OK I have to ask: What's the deal with Galbadia Hotel?

I'm a little concerned over the downtime of Galdabia hotel, as it's where I get the vast majority of my music. I've even donated.....ok only $5.00 but still.

So for the first time in like 2 years, I venture back onto this site, to see if anybody here had any reason as to what was going on.

However.....all I seem able to find, is that a lot of people here don't actually like GH at all, that it's run by someone called Sarah who people don't like either and nothing but complete dislike for the whole site. It's all done by 12 year olds apparantly.

Now I admit, I used to come to this GFA around 2001 to pick up game music, all the time. You guys had the albums laid out so easily, and it was far more professionally presented than GH. So in a way, I could say, you were much better to use than GH.

But I still don't understand why there's the need for so much hate. There's a few threads where people actually say they hope that GH stays down. That wouldn't suit me at all.

The only real issues I have with GH, is that a lot of OST's are listed as 'track 1, track 2 track 3' etc, which makes it hard to easily find the music you need. Also, you can only d/l 2 songs at a time, otherwise the links just give you .txt files. And some of the songs are named wrongly.

Uh, and also there isn't much new music to find up there. Also, a few games are ripped twice....some with the songs moved around, and etc. Little annoying. Plus......there isn't all the soundtracks that I'm looking for on it (that's why I still post on the Games that need to be ripped thread lol), but I can sort of understand that.

Most annoying thing is however, some the tracks aren't ripped properly, and they have speaking all over it, or they end in wrong places.....it seems a lot of them are actual 'game rips' and not OSTs, which is fine, if there is none, for say like Banjo Kazooie, etc.

However, despite these flaws, it's still a good place to obtain music from. I know, there may be bit torrent clients that host more music and stuff, but still. Nothing beats a good website with proper mp3 links.

So yeah, just my two cents, if you know why Gh has gone specifically now or wanna tell me that this Sarah person really owns a sweatshop in India or something, have at it :) Even better would be if you tell me to shut up and wait...GFA 5 is being launched next week.

Well.....I can dream, right?

I doubt anyone here knows, because I doubt anyone here cares. Last I heard they were having financial troubles, but that was months ago. I guess Sarah's millions of dollars couldn't save that shitpile.

blah blah blah

You're right, most people here don't like Sarah. For good reason, too. And if you found that people here don't care for GH, WHY ARE YOU HERE ASKING FOR INFORMATION ABOUT IT?

Common sense, motherfucker, do you have any?

Of course it wouldn't suit you. How immature is that? "I don't want it down because then I can't get my music!"

Stop whining.

GFA5 won't be launched next week. Keep dreaming. If all is right in the world, GH is down for good and Sarah was taken away for all that pedophilia and stupidity we all know her for. She's probably conning you all for money, a la a certain Korean man we all know and love to hate.

Good riddance.

Okay.

In seriouness, "Sarah" ran out of money because "she" spent all the donations on wherever it is that transsexual pedophiles generally spend their money on (Hello Kitty merchandise I would guess).

Nobody's going to pay $2500 to put that shack back online. SAD TIMES!

(I have no idea why some solution for GFA hasn't been reached. Just 5 or so rotating albums at a time would probably be sustainable, and I could definitely afford to act as a mirror)

GFA is now VGMdb and we won't be hosting downloads.

That said, the GFF frontpage could use something other than RSS feeds.

Uh.......lol ok. So basically you're saying to SHUT UP AND STOP WHINING. NOOB TLDR STFU GO ELSEWHERE.

First off, ok. Yeah it seems Gh is a pretty sore subject. But wtf, it's not like she killed kids in 'Nam or something? What did she do, steal GFA's staff? Take credit for something you personally worked on?

If you would have just replied and said "Yeah dude, I'm not really sure. ask someone else", than ok. But your response is full of such unbridled hate.....wow You need to slow down. I'm NOT ATTACKING GFA. OR YOU. YOU HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING WRONG TO ME. understand?

And I don't think it's immature to say "wow, there was this place I used to go to get music, but now it's closed down, that sucks."

Ok, well let's see what I've learned: this 'Sarah', seems to be some pedo transvestite millionaire con. :eye:

Well, you didn't attack the site itself. Thinking about it, it was pretty shoddy design.

Still.....at least I got an answer, even if it was just flame. Now I'll shut up. Hopefully other people as clueless as me but didn't have the balls (or stupidity yes yes ok ultima) to ask can learn from my mistake.

The unmovable stubborn Jan 3, 2009 02:26 PM

VGMdb is its own thing, though, and appears to have no meaningful connection to GFF at all other than the constant looming presence of Secret Squirrel. I mean by all means you're welcome to your music wikipedia or whatever the fuck you've got going on but it's not doing Gamingforce any damn good, if you follow. Do the sites even link to each other at all? (Not that VGMdb is going to haul in a lot of traffic for us, but.. the principle.)

Bigblah Jan 3, 2009 02:44 PM

Well yeah, basically we cut it loose. So something else will have to take its place on Gamingforce, is what I'm saying.

That's what SlightlyDark has been doing for ages, though, and they're really just a minor blip on the VGM scene. Of course, they also suffer from a lack of self-promotion; you either know about SD through a liaison like GFF, or you have no clue about its existence at all.

But you're right in a sense; Gamingforce could stand to offer up select albums in rotation and attract new members, and perhaps some former ones too. Our profile is high enough and we aren't harangued by the albatross of being owned and operated by a pedophile. (Just a drunk, and we ditched him.) Anything beats doing nothing and then whining about dwindling member activity.

I mean, if VGMdb isn't formally connected to Gamingforce, what do we really have? Surely we can think of something interesting.

The unmovable stubborn Jan 3, 2009 04:04 PM

It also doesn't help that SlightlyDark goes out of its way to feature the most obscure albums they can possibly find. Whether anybody wants to admit it one of the big pulls for VGM enthusiasm is nostalgia, and there are probably about two people on Earth who look back fondly on their time playing Ys on the PC88.

Just going by what she said and all, but she would defend pedophiles as people who merely want to love children, not hurt them - people who rape children are definitely not pedophiles - and she posted pictures of herself as a chick with a dick. I suppose she could've been lying about all of that, but I don't know what purpose there is to presenting yourself as an unfinished transexual on several different websites for several years.

As for the con thing, well, she asks for donations and they didn't seem to do any good.

Don't they have torrent trackers in your part of the woods, anyway? There shouldn't be any problem with finding vgm to download these days.

Yeah, but there's those of us who download older obscure stuff and go "HEY THIS SOUNDS GOOD I SHOULD TRY THE GAME."

I mean, I do that a LOT in general; Xenogears's OST is what made me interested in the game. At the time, "giant mecha" was pretty off my radar. Still is, generally, but I don't just write the whole genre off because I'm annoyed by Gundam.

Oh, also they host arrange albums and other oddities.

Xenogears is the most obscure video game, made on the most ignored console, produced by the darkest horse publisher.

wvlfpvp Jan 3, 2009 11:01 PM

... I understand that, I was just making a point with something that I wouldn't have played if the music hadn't intrigued me. Hell, I LIKED Mitsuda at the time and it took me a while to actually get into the OST.

I was just sayin'. I mean, if it wasn't for SD's posting of old Ys music I don't know if I'd have the games on my "eventual must play" list.

Sarag Jan 3, 2009 11:17 PM

And I'm just saying that Xenogears is a really obscure game, that doesn't have major game strengths and weaknesses that gaming forums (similar to this one!) discuss at length. It's hard to find any information on this game without an intense search! not like Ys, and how Adol's mother gets killed by- well, that would be telling.
