Kingdom Hearts Official Piano Collections

RPGFan News - Kingdom Hearts Piano Collections Announced

Quote:

Square Enix plans to release an arrange album called "Piano Collections Kingdom Hearts" in Japan this May for 3,000 yen ($32.05 USD). Details are still a little scarce at this point, but at least we know that the tracks featured on this album were selected based on a fan voting conducted last year. It's worth noting that, outside the Final Fantasy series, Square Enix hasn't released a piano solo arranged album since SaGa Frontier 2 in 1999, long before the Square-Enix merger.

As reported yesterday, May will also see the Japanese release of the newest addition to the Kingdom Hearts franchise, the DS-based Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.
I have been hoping for this album for years, glad to hear its coming this soon.

EDIT: Samples! A Yoko interview video came up and it has two samples in it. First one is Dearly Beloved, the other sounds like a transition phrase...

Nice! It seems we've had plenty of unofficial attempts at this already. About time Square came out and made something official.

Waiting with bated breath.

Is it Shimomura arranging her own works? That would be sort of boring, she's not too good when it comes to making interesting piano pieces. Shiro Hamaguchi would be good for KH type of music (listen to PC FFIX or FFVII, those are actually decent).

Not going to mention Hamauzu, since he should've made the OSTs in the first place...

Timberwolf8889 Mar 9, 2009 05:33 AM

Wow, that's a pleasant surprise! I'll be on the look out for that, I agree with Kishin that it would be a bit boring if she arranges her own stuff though...

Agreed with you on all counts. Apparently Shimomura is not, but an unidentified female arranger is. Maybe Natsumi Kameoka.

I am so ridiculously excited for this. I'm a sucker for good solo piano arrangements. The Piano Sonata concept is kind of cool, never seen that before...not that I'm much of a music buff at all. Sweet, thanks for the track list!

Have to say I agree with you Timberwolf8889 - even though I've only heard Dearly Beloved in-game, but certainly a solo piano arrangement is cool.

The Dearly Beloved arrangement seemed OK, but pretty dull in my opinion, I hope it kind of builds into something a bit later in the song. But based on those samples I'm pretty excited for this album, thanks for the links Kairi!

Check it out now!

Thanks, love the KH soundtrack, especially "dearly beloved"

Phatcorns May 26, 2009 11:01 AM

Anybody get it yet? It's on the Japanese itunes store right now! Argh! I just bought an itunes card from jlist thinking it would be instantly emailed to me, but who knows when it actually will be. I also have it ordered from yesasia, but who knows when that will come in.

mrdrew_champloo May 27, 2009 03:20 PM

Can anyone find it? I've looked high and low for it online and can't find it anywhere!

Phatcorns May 27, 2009 03:23 PM

I bought it off of the Japanese itunes, but it's drm protected, so there is no easy way for me to post it. I tried recording it this morning, but it turns out I was accidentally recording through the mic, so it sounds like shit. You can hear it here though, www.phatcorns.com/music/KHPIANO.mp3

If it's still not up tonight, I will make a quick and dirty recording of the whole thing when I get off of work.

mrdrew_champloo May 27, 2009 03:33 PM

Cool. Thank you. Since I'm guessing you've heard the whole album, how is it? Care to do a mini review for us? :)

Kairi Li May 27, 2009 11:48 PM

Gamemp3s has it now.

I have enjoyed this album, though some arrangements could have been a little longer.

Ok, more specifically I wish Roxas was a tad big longer. But I really liked that theme. Other Promise was great, but I always like the quieter, melancolic Roxas theme.

Overall, its a lovely album with good arrangments, hopefully this album would encourage more piano collections and arrangement albums.

Oh in case people need to know, the arrangers are Sachiko Miyano / 宮野幸子, Natsumi Kameoka / 亀岡夏海 .

This is indeed good news. I'll listen to it in a short bit and tell people what I think of it (in case someone is interested in a sort-of objective view).

Additional Spam:
This will probably merge with my previous post, but anyway.

It was bland. I didn't really enjoy much, other than the Riku piece in the four-part sonata of sorts. The players were quite unenthusiastic and uninterested in the music they were playing.

I've heard better in all regards. Even KH music could've probably produced a better result if someone really had put effort and thought into it.

yangxu May 29, 2009 10:44 PM

I can't believe they didn't include Hikari and Passion in there...
I was hoping for Hollow Bastion and its associated battle theme as well, oh well =(

Timberwolf8889 May 31, 2009 09:42 AM

I wasn't expecting much from this considering the reviews other people had posted, and there are definitely some tracks that are MUCH stronger than the rest. So as an album I would say it's ok, but some of the individual pieces were really nice.

I see what Kishin meant about the players being unenthusiastic but I think this varied song to song. I just think some of the arrangements didn't leave much to the player's imaginations. I like songs where the dynamics change around a lot but some of the songs felt flat (like Traverse Town I thought...) It's a really mixed bag, but if you're a fan of Kingdom Hearts or piano arrangements I think you'll find a few gems in it.

So far the tracks I keep coming back to:

The Other Promise - I'm a sucker for big crescendos...I'm not a music buff by any stretch of the imagination but I like this one, has the type of build up that hits me right in the heart socket.

Missing You ~ Namine - Again, just lots of variation within the song. I've only listened to it a few times.

Anyway, that's my long winded rant about that. >_>
