In case this shows up next week due to lack of nominations, please put this nomination on hold until I return. I will be out of the country. I will be returning Sept. 16th, so if it goes up the week of Sept. 14, that is fine.

Hey Liemtenshi,

I believe you aren't allowed to give more than 1 track 3 points, so you'll have to give one of those 2 points and another song 1 point, if this is the case.

It is, and it's not the first time he's voted incorrectly either. I hope he enjoys voting in vain.

Though part of this is orion's fault. Why he doesn't have the rules for voting listed in the opening post is baffling.

For everyone's reference:

Additional Spam:
I don't expect this to get any points, but I like it, so here goes nothing:

* Album: Tokimeki Memorial: Densetsu no Ju no Shita De (SNES Game Rip)
* Artist: Konami
* Track #: 31 of 146
* Track Title: Fireworks
* Year: 1996
* Additional Info: This track was titled "Holy House" in another rip I've heard, but the SNESmusic rip has it titled as "Fireworks", and that's the rip I'm using, so that's the title I'm using. GameFAQs lists the game title as "Tokimeki Memorial: Densetsu no Ki no Shita de". I have no idea which one is right, but I'm more inclined to go with SNESmusic on this one. Also, I don't know who composed this game, so I have the artist listed as "Konami". MobyGames doesn't seem to have this game in their DB.

It's not *that* baffling--I use the same template over and over and don't change it unless someone kvetches. So now that the proper procedure has been followed, I will respond to your kvetch by adding voting rules starting next week :D That said:

Arrow Flash (Game Rip) - Stage 1 This piece is right on the cusp of doing something more interesting than the standard shmup shtick. It doesn't quite make it--doesn't quite deliver on that promise--but it's still a halfway decent cut above the usual drek.

F.I.R.E. (Game Rip) - Title A little bloopy but still okay as chiptunes go.

Icewind Dale The Soundtrack - Untitled (Return To Kuldahar) That's not the possible title I'd have used ("Kuldahar Under Siege" has much more of a ring to it), but a good song nonetheless. It's very eclectic for its length, offering up a snippet of the Kuldahar theme before segueing into high-energy battle music and wrapping up with a preview of the spooky Lower Dorn's Deep theme. Good stuff.

Jazz Jackrabbit 3 (Game Rip) - Castle City Alex Brandon rarely disappoints, and I'm glad the music for JJ3 managed to crawl out of the rubble when the game collapsed. The lively tracker sound we all know and love is in full force here, with a great melody and some nice secondary effects to match.

Keys of the city - The Diver Loungy 1980's style jazz that reminds me of Dave Grusin. As easy listening music it works, though the sound is undeniably cheesy.

Maniac Mansion (NES Game Rip) - Flashbulb Funk (Michael's Theme) There's a reason that MM took the gold in the Best Chiptune Contest: it rules. Everything a good chiptune should be--melodic, rhythmic, and creative.

Rise of the Triad: Dark War (Game Rip) - Goin' Down The Fast Way Much better than I expected, given that the game is from the era where tinny MIDI dominated and ruined PC soundtracks worldwide. There isn't a whole lot of substance, but the fast pace and frenetic synth runs almost make up for it.

StarSweep Original Sound Track - Crystal Vision Almost as cheesy as Keys, but in a less dated way. The fact that the music is high-energy with a great melody helps quite a bit; I liked it a lot.

Point allocation was really hard this week; good show everyone.

The Point Spread
Castle City - 2 pts.
Crystal Vision - 2 pts.
Return to Kuldahar - 1 pt.
Flashbulb Funk - 1 pt.

Sounds good!

Actually, I think I noticed it once before and never mentioned anything, so I suppose I'm not innocent here.

What can I say? I'm a whore for Jazz Jackrabbit.

(3 points) Jazz Jackrabbit 3 (Game Rip) - Castle City
(1 point) StarSweep Original Sound Track - Crystal Vision
(1 point) Maniac Mansion (NES Game Rip) - Flashbulb Funk (Michael's Theme)

Now that I corrected it, will this be eligible? I swear I would get the hang of this!
Thx for the voting link. I have looked for it, but only found the nomination link.

Sorry that I kept messing up!

Yup. Looks good to me!

Yep. It's off an officially released album, so it's fair game.

Anyhow, here's some points:

3 Points: Maniac Mansion (NES Game Rip) - Flashbulb Funk (Michael's Theme)
2 Points: Rise of the Triad: Dark War (Game Rip) - Goin' Down The Fast Way
1 Point: StarSweep Original Sound Track - Crystal Vision

The bottom three did it for me this week. Thought I'd like the JJ3 song but it felt flat compared to Brandon's other works.

