KillZone 2 - part one never existed
Don't think there was an official thread for this for some reason, but I guess everyone still likes fantasy FPS games where you shoot plasmas and rays to the head but for some reason the enemy is able to take ten more shots.
Well Killzone is more like cod4 but in the far, phar future with explosions, and bullets, and graphics. Well reason I created this thread now is because I pre-ordered Killzone 2 and I just recieved the email from gamestop for my demo download. So if there's anyone else out there who got it too and feels like playing some deuce'. Woops turns out the demo isn't accesible until the 5th =p see you then If you didn't get the demo yet then I guess I'll see you when the game officially comes out. PSN names are already in the Multiplayer Arena but just in case I don't have you on my list for some reason my PSN is AniZeke |
If the game is even half as good as most people are saying, I'll probably pick it up. Just juggle that and SF IV.
|
What, Killzone is nothing like CoD4, the enemies still take a bunch of bullets in the face before dying.
It's really a lot like Resistance in terms of pacing and scripted sequences. Looks ace though. [[photo of promo copy]] |
Is anybody else annoyed by games where a headshot isn't a fucking one-hit kill? This isn't a god damned RPG. BULLET IN BRAIN, YOU FALL DOWN.
|
That always catches me out in Gears of War too. I'll shoot three guys in the head in quick succession Rainbow style and they'll all still be running towards me. :(
|
I dunno if it's my aim or the rifle in use, but I managed to pull off a bunch of lucky (and very satisfying) headshots with the new rifle in Gears 2, but other times when I was certain I hit them in the head, I apparently didn't. The exploding head is always nice.
It's far more annoying when a game uses one of those exaggerated reaction animations that cause more trouble than they're worth. Aiming for the chest and hitting an arm, triggering the required overdone reaction animation, usually causing the enemy's other hand to get in the way, triggering the same animation again. I could literally waste dozens of bullets into a pirate in Uncharted because the game decided I'm constantly hitting an arm and shooting someone in both arms six times apparently doesn't drop them. Killzone 2 has some of that, but luckily not too much to frustrate. You can bring down a few guys easily, other times spend two clips and the guy still won't die. At least they are wearing heavy clothing/armor, so it's somewhat more plausible. |
I haven't gotten to play any of the game yet so I was just going by what I saw in videos so I just assumed that maybe shooting bullets near the head area would get quicker kills which is what I did for cod4 but I'm guessing it took a page from mgo in which you have to empty a whole clip with body shots.
Have to try it for myself to see difference |
I've got this on pre-order (especially since Play.com have it up for £30) and I'm hoping it's as fun to play as it looks from the videos. To be honest I'm not expecting anything amazing, just a very good looking solid shooter, so here's hoping it delivers.
I am very interested to play with the multiplayer aspect though, the Warzone concept sounds ace, and I like the sound of the CoD4 inspired badges and being able to build your own custom classes. |
If anyone cares, you can preorder from Amazon and get $5 off with free shipping using coupon KZ2SAVE5.
You won't get a code for a free demo, but instead a code for some free exclusive Home content. Whoopee. For those of you who preordered from Gamespot, will the free demo codes work on more than one machine? Does anybody want to share their demo code with me if it does :(? |
Actually I think once you use up the code it becomes invalid after that for everyone trying to use it. Atleast thats how the LBP and Resistence codes were.
Your best bet is if you get it off of someones account and share it that way. |
Ah well.
I remember I got a key from Dizzy to get into the LBP beta, but it might have simply been an extra key as opposed to the same one... Once you guys get the demo I want to hear some impressions. Previews from the major sites have been nothing but positive, but I'd rather hear the opinion of a gamer consumer rather than a gamer journalist. |
For anyone in Europe, or with a European PSN account, the Killzone 2 demo is going up today at 5pm GMT (source).
|
It's up for download already in the EU account. For some stupid reason my code isn't working so I'm giving it a dl from my eu name
|
Well I've kicked off the demo, but in the tradition of new releases on the PSN it has gone precisely nowhere so far (0% FTW -_-).
|
That's funny because it downloaded like in less than 30 min for me. Already installed, I'll try it later though
|
How odd. In fairness it's probably not helped by the fact I'm downloading the Halo Wars demo on my 360 at the same time, but even so.
|
Your router is clearly an Xbox fanboy.
|
Gonna grab the demo now. Cheers for the heads-up, guys.
|
Demo has no Online Play whatsoever.
Single Player on the other hand was really nice, Played through it three times to get used to the controls. Small tip if your a fan of cod4, change the control settings to "Alternate 2" and turn on "Hold Zoom", the controls will feel a lot more familiar this way |
Shortest demo ever.
Damned pretty game, but not as impressive as I thought it would be. The colour design was quite nice... It's refreshing to see a modern console FPS that isn't entirely chock full of brown and bloom. I think I'm more wowed by the animation and the palette than any kind of photorealism they were aiming for. I'll wait to see people bitch about the quality of the full game before I make a decision. Shortest demo EVER. And they had the gall to put in a "level select" menu. :( |

Anyways, I've not had a chance to try it yet because the download was running so friggin slow I gave up and paused it so I could play Left 4 Dead without horrific lag. Left it downloading overnight though so I'll give it a whirl after work today. |
This is one of the worst demos ever.
And before you say it, no, not because of the game, but because of the content. Or lack there of. This isn't a demo. It shouldn't be marketed or passed off as such. It's a teaser for those who already preordered the damn thing. I can understand now why they handed this out as PO bonuses. There's no one to convince of anything here, and this sampling, if you can call it that, doesn't go out of it's way to do that. KZ2 still doesn't have me sold. I was neutral towards it going into this thing...and this has made me even MORE so, if that's possible. All I got was a face full of gorgeous looking but typical dull-tutorial style encounters that didn't teach me a damn thing I didn't already know, and it's unfortunate. I was hoping to have my mind swayed one way or another and instead I'm left wondering if this flavourless morsel is indicative of the final product or not. Is this because it's no good or because the portion is so small you can't actually pick up anything? It's hard to tell since it's so short that no one's gleaned a GOD DAMN THING from playing it. |

Even though I didn't play it, listening to Skills' adventures in taking 3 and a half hours to download (and install. What the fuck, it couldn't install while downloading?) a 14-minute demo left me wholly unimpressed.
I don't have a PS3 but could someone illuminate me on whether or not that's typical of demos on that system? Because that's just WRONG. |
Download times on the PSN are a matter of pot-luck, sometimes it can actually be rather speedy, by then you'll get others (typically popular downloads when they first hit) that just crawl along.
