MicroSD (sdhc compatible) to Memory Stick Pro Duo adapter?
I've been reading mixed reviews on these, mostly positive ratings, but I wanted to see if anyone here has had experience with these. I have a phat PSP-1000 and I'm looking to upgrade my memory stick to 16GB so I can fit more stuff on it.
Now the 16GB Memory Stick Pro Duo is around 60 bucks, but I've also looked into getting a MicroSDHC to MS Pro Duo adapter and noticed that the good ones have dual microsdhc support. The adapter I'm looking at is around 5-10 bucks, and a 16gb microsdhc is around 45 bucks so it's around a 5 dollar difference. Also with the adapter, I could have the option to spend another 45 bucks down the road for another 16gb stick and upgrade it to 32gb. Currently a 32gb pro duo is around 200 bucks, so I'd be saving money there. I'm looking at going down the adapter + microsdhc route, but has anyone here done this and were there any problems? How well does it work? |
My girlfriend has used one. More accurately, she used two because the first one started acting up after a few months. Other than that, it's been OK. I think she's had the second one nearly a year now. Just make sure to back your saves up regularly, because there are no guarantees.
When I say that first one started acting up, what I mean is it completely fucked up the contents of her micro SD. The warning signs were there, mind you. It started occasionally showing the wrong icon for PSP content in the XMB. It was a couple of days after that when the card got seriously b0rked. Don't know whether to blame the adapter or the MicroSD, but that was a genuine Sandisk MicroSD, so I blame the adapter. Back your saves up on a regular basis and keep your a copy of your ISO and homebrew files on your PC. That way even if it does end up going kaput, you lose nothing irreplaceable. Bear in mind technology probably has marched on a bit since her first adapter, so things might be better now. |
mine worked in a similar fashion to soluzars... which i believe was due to the microsd sliding out during info transfer. basically it got erased all the time because it thought i unplugged 'during transfer'
