe.

I don't know if they still offer sign up money or not though.

It sounds highly suspect to me. Worst case is that sure, you got free money, but maybe you're required make a minimum number of transactions or something or else your balance deducts? If no personal information was given at all, then there's no harm I can think of.

Yeah, I vaguely remember this site. I signed up, but never went beyond step 1...and glad I didn't.

I love this "webcash" thing.

Heeeey~ I was the man that made the original thread, maybe it's still in the archives somewhere. Anywhoo: I have been following up with the updates on my :supposed: $80 webcash.

It came out that they had partnered up with some web-stores but the catch is that I can't actually use my webcash as real cash, but the webcash goes TOWARDS the purchase of any item, OR is used as a discount (5-10%).

Yeah I noticed :(

I'd call it a major bait and switch scheme.
