VVVVVV for Vendetta
VVVVVV, the latest game by Terry Cavanagh (Don't Look Back, Judith, Pathways) was released yesterday. Check this shit out, yo.
It's an open world platformer: explore a dimension, find your crewmates, and don't run into the spikes that some fucker left lying around everywhere for no reason. The core mechanic is that you can't jump, but instead you can flip gravity back and forth so you start falling in the other direction. Not an original idea by a longshot, but it explores the heck out of it with a bunch of interesting and challenging room designs. http://thelettervsixtim.es/ The website has a demo available online (Flash) and for download for Mac/Windows (Flash packaged as an executable). The demo contains two of the game's eight areas, but it doesn't have the overworld. In the full version, you can play the areas in basically whatever order you want; there aren't any gates like ammo doors blocking portions of the map, but there are a few sequenced areas you don't have any control over. The full version is $15 (USD). If you're a filthy clockwatcher, I finished the main game to full completion in a shade under two hours, with about 550 deaths or so. There are a few bonus features, like time trials, but nothing really major. It was a pretty damn enjoyable two hours, though, with a lot of difficult challenges that never really get unfair (save for a few rooms, you'll know them when you see them). Just give the demo a shot, it won't take too much of your time. Here's what chat said about the demo last night: Quote:

So the music is awesome. So I buy it. Being the epic faggot I am, I am curious regarding FLACs. So I email the guy. He's like "YEAH SURE I GOT SOME FLACS JUST GIVE ME AN FTP ACCOUNT TO UPLOAD TO". What. Really? AWESOME. So I do. SO HE DOES. BECAUSE HE IS AMAZING. So I donated again. |
I've seen mention of this a few places and it definitely looks worth checking out, so I might (if I find time) get around to downloading this and giving it a go (and then probably buying it).

Cosign. This shit is..RAD. I'm smiling as I play. The score, his little expressions! It's making my face melt.
|
I've seen footage of this in Kolba's journal (I think) and it made me want to play Jet Set Willy, which I did for about an hour before almost smashing my laptop through a window in frustration.

Listening to this I feel that I would be supporting

I watched that video and my head fucking exploded. It hurts just thinking about the reversals and puzzle stuff.
So bought. |
Here are some of the Little Things in the game that brought a http://quiteajolt.com/gff/vvvvvvsmile.png to my face:

Whoa. We have new spoilers? :psyduck: Mind blown twice.

I'm pretty sure that, if I bought this game, I'll die 39073047070730274074074 times.
but I don't care. |

What the fuck, CHz. in before he changes it to [tailssucks] or something E: oh apparently its been around forever well why the fuck doesn't anybody use it then faggot CHz |
So I just played the demo and died about 200 times. At least a quarter of those deaths were most likely on the I'm Sorry and Please Forgive Me! rooms.
The soundtrack from what I heard is really cool. I don't usually listen to music while I'm just sitting on the computer, but I could see myself listening to this. For those who bought the game, is there the option to use a gamepad, or is it keyboard only? I'll probably buy it regardless, but this is something I'd really like to play with a controller. |
This game is basically porn for pixel junkies.
And that its a really good thing. Acer, what exactly do you have against indie games you bastard ? |

Has everyone done Doing Things The Hard Way ? That took me about 300 deaths. Quote:
Potential for anything is the best vgm song in years. |
OK, about I'm Sorry and Please Forgive Me:
What? I didn't die on that. Then I proceeded to die like nobody's business on A Difficult Chord, so. |

My point was the music in the trailer reminded me of a THE SCENE intro which I found amusing. http://www.thegond.com/rp/thatsthejoke.jpg |
*hacks roms with scene intros, distributes them to Acer*
|
I don't know why people hate those. So jammin'.
Just in case Mo0 still doesn't get it. You'll see this stuff in rom intros, key generators, and of course the wonderful fantastic demoscene. |
