Multitasking Skillz
So I was trying to read some legal mumbo jumbo for my new job and listen to an NPR podcast at the same time, and realized I could only really take in one at a time, not both.
I'm sure there's some people out there who could do it, though. What kind of multitasking accomplishments do you guys have under your belts? But if you say texting and driving I'm going to kick you in the dick/cunt. |

At this very moment I'm eating and browsing the forums.
Pretty irresponsible too. |
Since I play piano and pretty much learn how to do different task for each hand, I have not much difficulties in doing multitask jobs.
The easiest one is watching TV shows while typing at the PC at the same time. Harder ones, for example, is doing homework, reading the learning materials, explaining a completely different lesson to my irritating sister, and listening to my mom preaching at the same time. |
I'm pretty horrible at multi-tasking in that I can barely manage to chew gum and breathe at the same time, let alone walk.
At one of my old jobs, the secretary there used to cover for everyone. I was always amazed at how should could manage to answer e-mails while talking to customers on the phone, all while receiving instructions on where to direct who's calls. And that's just what she does on her lunch break. |
For the sake of efficiency and completeness, I prefer to complete one task at a time. With my present job, I am often faced with multiple concurrent deadlines, so I am forced into a position where multitasking is the only way to meet the majority of my deadlines. To track different tasks, I use audio and visual cues to set reference points in time. Once the sequences of cues are set in the correct order, I switch between them as priorities and deadlines change.

Studies show multitaskers suck at multitasking.
This fills me with great happiness as I prefer a single-mindedness to work towards a goal, instead of balancing several other things on my plate at the same time. |
I'm absolutely terrible with multitasking. If anyone approaches me to talk while I'm working/playing video games/writing/playing piano I have to stop or everything they say will be in my memory but not actually computed and made sense of sometimes.
I liked to think once I could multitask at things, but when I was working at a restaurant for a while I figured out that things always went to hell when I tried to do multiple things at once. The minute I started doing things one at a time, my work started getting a lot better. Some people have said they can write things while watching something else/talking to someone else, but does anyone find that actually helps them? Just curious. |
I am currently browsing here, watching tv and my Xbox is on the other tv, I'm spider farming in Too Human, which you can pretty much do one handed. I'm also eating a sandwich while I put down the controller and wait for the loot to fly out of the room.
A long while ago, I was driving a mate home and he suggested that changing gear, turning a corner, smoking a cigarette and talking on the phone all at once was probably doing one too many things at once. I can multitask pretty well I reckon. |
Here's a test. What was on the TV?
|
Animal Park. Before that it was the Channel 4 lunchtime news, followed by the Carry On film about Dick Turpin,Carry on Dick probably, I was in the toilet when it started.

Well I'll be damned.
