Iris seemed like it went on forever, but it was entertaining throughout and the only track this week I am keeping.

The 1 pointers barely made it at all.

I found this week pretty good. The additional point is just nom bias.

I'm not sure what's up with STC. The link is in my template, and CHz said that everything was still cool over there the last time I asked.

Death Gate (Game Rip) - Opening theme I was expecting something super-tinny, what with this being a MIDI and all, but it's actually not bad--sounds like something from an early SNES game more than anything. It's got a nice subdued feel and some good harp arpeggios.

Diddy Kong Racing Original Soundtrack - Lobby Theme Some neat jazzy licks here, though there isn't a whole lot of melody. Not bad!

IRiS - a vision The beginning is a little iffy, but things eventually come up to speed with a trancy electronic sound. It's okay, but I don't normally go in for this sort of stuff as much as other people do.

milestone -dj TAKA- - MOON -Sun Mix- Harder-edged trance beats with the addition of a vocalist. The beats are okay, and the singer definitely adds a comedy edge, but it's not the sort of thing I see myself listening to very often.

One Must Fall: Battlegrounds (Game Rip) - Crystal Cold (old) This shares some stylistics with the last two songs. It's got some interesting beats and figures, but never really goes anywhere.

PUZZLE BOBBLE • GEKIRINDAN etc. ~Welcome to the Karuland~ - REVOLUTION (BGM 2/A.D.1942) I guess I expected something more bouncy from something with the word bobble in the title. This is pretty dour stuff, and while it has its moments, overall it was kind of a slog to get through.

Tatsujin-Oh - Heavy Long Possibly the best track title this week. It's decent as far as this kind of jazz fusion goes, but that's also a style I'm not super-fond of. The fiddle is a nice touch, but the song ultimately doesn't feel like it goes anywhere.

Viking: Battle for Asgard - The Soundtrack - Choir Of Valkyries I was really disappointed with this OST until this last track. It plays into my weakness for smashing big choral pieces, building from gentle, mournful voices up to a tremendous crescendo. It's not super-original (definitely a little borrowing from Howard Shore going on) but I like it anyway.

Well, the streak of good weeks had to end sometime, I guess.

Death Gate (Game Rip) - Opening theme has a cute, dark tone which I like---and the melodic substance is decent. Some of the progressions are great, and make me think of old PC adventure games. :) As a piece of music though, it's merely OK.

The melody of Diddy Kong Racing Original Soundtrack - Lobby Theme is nostalgic and fun, but damn, this version of it isn't developed at all. Not something I'd listen to outside of the game, though for some reason that melody's always nice to hear~

Well, IRiS - a vision is wonderful. Strikingly beautiful, and electronically elegant; every little thing works in this 8-minute monster. Sadly I don't remember much about it (in terms of melody) now that it's finished, but boy did I enjoy it regardless. Excellent nom, Dijinova; I think this is the first Touhou piece I've heard that I've thoroughly enjoyed.

The vocals in milestone -dj TAKA- - MOON -Sun Mix- turns me off a bit (nine times out of ten I don't like vocals in my electronica), but the music itself is catchy. Doesn't pack much musical punch---or profoundness---and in the end the vocals really kill it for me.

One Must Fall: Battlegrounds (Game Rip) - Crystal Cold (old) was interesting, that's for sure. The change in style from start to finish managed to keep me entertained throughout, and the melody was pretty cool as well. Indeed it's an odd piece but it flows incredibly well and keeps its melodic sensibilities intact. Very good~

PUZZLE BOBBLE • GEKIRINDAN etc. ~Welcome to the Karuland~ - REVOLUTION (BGM 2/A.D.1942) was OK. A bit of a :frownyface: tone, but it creates a nice atmosphere, and some of the progressions are nice and add to the overall mood. Composition's decent too. Yeah, this one's OK.

Tatsujin-Oh - Heavy Long is super slick and contains some nice fusion passages; the guitar parts were nice as well. Not much of a melody to grab onto, but for what it is, I was pleasantly surprised.

Viking: Battle for Asgard - The Soundtrack - Choir Of Valkyries was nothing more than pleasant. No oustanding orchestral smashes, then again it didn't bore me to tears either. It captures a great deal of emotion and sophistication in its 3 minute run time, and that's admirable enough.

So that melodic riff from that other Gekirindan track is in this one too, that's cool. Really, it is, that track was pretty great, and so is this one.

Also the amount of points I have given to Diddy Kong Racing tracks thus far in SotW is far too low. :(

The Lobby theme? Really?

Lucky enough, I'm a huge sucker for a good Stage/Character Select theme. Seriously, I'd do a Stage Select Revolution for my next couple of noms if they weren't from relatively popular games.

I thought this week was pretty good overall. Opening Theme was a very well done orchestral MIDI tune, maybe in the future I'll feel bad for not giving it any points. Right now this point spread is super easy.
