Breath of Fire Special Box, comparison to game rips / previous OSTs
I wanted to just discuss the differences between the Breath of Fire Special Box OST and the game rips / previous OSTs.
I've only begun to compare, but so far I've listened to BoF I in comparison to the SPC set. The sound quality in the OST seems slighty better than the SPC set played back at "like the SNES" setting, though not quite as good as the "High Quality" setting. One great thing is that every track on the OST consists of two loops, so you won't find any overly short tracks here. Also, I quickly went through all of the tracks, and it seems that the only ones missing from the OST are a few short jingles (specifically 01, 40, s01, s04 from the SPC set). Also, to answer a question orion_mk3 had, there are no arranged tracks here. Anybody else do any research? |
I would say that the sound is much clearer on the tracks in the Special Box Set. One of my favourite songs in Breath of Fire is "Time of Reunion" from BOF V and on the Special Box the sound rings much clearer than the other versions of that song I've heard.

BOF3 ones are rubbish
I am afraid to anyone with a decent understanding of game music should know that the BOF3 new releases (not the ones already released, they have just been slightly updated here), are crap. The reverb is wrong, the bass is wrong, the quality on some of the tracks amazes me.
Whoever did the remastering job on the new BOF3 releases needs help. Seriously I have a very good ear and I listen to BOF3 for hours before I made my final decision. Bottom line, they ruined the new releases of BOF3. The remixes that they used are awful such as ODORO..they must have been on drugs. The idea of a game soundtrack is to stay true to the original sound and add clarity, not put it through a remixer or move instrument levels, reverb and bass. Sorry but I will do their job for them when I record the lot digitally using adobe audition, optical cables and Playstation 2 Optical out, as I did with the metal gear solid 2 and 2 substance music, my server is here >>> http://www.rpgamers.info/showthread....5699#post35699 Chow. |
