Hiccups

Seriously what the fuck. I'll be sitting, minding my own business, and all of a sudden I'll start up a case of hiccups.

But seriously, is there some sort of health concern about having hiccups too much? I have them at least twice a day.

They are indeed annoying, but I often find that it's because of not allowing your food to "settle" in the stomach sufficiently after eating. As for health concerns, I'm 99.99% sure they are harmless.

Hiccups are actually your organs trying to escape. Don't let them!

Can hiccups be an allergic reaction, do you think? I'd always hiccup after lunch at work but I almost never have the same problem at home.

They happen at the most random of times...like when I'm sitting here on the computer, haven't had anything to eat or drink since work, and am just playing a vidya...and suddenly those fuckin hiccups start up again.

It's cancer isn't it? I finally got the cancer.

I have a failproof way of getting rid of hiccups for myself, but so far I've been unable to explain it so that someone else can do it.

The whole thing about holding your breath and/or drinking water is on the right track, but it's all about the muscles you're using, not about the actions.

1. Hold your breath.
2. for approximately 10 seconds, act as if you are breathing out, without letting yourself actually breathe out. This is the diaphragm you're using. (A more colorful way to think of it is as if you're straining in the bathroom, but only from the chest up. You don't have to actually strain, so don't overdo it)
3. It should be impossible to hiccup while you are doing this, but if you do end up hiccuping while doing it, try it again.
4. Are you hiccuping? (y/n)
5. Don't cough (if you can) for as long as you can. A lot of times this gets you right back to hiccuping.

Well be glad you aren't either of them

Oddly enough, I almost always get hiccups after eating muffins. Or English muffins. I don't know what it is, but usually those will trigger it. Not much else will. Breads and cakes are fine, but muffins seem to set me off.

Maybe it's a psychological thing.

I rarely have hiccups so I am lucky enough to not have to "enjoy" the experience very much. Do you get heartburn or indigestion? That could also be part of the problem. I am not too medically inclined, but it is something worth checking out.