ZiggyGo Sep 5, 2009 01:52 PM

Gotta vote today so here goes:

3 points: StarSweep Original Sound Track - Crystal Vision
2 points: Rise of the Triad: Dark War (Game Rip) - Goin' Down The Fast Way
1 point: F.I.R.E. (Game Rip) - Title

Wow. That Rise of the Triad: Dark War song was awesome. I'll have to check out the rest of that game rip.

Kaleb.G Sep 5, 2009 03:58 PM

This week was not so interesting to me, but not bad either.

3 points - Rise of the Triad: Dark War (Game Rip) - Goin' Down The Fast Way
2 points - Jazz Jackrabbit 3 (Game Rip) - Castle City
1 point - Icewind Dale The Soundtrack - Untitled (Return To Kuldahar)

3 points: F.I.R.E. (Game Rip) - Title
2 points: StarSweep Original Sound Track - Crystal Vision
1 point: Keys of the city - The Diver

This week was great! I enjoyed 6/8 tracks (I found the JJ track oddly dry), and am absolutely loving "Title" and "Crystal Vision". Third point was difficult to allocate.

Duck King Sep 6, 2009 08:08 AM

3 points: F.I.R.E. (Game Rip) - Title
2 points: Rise of the Triad: Dark War (Game Rip) - Goin' Down The Fast Way
1 point: Keys of the city - The Diver

Stage 1 was good fun too, I would have loved to give it a point. But in an outstanding week such as this, something usually ends up getting the shaft. Also, reppin first Spectrum song to make its way to SotW.

Nomination:

isdapi Sep 6, 2009 12:55 PM

<<3 points>> Keys of the city - The Diver
<<2 points>> Arrow Flash (Game Rip) - Stage 1
<<1 point>> Maniac Mansion (NES Game Rip) - Flashbulb Funk (Michael's Theme)

3 points - Rise of the Triad: Dark War (Game Rip) - Goin' Down The Fast Way
2 points - F.I.R.E. (Game Rip) - Title
1 point - Jazz Jackrabbit 3 (Game Rip) - Castle City

Edit: Nomination

Artist: Slake (Takehiko Fujii)
Album: Beatmania IIDX 9th Style Original Soundtrack
Track Title: Breeding (Premium Party Mix)
Disc #: 2
Track #: 24
Year: 2003
Catalog Number: KOLA-040~1
Source: http://vgmdb.net/album/1338
Other Info: Slake is amazing. I wanted to nominate another song, but something tells me sped up and distorted jazz vocal samples mixed with drum n bass sounds won't go over too well with most people.

THE POWER OF WATER Sep 7, 2009 03:04 AM

2 points: Arrow Flash (Game Rip) - Stage 1
2 points: Maniac Mansion (NES Game Rip) - Flashbulb Funk (Michael's Theme)
1 point: Jazz Jackrabbit 3 (Game Rip) - Castle City
1 point: Rise of the Triad: Dark War (Game Rip) - Goin' Down The Fast Way

The combination of Dave Hayes and Dave Warhol is one of the most unstoppable duos in all of VGM (closest competition: Kenji Yamamoto and Masaru Tajima).

Also I can't believe I'm in the same week not going points to tracks from Keys of the city and StarSweep. :(

Ceft Sep 7, 2009 07:39 AM

Huh, I'm not surprised JJ3 is not doing so well, just disappointed. Then again, if Tubelectric didn't place when it was nominated... XD

Game Title: Chex Quest 3 (Game Rip)
Artist: Andrew Benson (drooben)
Track Title: Space Port (E2M1)
Year: 2008
Additional Information: Yes, it's a rip of Chex Quest 3 and a track from Chex Quest 2, but then again it's 3 that has all the episodes available.

1 points: Untitled (Return to Kuldahar)

1 point: Castle City
1 point: The Diver
Just missed: Stage 1

I am 98% certain I heard that Rise of the Triad tune years before in some freeware game or flash movie or something online that wasn't Rise of the Triad, the melody just came straight back to me the first time I heard it here. I'm racking my head where the hell did I hear it from

Quite a good week.

My next nom:

Album: Pulstar
Composer: Harumi Fujita, Yasuaki Fujita
Track: Seen Through (Stage 2 BGM)
Track #: 24
Catalog #: PCCB-0192
Year: 1995
Source: PCCB-00192: PULSTAR - VGMdb
Additional Info: This should hopefully perform better than my previous nom from this soundtrack "Galactic Ruler", which is still badass and you all suck

Can't FTP it up right now, so I've uploaded the tune to Megaupload. Get it here: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

It sounds like a Double Dragon Stage theme to me... but I don't know... maybe it's from Street Fighter 2.
