Civ 4 BtS won't run and it makes me sad

Sorry about this guys but my internet connection crapped out this morning (posting from my phone), the laptop's decided not to run BtS and my Xbox RRODed (Not related granted but annoying none the less) so I'll need to sit a few turns out until I can fix everything.

:(

Damn. That's a hell of a combination all at once. Well, hopefully it can be fixed, and until that point, we'll just jump to Pang from me. Your turn Pang.

My web connection has recovered now but for some reason, BtS is the only of the four CivIV types I have that won't work, Warlords, Vanilla and Colonization work fine. :(

Does anyone know where I can download a version of BtS that works?

I'm not sure anyone can help you with that if your description of the problem is limited to "won't work". Won't work in what way, exactly?

It gets about a third of the way up the initial loading splash screen then does a "Windows has encountered a problem, would you like to send a report to Microsoft's junk mail folder?" thing. It won't even load up properly. I think a fresh install is the order of the day but figured if someone knew of a guaranteed healthy source it might be better than the installer package I already have.

Mr. Big Gay Unicorn, does your Event logs say anything of relevance?

Error signature is
Quote:

AppName: civ4beyondsword.exe AppVer: 3.1.3.1 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.5781 Offset: 00012afb
System log says
Quote:

Faulting application civ4beyondsword.exe, version 3.1.3.1, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5781, fault address 0x00012afb.
Neither of which mean anything to me of course.

Chulo Unicorn, try Game won't launch [Archive] - Civilization Fanatics' Forums

How are you running Civ4 BTS? Is it via a cracked executable or via Mini-image?

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Aug 11, 2009 04:02 AM

It's a cracked exe. I'll try reinstalling it later and if that doesn't work, go hunting for a different pirate version.

In other Civ related news, I had a go at the newest version of Colonization last night and I still don't like it. It's not really that different from the original and the game requires far too much micro-management to be fun frankly. I might refine my strategy and give it another go but otherwise I think I'll stick to proper Civ.

You may want to consider using a hacked CD-image instead of a cracked executable. In my experience, those cracked execs tend to cause inexplicable errors elsewhere.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Aug 11, 2009 02:30 PM

Re-installed the bitch and got a different cracked exe, seems to work ok now!

My laptop's still below minimum spec of course but that's a whole different problem. Cheers for the suggestions guys.
