Ai's Art Dump [version 2.0]

Life's been hectic. College apps are nasty work. But now that I'm college bound and summer's just around the corner I'm trying to get back into the art forum community. It's been a looonnnng time since I've stepped into forums so I'll just post recent pieces and what I'm currently working on.

Portraits of my friends & I

mixed media paintings

WIP--really really bad but I want to keep going with it.

character concept for a design challenge
"asian fighter"

WIP-- school project, ancient & modern icon together
bastet (egyptian cat goddess & catwoman)

C&C on my WIPs would be awesome.

Nice pieces, I especially like your vector-like drawings; your mixed media ones are pretty good as well though. Are you planning on majoring in an art related field for college?

I sort of wish I stuck with drawing and painting... I enjoyed it so much until my last few years of High school where my teachers sort of ruined it for me. Hopefully I can find more time to get back into it though -- so much to do so little time...

aiyaitsai May 30, 2009 05:01 PM

Thanks. Yeah I'm goin into an art college in NY
the major is techincally computer art, but I plan on going into 3D

In this field you're gonna get alot of critique, both good and bad. The point is to take it or leave it and keep moving forward. So if you do get back into it, continue even if ppl say nasty stuff. The thing to keep in mind is to not completely ignore opinions and make em constructive.

Seris May 30, 2009 06:08 PM

so it would basically be awesome if you kept posting more art.

Shenlon May 30, 2009 11:09 PM

wow, I love these pieces and i love you for posting them.
Seriously, so much envy on my end. Hope to see more from you

Nothing but top illustrations from you.
How long does it take you for something like that guitar chick?

aiyaitsai Aug 17, 2009 12:54 PM

Haha thanks.
Uhhm, I worked on the top piece at different times but estimating one night per piece.

Tijuana Aug 17, 2009 05:15 PM

Damn great artwork!
I wish I could draw like you,
I've been practicing in Sai, but not much of an outcome ;^^

aiyaitsai Aug 17, 2009 07:59 PM

Thanks!
Ahhh I really wanna try Sai but I haven't gotten the change to install bootcamp on my mac.

In the meantime, here's a new commission piece.

Oh very nice. Do you use a reference or just sketch it out then do the clean outline?
I actually got Sai a while ago and I find it very fun and easy to use. It's pretty much a very fast running sketch book for computers, cept it has some very fancy features and awesome brushes and the curve tool which is a fantastic tool for quick outlines. Also has a pen tool for vector lines which is nice as well.

aiyaitsai Aug 17, 2009 09:59 PM

Thanks~
Mm I rarely start with a reference. If I do use ref, its after I start the pose and can't seem to figure out stuff.

If you care to look, I was requested to do a process screenshot for PLAY.
Yay sloppy walkthrough.

I really want OC actually. It has everything I want from a painting program without all the extra crap Painter X offers. God that program is confusing.

Shenlon Aug 17, 2009 10:05 PM

Tell me about it, I mean painter does have a variety of brushes but I think they went overboard with it. I had a hard time just setting the pencil in the setting that I wanted the first time I opened it.

Vemp Aug 17, 2009 10:31 PM

Hey! You're back! Nice stuff! Post more.

I need to get back to posting art here too!

aiyaitsai Aug 17, 2009 10:38 PM

@vemp; haha yeah what happened to the boards man.
came back and there were dust bunnies in art dumps.

@shen; i've never been able to figure out the brushes. lol
