Get World of Goo, pay whatever you feel like until the 19th

World of Goo is seriously a really fucking awesome PC game, and between now and October 19th, in celebration of its first birthday, they're offering the ability to pay what you feel like paying.

I paid $1, and I feel like shit because this game is totally worth its $20 asking price. :(

Seriously, it's awesome. Tower of Goo was a free tech demo they released a while back (which is cleverly referenced in an early level) and they have followed that up with fiendish puzzles and a wonderful soundtrack and style.

There's no reason not to pay $1 for an awesome game, and I figured I'd let everyone know about it. GO GET IT

Kimchi Oct 15, 2009 09:45 PM

Don't feel bad, I paid 10 cents. It's definitely worth my 10 cents.

Been playing 3 hours straight... never played this type of game until now.
I must say, it's very addictive, and it gets frustrating trying to over-achieve rather then going for minimum requirement.

Best 10 cents ever spent.

I paid $5 dollars.

Sarag Oct 15, 2009 11:48 PM

Mo0 why don't you buy another copy for $19 so you feel less guilty?

Alternately: Embrace your inner Jew.

Revel in it.

Because he's just saying he feels bad when he actually doesn't.

I bought this on Steam at a weekend deal, so I essentially paid around €4 for it. It saddens me when you know there's going to be tons of people paying 1 or 10 cents for the game, but then the guy probably already knew that when he put up the offer.

Now no one has an excuse not to get this.

Krelian Oct 16, 2009 10:41 AM

I paid five dollars. Seems reasonable given that I'll probably only ever play it when I'm stranded somewhere internetless.

Ditto. I've never even played this game even though it received a ton of "Best Game None of You So-Called 'Gamer' Prats Have Never Played" awards. Gonna start playing it later on at work.

The Plane Is A Tiger Oct 16, 2009 02:21 PM

I picked this up on WiiWare for $10 back when it was first released, and it was worth every penny. Chapter 4 in particular is just fantastic. Is there some reason why the PC version is normally $20?

I imagine they figure this has been sold to everyone that would pay for it already, so they're hoping to get people to try their games out to maybe build up some brand loyalty or something.

I mean, how many people bought Sim Tower because they loved Sim City?

Paco Oct 18, 2009 03:26 AM

Yeah... So I've been playing this for an hour now and I'm completely in love with this game. Now I actually feel bad that I only paid $5 for it. :(

OmagnusPrime Oct 18, 2009 03:57 AM

I've picked this up on the cheap too, though not got around to installing it yet (on account of having many other games to play), but it always looked interesting so I thought I'd give them a few quid and see how it goes.

Ozma Oct 18, 2009 04:33 AM

I don't know about it, but I obtained it for free (searched on piratebay or something). It was damn good, especially on chapter III (where the trickiest ones are located). The best four hours spent (attempts to get OCD not included).

Sides, the story is splendid. Hope there's a sequel of it (with trickier and harder puzzle and heartbreaking:gonk: story, of course).

So now that the option is available, arne'y you gonana yog it legit.

just pay something fuck

cheap cocksuck

Lukage Oct 18, 2009 11:30 AM

Paid $25, pirated a copy for my cheap ass roommate.

I think I even downloaded it a while back but never played it. *shrug*

WolfDemon Oct 18, 2009 03:27 PM

Dammit this game is hard. Or maybe I just suck at building adequate bridges... I'm stuck on Fisty's Bog and Ivy Tower right now. With Fisty's Bog, My balloons always end up floating too high and I can't add more than two goo balls before my bridge hits the bottom spikes.

On Ivy Tower, I can get up to the pipe, but I keep falling when I try to take any more from the bottom. ARRGH, PHYSICS.

Lukage Oct 18, 2009 07:02 PM

Just drag them along the side and you'll be fine on the tower.

Shenlon Oct 18, 2009 07:53 PM

I just got this game and since I've never actually heard of this game, I decided to pay a penny which I thought was impossible.
So if you feel bad for paying a dollar, you can look at my penny payment and feel better. I, on the other hand, am a bargain hunter and if this game is as good as people say a penny is well worth having in my low library of pc games.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 18, 2009 08:00 PM

Just curious.

But is a dollar not a bargain?

I actually do feel a smidge guilty that I paid $1 when I discovered the game is worth more than that. Do I feel bad enough to pay $19 to make up the difference? Admittedly no. At least I'm not Shenlon over here going "Ha HA, I have beaten the system with my one penny purchase!"

NovaX Oct 19, 2009 10:48 AM

It's good that this will encourage so many people to now play this, but bad in the sense that nobody with pay what it's actually worth (re: Shenlon).

I have had this for a while now, I bought it from WiiWare when it was released. I've almost completed most of the levels OCD.

Soluzar Oct 19, 2009 04:39 PM

I bought this a while ago when it was half price on Steam for some reason. It's a decent enough puzzler, but I never did finish it. Well worth whatever I paid for it, about half the normal UK price I think. I don't remember exactly.

Krelian Oct 20, 2009 10:11 AM

The results are in. An overwhelming plurality were assholes who only paid a single cent. The majority paid two dollars or less. Four weirdos paid fifty bucks.

map car man words telling me to do things Oct 20, 2009 11:13 AM

It's possible those people thought "Well, I'll pay five for each" and then passed the download link to four other people.

Over 16000 assholes who paid one cent was even more minirage since they didn't see any of the payments below $0.30 because of the paypal handling fees.

Bigblah Oct 20, 2009 11:27 AM

But I paid $500 for my shiny new graphics card! I deserve to pirate all my games from now on!
