This definitely looks like one that could be worth checking out, but then again the XBLA has been full of fail (or straight up mediocre stuff) for quite a while now so I won't necessarily hold my breath. Fingers crossed though.

I played the demo and found it to be rather mediocre. I think your raging nostalgia hard-on for that game blinded you to the fact that it was actually a pretty average effort. It's been a while since anything great has landed on XBLA besides SSFIITHDR (insert Skills rage here about that one).

And I'm hopeful for this, I'm just not going to get too excited before I get a chance to play it for myself.

Going into V8 expecting anything other than V8 is certainly silly and dumb. The end product was pretty much a perfect remake. Nostalgia be damned, it is a great car combat game.

You can't say "average effort" and then turn around and praise another remake for being just as true to the source material from which it comes.

Aw, was kinda hoping it'd be a remake of the first game. I reconise all those screens from Coast 2 Coast, ie; the best handheld game/anything game ever. But maybe they'll sneak in some erotic surprises. Fuck you SEGA, you can have some more of my money. :mad:

Meh, I never liked Outrun. It's like Burnout with fewer cars on the road and not much in the way of corners. I find that nostalgia for old games is generally best left as nostalgia too, they're never as good as you remember them.

I'm probably looking forward more to Skills' crushing dissapointment when he finds out this is broken and demands a refund than to the actual game. Also finding it amusing that they bothered to licence actual Ferraris and didn't bother to draw them to look much like actual Ferraris.

What? There is nothing remotely close to Burnout going on here short of "there is traffic on the road". And that's not really an apt comparison. It's like comparing San Francisco Rush to Beetle Adventure Racing or something. Just doesn't work. =o

Also Ferrari's (or pretend lookalikes) have been a feature of these things forever, so.

(Also in my own defense I'm not buying this solely for the online, so in the off chance [not damn likely considering how C2C was well implemented] that that part sucks, I'll probably like the rest of the game enough not to demand my points back.)

OutRun and Burnout are sort of the same in that they're both relaxing. OutRun's like "man this is nice, look at that sunset, these are the best locations ever, Magical Sound Shower goes so well with this" then you start nodding off because you're so relaxed. BAM, INTO A SIGN. CAR'S FLIPPIN, GIRLFRIEND'S ANGRY, TIME'S UP GAME OVER.

And Burnout's all "fucking game over in OutRun, FUCKING HIT THIS ONCOMING BLUE CAR, SHOWED YOU A LESSON, YOU BETTER WRITE THAT ONE DOWN IN YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY."

They both feature fast cars, they both have other traffic as the main thing you need to avoid and they both are notable for a lack of corners you need to slow down for. That's pretty similar in my book.

I know they've always had Ferraris which makes it all the more strange that they suck so badly at drawing them.

There's a fair bit of variety between racing games, man. These things are not all that similar, especially when your points of comparison are two genre staples. That's all I'm sayin'.

I also heard Prince of Persia is no different than Ninja Gaiden. Swords and wallruns? Check. Same shit.

Seriously though, I am looking forward to this simply because it'll be one less shitty XBLA title on the console. I think I've bought maybe two in the past couple of months. Here's to more like this.

You can wallrun in Mirror's Edge, and there's a time slowdown function. Copy of Sands of Time?

There's aliens in Contra that can explode violently when shot. Copy of Gears of War?

There's a chick with a gun in Metroid, copy of Tomb Raider?

I know, I know, it's just I was never a big fan of Outrun so I've always generally dismissed the games. With the exception of Burnout I've never really been big into arcade racers full stop so I tend to lump them all together.

And behind the different settings, Prince of Persia and Ninja Gaiden aren't that different anyway =P
