DO YOU KNOW YOUR MOVIES: Return of the Wolf-Guy

Hey folks,

Got bored in class so decided to rip some screens from some films on my laptop and realized it's not THAT hard to do this without a graphics program or DVDs, so I'll start downloading to get some new rounds...

Anyway, the theme for this week is THE BACKS OF PEOPLE'S HEADS:

For those uninitiated, you look at the screenshots above and guess as to what the films are. I've tried to keep it somewhat general, so that you won't have to guess obscure as hell movies from 20 years ago. I used to accept PMs and then score people, but for right now let's keep it casual.

Simply answer in SPOILER TEXT what you think they are and I'll check in after a few days to a week with the answers. If you need clues I can give some, but these should be pretty straightforward. Have fun! :tpg:

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Nov 19, 2009 11:57 PM

Spoiler:
#8 is definitely "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard." It's hard to mistake Jeremy Piven's sideburns and David Koechner's bald head.

The Plane Is A Tiger Nov 20, 2009 12:41 AM

Spoiler:
#1 is 9.
#3 is Toy Story. I'd assume it was a trap if #1 wasn't so obvious too.
#4 is Dawn of the Dead, possibly. I don't remember there being that many black people in the remake, so I'll guess that it's the 70's original.
#9 could be the theater scene at the beginning of Up. Basing this entirely on those heads looking CG.

I'm very curious about #10, since googling that subtitle only turned up two German sex sites.

EDIT: Funny, I didn't know #8, but that guy's sideburns made me think of Entourage. Even without knowing the movie or remembering his name Jeremy Piven's sideburns were still unmistakable.

Dopefish Nov 20, 2009 12:41 AM

Spoiler:
3. Toy Story. Buzz Lightyear discovers the truth of his purpose.
7. Star Trek. Chekov is seen briefing the ship as they're heading to "Wulcan".

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Nov 20, 2009 12:46 AM

Perhaps you meant to identify #7, Dope, seeing as I already nailed #8.

Talbain Nov 20, 2009 12:49 AM

Yeah sorry about the numbers... I don't have anything beyond paint on this laptop.

Try to not look at the spoilers though! Guess everything. ;)

And LOL on the German. Might try that some more in the future, but it was the only rip I could find...

Temari Nov 20, 2009 12:58 AM

Spoiler:
I think #5 is Inglorious Bastards... the movie theater scene. The only other ones I recognize are #1 (9) and #3 (Toy Story).

Quite right. Can't imagine how I screwed that up.

Grail Nov 20, 2009 10:50 AM

Spoiler:
I believe number 4 would be Knowing, and while I have not -seen- number 10, and the subtitles possibly are misleading, I think that screen cap belongs to Gamer with Gerard Butler.

Grundlefield Earth Nov 20, 2009 06:35 PM

#10 has to be what grail said because it has Dexter in it =p

Talbain Nov 20, 2009 08:43 PM

I'd like to say that so far the guesses for 4 are a bit off. It's more contemporary and popular than you may first think, and the actual thing on the TV may not be all that truthful...

BlindMonk Nov 20, 2009 09:42 PM

Spoiler:
#4, Children of Men?

Talbain Nov 21, 2009 12:33 AM

Nope. Blindmonk, there's a reason that there are black people watching the screen. Where in the world would that be the case?

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Nov 21, 2009 12:52 AM

Spoiler:
Could #4 be "Blood Diamonds?"

Talbain Nov 21, 2009 01:00 AM

Correct geographically, but I would be looking at more contemporary work. It's perhaps a bit TOO contemporary. A mistake I will not repeat as if something isn't on video, you likely haven't seen it yet.

For 2 I would think the actors would be more recognizable. It's a comedy.

6 is science fiction, and that landscape is not in our solar system.

coeccias Nov 21, 2009 01:45 AM

Spoiler:
#2 is Beerfest.

Kyndig Nov 21, 2009 11:03 AM

Spoiler:
#4 is perhaps District 9. This is based on your hints rather than recognition of the pic.

Timberwolf8889 Nov 21, 2009 12:08 PM

I don't think I've picked up on any ones that other people haven't already said but I really want to know what 6 is because it looks pretty sweet for some reason.

BlindMonk Nov 21, 2009 02:19 PM

Spoiler:
#5 possibly Sin City or The Spirit?
#6 possibly Lost In Space, the remake? It looks really familiar, what with the kid...

Talbain Nov 22, 2009 07:52 AM

6 is probably the toughest as it again is a bit TOO contemporary. It is also not a classic, which is what I usually use. I will make sure that there is a good mix of recognizable movies. This was a low-grossing sci-fi movie that was released in the last six months, so yeah, not a lot of you have probably seen it. ;)

(Hint: The boy grows up to be a superb character actor who is sent on a mission to that discovered landscape...)

What is weird is that I lost a file as well in there... I'll have to find a new use for it, even though it was an awesome movie with a good shot of a screen...

Everything except for 6 has been guessed correctly.

Timberwolf8889 Nov 22, 2009 10:07 AM

Spoiler:
The only low budget sci-fi movie I can think of that's come out recently is Moon, but I don't remember any flashback sequences/earth sequences. I'm surprised I haven't seen this, I'm a huge sci-fi geek.

Talbain Nov 22, 2009 12:08 PM

Grossing, not budget. I'm not even sure it was released wide in the US, but I do remember seeing people doing press for it, and I'm in China. So there must have been some push for it.

Moon was good, would have been cool to get a shot of the AI talking to the execs, but I thought it might be obscure.

Kyndig Nov 22, 2009 07:17 PM

Spoiler:
6 is Pandorum. Took me a bit since is was a pretty blah film. Though I did have a pretty funny dream after seeing it.

Talbain Nov 23, 2009 06:30 AM

OK folks! They've all been guessed correctly...

Spoiler:
1. 9
2. Beerfest
3. Toy Story
4. District 9
5. Inglorious Basterds
6. Pandorum
7. Star Trek
8. The Goods
9. Up
10. Gamer

Guess I'll just have to think of some harder ones...
