vbulletin

Hey guys, is it safe to use a cracked version of vbulletin?

Grawl Apr 9, 2006 11:58 AM

As long as they removed the checks, yes.

GrimReaper Apr 9, 2006 12:21 PM

What do you mean by removing the checks? How can you tell?

UltimaIchijouji Apr 9, 2006 12:31 PM

If you have a nulled version then sure. If you use just any version of vBulletin and you don't have a license, you better believe that those vBulletin guys are going to come down on you with cease and desist orders. They put a cease and desist order on me, and I had a license at the time.

GrimReaper Apr 9, 2006 01:17 PM

I got it from here:

Looks good?

Snowknight Apr 9, 2006 01:36 PM

Considering that it doesn't say anything about removing checks, perhaps.
The vBulletin police are out there...

GrimReaper Apr 9, 2006 03:10 PM

I'll just stick with phpbb. Not gonna take the risk.

Arainach Apr 9, 2006 04:27 PM

vBulletin guys are good. If you have a legit license and it expires, they'll notice. If you have an illegit license and don't remove every single reference that it's vBulletin, they'll find it in Google rather quickly. I'd just stick with a heavily modded phpBB. While nothing will quite match the raw power of the vBulletin Admin CP, phpBB can be a quite powerful forum when configured properly.

OnlyJedi Apr 9, 2006 04:28 PM

Same here. There are many bulletin boards out there, and most of them are free. phpBB is one good example, and you can find forums in many (free) Content Management Systems. It really isn't worth the effort to crack vBulletin and hope you don't get caught.

Not to mention, from the looks of it, phpBB3 beta is due to hit any day (week/month/year) soon, finally putting it back as a respectable BB system.

Loathor__Healer Apr 20, 2006 10:10 PM

Yea, Lol I used a Hacked verison of Vbulletin, hence the reason I own it now. Becuase they found out and said that If I didnt buy their product they were gunna press Charges. I would rather be legit then non, Also PHPBB Is Never Respectable, It has TONS of Crashes and Ive never got it to work like I wanted it too. :/

Risk?

I've been reported to VBB many times for running an illegal version of VBB by some weird web-hosting-forum where people seem to enjoy that.

First they mail you about it, and ask you to:
a) remove it
b) buy it

If you don't reply to that mail, they'll contact your hosting company.

Since I can barely contact the company, I doubt VBB can =p

Also, I never got a mail to begin with.

You obviously suck at the internet, then. Also, what's your problem with the English language? I'm lucky I can barely tell what your problem is.

First off, I'm talking about phpBB3 as being respectable. While it won't be still as good as vBulletin and IPB, for a free BB system, it will be excellent.

As previously said, then you must just suck at the Internet. I've been running a phpBB install for just over a year now (Server's on a LAN, not the full Internet, but it still takes a load of about 60 regular users). Used it 100% as a Testbed instead of a Production-style machine - I've probably installed more than 150 mods at one time or another, I've upgraded from 2.0.12 through 2.0.20, manually edited various files to see how they responded, etc. and I have NEVER had phpBB crash except when it was my fault (such as adding custom code and not closing a bracket).

Roph Apr 21, 2006 12:41 PM

Uh, SMF?

El Ray Fernando Apr 21, 2006 01:02 PM

SMF is great, but I still tend to use phpBB because of the shear number of modfications that are out there. (When I'm not using IPB or VB)

Arainach Apr 21, 2006 01:22 PM

I prefer vBulletin and phpBB myself. IPB is great, but I haven't used it enough to be comfortable with it yet (specifically, I've never Admined it). SMF I just plain don't like the feel of. I'm sure it can be great, but I genuinely dislike it personally.

LivingDreams May 10, 2006 10:03 PM

SMF is just shit even with all the mods and hacks for it. With an illegal version of VBulletin you might get an e-mail when they find out you dont have a licence, like some one mentioned it earlyer they ask you to remove it or to buy a licence. I havn't heared anything about any one getting a lawsuit cause they had an unlicenced version of it.
