I was about to post a lengthy reply about what I didn't like, but then I'd be playing right into your hands. NOT THIS TIME, LEHAH.

Misogynyst Gynecologist Dec 15, 2008 05:45 PM

I want to get enthused about this trailer but I just can't. It doesn't look incredibly bad but it certainly doesn't look great either.

The helicopter part was pretty much the only thing that worked for me. Id pay to watch Hugh Jackman read the morning paper while taking a shit, though.

Jessykins Dec 15, 2008 05:49 PM

Just how gay are you, exactly?

Wall Feces Dec 15, 2008 05:53 PM

The action looks pretty cool, and I'm excited to finally see Gambit, but other than that it looks like pretty standard crap. How an X-Men film could be worse than X-Men 3 might finally be answered this May.

Then again, Gran Torino looks like an old man kicking Asian ass while saying "Get off my lawn" and fulfilling many other elderly stereotypes, and it's apparently pretty good.

I am gay. FOR YOU!

i'm kinda of a geek when it comes with super powers and x-men and I'm sort of a sucker to seeing the bones claws. I also liked X2 and if its as good as that then that would be good enough for me.

Jessykins Dec 15, 2008 09:59 PM

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to see this. Gambit's first big-screen appearance? Deadpool? I hate it, but I must witness this, even if it's awful. At least there might be some mildly entertaining action.

Vampiro Dec 16, 2008 10:03 AM

Can't imagine it being too terrible. Seems like Marvel is really trying to make their movies as good as possible, and hell, even if it did look terrible I'd still go see it. Can't help but watch comic movies in the theater.

Probably be cheesy though.

Marvel...tries to make their A-List movies as good as possible. Spidey, Iron Man, X-Men. That's about it.

And then you have this huuuuge gap and you get stuff like Ghost Rider, Hulk (v1 and v2) and Punisher (and I'm sure there are lots more I'm just not remembering).

And you can't really complain about comic book movies being cheesy. That's the point, I think. But you definitely have some that are really GOOD and some that are really bad. But they're all cheesy.

Gambit looks pretty awesome, though. I always hated the reason he was left out of the X-Men movies: his powers are "too much like Cyclops." Really Bryan Singer? Really?

But the movie that I'm waiting for the most is the inevitable Avengers. Plus, if they hold true to Iron Man... Samuel L. Jackson! Hell yeah.

Ang Lee's Hulk is by a wide margin the most daring comic book movie adaptation to hit screens. While not all of it works, it treats its material with a level of sincerity missing from most other movies in the genre.

And then he went for dick punching jokes and it just sort of... took a turn. But at least he actually dealt with the metaphor.

Well, I mean, not the metaphor of dick punching. The metaphor of Hulk and Bruce Banner.

Well, its much harder to take an old analogy (Cold War / Nuclear Fear) and turn it into a current one (Child Abuse) and still make it as solid as the original ever was. You can't say that about Batman Begins 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Ramenbetsu Dec 21, 2008 07:56 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates Ang Lee's Hulk.

Guru Dec 22, 2008 04:00 PM

I think the problem with the Hulk is that he's just not that much of an endearing character, and it's hard for people to really care about him, or the movies he's in. It's mirrored by how often he's used as some sort of monstrous, out-of-control "bad guy" in a lot of the Marvel comics, past and present.

Wolverine is going to do just fine because A) it's wolverine and B) Hugh Jackman. You'll have kids, geeks and moms-with-crushes all in line for tickets.

VitaminZinc Jan 5, 2009 12:01 AM

I'm going to see this just for Deadpool.

Anything else that happens is just filler.

WolfDemon May 3, 2009 11:51 PM

Just watched this tonight. It was a lot better than X3, but definitely not without it's faults.

Spoiler:
The whole thing with Wolverine and Sabertooth being brothers bothered me a lot at first, but if you look at the movies as an alternate universe, it's not so bad. And the adamantium bullet to the head explains why he doesn't recognize Sabertooth in X1.

My biggest gripe was with Deadpool. I never read any of the comics, so I don't really consider myself a comic nerd, but I do know the basics of a lot of the characters. In the beginning, this Deadpool was pretty close to the comic version. He was a smartass and used swords. The only things missing were the red costume and the breaking of the fourth wall. But when he comes back in the end of the movie, he has adamantium swords in his arms which make him look like a knock off of Baraka from Mortal Kombat, is silent due to his mouth being sewn shut by Stryker (which is alluded to in the beginning when he says "If you didn't have that mouth you'd be a great soldier.") and has the teleporting and optic blast powers of John Wraith and Scott Summers, respectively. Completely fucking ridiculous.

And young Xavier might as well have been completely CG, he looked so fake.

Anybody who heard that Deadpool was gonna be in an X-Men movie and thought "wow, great idea" needs to be stabbed in the face.

So yeah, I was lying. I wouldn't dare see this ever.

Bradylama May 4, 2009 01:49 AM

The first in a long line of good decisions, surely.

ziggythecat May 4, 2009 03:12 PM

i didn't expect much but the "screwing" with deadpool completely jacked it up. WTF.

KCJ506 May 4, 2009 03:26 PM

So anyone else hear about the different multiple endings that play after the credits depending on which theater the movie was shown in. If you didn't know about it and are interested here they are.

Spoiler:
- The first altenate scene you see Weapon XI's hand reaching out from the rubble of the nuclear complex to touch his severed head, where upon the head comes to life and makes a brief hushing sound before the scene fades to black; breaking the fourth wall like the Deadpool comics.

- The second alternate ending shows Weapon XI going to grab his head, similar to the first ending, but then a man in a black coat steps on the arm, stopping Weapon XI, and picks up the head. The camera then turns around and it is Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) who then asks "What the hell are you supposed to be?"

- The third alternate scene shows Wolverine drinking at a bar in Japan. The female bartender asks if he is drinking to forget; Wolverine replies that he's drinking to remember.

Bradylama May 4, 2009 10:40 PM

If they make a Deadpool movie with all those bullshit anime powers I'm gonna be livid.
