Forza Loadingsport 3 (+ Media Sharing)

So Forza Motorsport 3 has hit here in the UK (officially now too) and lands stateside on Tuesday I believe. Who's grabbing this?

Also, Skills suggested a media sharing thread since the game includes a pretty awesome decal editor and even the ability to export HD clips from replays (though the options are a bit limited on that aspect). To start things off, here's the Layton Mobile Mark II and Mark II-b that have already appeared in my gurnal (click for big):

And here's my latest creation, the Tommi Evo VI:

I'm almost temped enough to get this just to bring the Gutsman's Assmobile into the next generation of racing games.

Almost.

I'll be there day one, next week. Not gonna fuck with livery editor that much though.

OmagnusPrime Oct 23, 2009 04:12 PM

A very quick livery I threw together to show off a vinyl design (the plane) that I created sort of for Skills's benefit:

I really love Forza 2, although having come slightly late to the circlebox party, I've not even finished it yet. As such, I'd like to hold off on buying the game until the price has dropped, and/or I actually want to play it. Thing is, there's a limited edition, and game companies have this nasty habit of putting good stuff in those you can't get otherwise. Amazon lists the following among the features/benefits of the LE pack.

# Access to VIP program
# 5 Custom Cars
# Classic Car Pack

So... does anyone know what those amount to, especially the first one? Is it stuff I can do without, stuff I can get in other ways, or stuff that makes the LE a must-have? They also list a 2GB USB stick, which makes me wonder... what for? What exactly can you do with a USB stick in conjunction with the game?

Last but not least, how much more WIN than Forza 2 is it?

OmagnusPrime Oct 24, 2009 10:17 AM

From the official blurb that was on the store I bought me copy from:

Quote:

Forza Motorsport VIP Membership* and Exclusive Car Pack*: Want to be a top painter, tuner, driver or just more active in the community? VIP membership is the way to get yourself noticed. Includes special treatment within the online Auction House, Community Storefront and on the Forzamotorsport.net forums. Also includes 5 of the hottest cars from the roster of Forza Motorsport 3, available only through your VIP membership.
I think the memory stick is just there because it's cool, though you might be able to copy photos and videos created to memory stick (not really sure). The stick is cool looking though, and the keyring is really nice (I'm actually using it now as my keyring).

As for the game, well I'd been playing Forza 2 recently and I can tell you that this is an improvement in pretty much about every respect. It's still feels like a Forza racing game, so if the racing style/sim nature of 2 put you off then possibly not one to bother with, but I think it's fucking ace. So yeah, lots more WIN than Forza 2.

And to finish things off, here's some more designs I've made, including the Layton Mark IV, which I think may be my favourite Layton Mobile to date (click to make big on the smaller pics):

Cheers Zip. And yes, you are correct, you can't import images, you have to create everything from primitives and a random set of basic shapes, so I constructed Layton myself.

The Layton Mobile's are being produced in limited runs. There were 3 Mark IIs, there was one Mark III sold, and fingers crossed the Mark IV has been sold whilst I've been away from the game. If you're interested I can make an auction for a Mark IV with a buy now price of 30k CR and let you know when it's there so you can grab it.

That makes it very impressive. I can't honestly say I'd want to drive a car with Prof. Layton on it, I don't like the games that much. Even so, that you managed to make him look just right... is incredible. I assumed there was a way to import image files somehow.

Cheers dude, appreciated. And yeah, it's quite satisfying being able to recreate stuff.

Anyways, so last night I ended up making the Autobot and Decepticon logos (which are selling very well it seems), and I made these this morning:

How is the live scene? Is it gonna be too late to play after a month? or is it really active?

Krelian Oct 25, 2009 12:16 PM

A buddy of mine has been playing Forza 2 almost daily since it came out, so I don't think this is in any danger of dying anytime soon.

Awesome, I'll take you up on that sometime.

I'm in the middle of throwing together something a little less puerile at the moment. Might be done by tomorrow.

Yeah, I was playing Forza 2 just before 3 hit and was incredibly surprised with how active everything was. Usually with games that old the community had dried up, but Forza is one of those rare games (a bit like CoD4 or Halo 3) that has retained an active community for years. Given the community focus in Forza 3 I imagine that will very much be the case with the new game.

I made a couple more liveries last night (click for bigger versions), starting with a racing Audi for my own use:

http://www.opimage.co.uk/u/OmagnusPr...acing%20R8.jpg

And the Layton Mark V (Tritoch suggested that the Mark V be something fast without being concerned about cornering, so a Corvette it was):

Will be interesting to see what you come up with your attempt Krel, do post pics.

looks nice!

Cant wait for my copy!! i have some awesome ideas in da head.

OmagnusPrime Oct 26, 2009 05:39 PM

Some more livery work from me (as ever, click for bigger versions).

First up, a replica of a Peugeot UK rally livery I came across online:

http://www.opimage.co.uk/u/OmagnusPr...ugeot%20UK.jpg

These two are just some racing liveries I came up with for a couple of my cars:

OmagnusPrime Oct 28, 2009 07:10 AM

Since this has now landed States-side, who's grabbed it, or is grabbing it? I know russ and Skills have both picked up a copy, anyone else? And is anyone up for some online racing, seeing how that goes?

Also, here's yet another couple of paint jobs I've done (click for big):

Finding people's storefronts is actually one of the random things that's far more difficult to do than you'd think. The easiest way I've found is to go to the stats/leaderboards page and then filter to friends, go to the friend you want's name and then when you click on them it gives you options, one of which should be to visit that person's storefront. Bit of a hassle, but you can get there.

Since russ never posted after he told me about his find, there is an easier way to get to your friend's storefronts: go to Storefront > My Storefront and then hit 'Y'. From the menu that pops up there will be an option for accessing your friends' storefronts.

Anyway, here are some designs I've produced recently (as ever, click for large size):

Another quick livery I knocked up whilst waiting for Skills to sort out a video between races:

http://www.opimage.co.uk/u/OmagnusPr...%20Evo%20X.jpg

The main purpose of this post though: is anyone going to be around tonight and wants to try doing a race? I've raced against Skills and russ, but only 1 on 1, but I think we should be able to get a few people together for a group race (/smash-up where Skills is concerned).

russ Nov 4, 2009 09:42 AM

If I see you guys racing when I get home from work, I might hop on for a little while and drive before switching over to Dragon Age.

Scent of a Grundle Nov 4, 2009 01:11 PM

this game looks great, i'd buy it just so i could race the Laytonmobile if I had an Xbox. Maybe i can use my brother's.
