While updating my library and adding tunes to my ipod; I've noticed some songs that skip. When I say skip, I don't mean ESP skipping, I mean like skip the track as a whole. I'm kind of at a loss at what the problem could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You mean the iTunes say that the track cannot be located? If that's the case, then you must've accidentally moved or deleted the original file. Else, I might not know. I've never experienced any other problem besides what I've stated.

No, the file(s) are in my iTunes Library, it's when they are put on my Ipod that they decide to skip.

I'm not sure you've experienced what I stated, but when that happens, the song are still in your iTunes library. The only difference is that you have relocated the original file.

Can you still play the song on your iTunes? Do iTunes tell you anything about the song that they skipped? Are they even in MP3 (i.e. iPod compatible format)?

Yeah, that experience has happened before but it's easily fixed. Yeah, he song(s) play fine of iTunes as well when on iTunes when my iPod is hooked up to it. Yeah, all the songs I convert to AAC, so it's all compatible.

I don't have a iPod or anything like that but I should ask. Does the iPod have a filename limitation? I hear some mp3 players skip tracks that contain long filenames (50 characters or more.) Like I said, I don't know much about iPods but maybe shortening long filenames might do the trick.

I had this problem. First random songs started to skip entirely then the harddrive went bad completly. LISTEN VERY CLOSELY: For a clicking noise in your iPod, take out your headphones put it to your ear...if you hear *Click*...*Click* the iPod's harddrive is fucking up and searching for something or trying to play a song it can't load) If I were you, A friend saved his iPod by formatting it and then redoing his library in iTunes, making sure his library was in order and such and then resynching his iPod. He said it didn't do that anymore, I on the other hand lost my iPod for not paying closer attention.

iPods do have a built in diagnostic program that can help identify any problems that it may be experiencing. The means to get to it differ between models, but generally follow the same rule: Perform a soft reset by holding the center and menu button, then when the iPod resets and the apple logo appears, hold down the center button and the back (leftside) button to get into the diagnostics menu. Run the hard drive tests and see what the results are, as this does sound like a problem with the drive. The rest of the tests can check the battery, logic board, and all other features of they ever start to act up.

By the by, what model of iPod do you have?

60 GB iPod Video. Also, in regards to the diagnostics tests. I run just the auto-test right?

Ok, I ran the SDRAM diagnostic test, and all I'm seeing is:

"Please Wait...

RUN: BL on
PASS: BL blink
FAIL: BL off

Reset to continue."

Any idea what that means?

Hn, did it say specifically PASS or FAIL? The test should tell you either SDRAM ok or SDRAM fail.

Right now the test you ought to run is for the HDD since it seems to be the source of your problems. In the main menu, go to IO and select the HDscans and HDRW tests. Each will take a couple of minutes and should tell you rather plainly if it passed or failed. If it does fail, it means you might need a new hard drive.

Ok. It passed. Could it be the individual file(s) that have an error? Because I tried 2 different versions of the same file, one of them worked and one of them didn't.
