UFC- Undisputed
A fighting game...made by THQ, that doesn't suck?
I have been a UFC fan for a few years now, after wrestling took a turn for the worst...I wanted something a bit different, that would get me excited while watching it. Oh, and by excited (to the smart ass people that will probably reply) I mean it in the gayest way possible..ya know, since it's two men rolling around on each other, sweating and panting, what else could I mean....right? This game is an absolute blast to play. The fighting is much different than anything i've played before it and a huge improvement from past UFC games. The controls are responsive, the graphics are what you'd expect from any sports game coming out. -They all look great, but all seem to be a bit robotic. One thing that makes this game stand out from any other fighting game, each victory 'feels' great. You'll get up out of your seat after a hard fought match and yell at the TV and glee as the replay shows of you bashing your fists into the opponents face. It's similar to feel of killing someone in Gears of War, it's just so....satisfying. |
I'm planning on getting this soon hopefully, I enjoyed the demo and really want to be able to make my own fighter. Even my mom wants to play it, most of my family and extended family seems to enjoy UFC. I kind of sucked at it though, everything just leaked out of my head once I finished the tutorials. Just floundered around in the Exhibition button mashing for a little while but got into a little groove after about 10 minutes. But I'm dying to make a Muay Thai fighter.
My friend over XBL, uh, exercised some of his strong anger issues on his controller and mic already...he played it online last night and apparently got his ass murdered. I figured like...that's to be expected so what's the big deal? Lord knows I've been shoryuken'd to death in both XBLA SFII games. But he was saying that people were knocking him out in like 2 hits at the start of the match, supposedly there's already a list of cheaters to avoid online *shrug* Probably why I don't plan on playing anyone other than my friends. |
Game is really great. My only real issue with it so far is in the career mode. You great a new character and are forced to start out with really low points. I make a Boxing/Wrestler character and win about 5 fights no problem. Then I fight a Jujitsu specialist. I swear it is impossible to break their submissions unless you have some decent stats in defense vs it. The problem is, you don't exactly have that many points to pump it up at this point. It doesn't help that breaking submissions is done with the controller destroying mechanic of spinning the right stick clockwise. Did they just forget about the horror stories of the first Mario Party?

I was positively surprised when i tried it out, took a while to figure out the controls (and i still dont understand the ground game) but after that it was a blast. I love how smooth everything is, the punching, kicking etc but the most by the transitions, the takedown switching, turning around, groundpounding. Nothing seems jerky or awkward. Also the fact that you can do pretty much everything and still have good control is worth a pat on the back to the developers.
There are some things that annoy me, the one punch knockout shit is annoying and seems so random, for instance if you are Chuck Lidell you can just keep throwing punches and eventually you will knock the other guy out. This and Fight Night will be great party games though ! |
