This is an absolutely stunning arranging of Touhou music. The love the electronica and Asian infused arrangement. Is the rest of the album just as good Djinova? If so, I'll need to track it down.

2 points: RAY-KUDRYAVKA musiX - A3 - The broken sun

This is a nice catchy piece of music here. I love the jazz influence and it reminds me of something I'd hear in a Megaman game (not unlike another contestant of ours). There was just a lot going on here that I really enjoyed. Tough to pinpoint.

1 point: Neon Tango (Game RIp) - Strange New World

This ended up being a bit better than expected. I was afraid it wouldn't change too much from the rock, but I did like how the synth and piano sections kicked in at times. A nice find!

The rest were hit and miss for me. A few good ones, and a few that put me to sleep. For some reason, the Mother 3 song reminded of Dr. Wily Stage 1 from Megaman 2 a BIT too much in the guitar riffs, but I did enjoy it.

Figures an (awesome) Genesis track being nominated just when I wanted to nominate one too. :sega:

(3 points) Neon Tango (Game Rip) - Strange New World

(1 point) RAY-KUDRYAVKA musiX - A3 - The broken sun

Arsys Best Selection - To the Distant Cosmos Nicely spacey chipstyle tune. It doesn't have the most memorable melodic chops, but it's good for what it is.

Daffy Duck: The Marvin Missions (SNES Game Rip) - The Incredible Shrinking Duck Off-kilter jazz fusion. The bass line is really quirky and neat; the tinny trumpet lead is pretty bad though. If it'd had a better instrument out in front, this one would have been a winner.

et cetra:ETC ~ESTi's Temporary Collection~ - Phantom Goes to Far East I think Djinova needs to win some sort of obscurity award for all these left-field nominations. They're not always good, but they usually demand attention. This is one of the best; it's got a nice new-age sound and a good melody--the only real minuses are a couple of overused library sounds and a bizarre skippy interlude.

Mother 3 (Game Rip) - Natural Killer Cyborg (Boss Battle, VS The NCK!) It was really hard to choose a Mother 3 nom; most of the game's songs were too short or had spoilery titles. This one, though, was perfect: it's both a tribute to the final boss music in Earthbound and a rockin' tune in its own right with plenty of nods to Keiichi Suzuki.

Neon Tango (Game Rip) - Strange New World Not really sure what to expect from this one, but it turned out to be quite excellent--a nice rock/electronica fusion with great melody and rhythm (and a piano for good measure!). Terrific stuff. Is the whole rip as much fun?

Plus Alpha - Sun Colors (Stage 4 "Snow Country") Not really snowy in the stereotypical sense, but a good tune anyway. Nice drive, decent melody, and a bit of that old school flair.

pop'n music 11 AC ♥ CS pop'n music 9 - AUSLANDSGESPRÄCH [80's WERK] The use of phone sounds was interesting at first. After a minute, though, it started to get kind of annoying (makes sense, those sounds were designed to be irritating). Some good stuff, definitely, but the phone stuff wound up being a pretty big turnoff.

RAY-KUDRYAVKA musiX - A3 - The broken sun Some fine bouncyjazzysynth. Not as much variation as I'd like, but thoroughly fun from start to finish.

EXCELLENT week. I wish I had 12 points to distribute.

The Point Spread
Natural Killer Cyborg - 3 pts.
Strange New World - 2 pts.
Phantom Goes East - 1 pt.
Sun Colors, The broken sun - Just missed.

This week kicks ass. No joke, these are all some top-notch tracks and I'm only glad that I'm not competing against them.

2 Points: Neon Tango (Game Rip) - Strange New World
2 Points: Mother 3 (Game Rip) - Natural Killer Cyborg (Boss Battle, VS The NCK!)
1 Point: et cetra:ETC ~ESTi's Temporary Collection~ - Phantom Goes to Far East
1 Point: RAY-KUDRYAVKA musiX - A3 - The broken sun

A shame all four of these cannot place. The rest were good too but these ones stood out for me. I love these synth-heavy weeks.

Darkcomet72 Dec 17, 2008 07:00 PM

Okay either I'm going crazy, or I know I heard the catchy sawtooth jingle in AUSLANDSGESPRACH before. It sounds VERY familiar, but I just can't place my finger on it. Anyone else hear it?

Also yeahhhhhhhh there's my main man Hedges groovin' out like only he can.

New rule: Only Pink Floyd and Secret of Mana Plus can use phone effects. No one else. It's not even worth trying.

Like others, I enjoyed this week much. I sometimes wish I had more one-pointers to dole out without devaluing the top tracks of the week.

Whichever poor song gets stuck with 8th this week will not be deserving of a last place finish. Maybe we'll get lucky and have a 6-way tie for third instead.

In my opinion, it's not. Actually I first heard it from [Sound Sepher] Cradle. This is an album I would recommend you to track down. Still if you're interested in the album above, I can upload it.

[whoa there's always a starry track in SotW, huh] Arsys Best Selection - To the Distant Cosmos is decent. Nothing really impresses me, and nothing really irks me either. It helps that the section around the one minute mark is pretty cool. Yeah, decent.

Daffy Duck: The Marvin Missions (SNES Game Rip) - The Incredible Shrinking Duck isn't a really memorable track, but I really like the style of jazz here. The cute, bumbling instrumentation compliments it really nicely, too. Solid~

et cetra:ETC ~ESTi's Temporary Collection~ - Phantom Goes to Far East is so purrty. Smooth, elegant, and some great melodic elements. This is one fine track, that's for sure.

Mother 3 (Game Rip) - Natural Killer Cyborg (Boss Battle, VS The NCK!) is whoa, really rockin'! I still haven't gotten around to playing Mother 3 (:(), but I really like what I've heard from the soundtrack. This is extremely high sound and compositional quality, and the rock gauge is off the charts.

Neon Tango (Game Rip) - Strange New World is indeed pretty good. Some great, structured progressions and a fierce, engaging drive. Not my favourite track this week, but it's still a good'un.

Plus Alpha - Sun Colors (Stage 4 "Snow Country") is a nice, effervescent bundle of melodic energy. ^___^ I usually like tracks such as this, and they usually get stuck in my head really easily. I don't agree with some of the progressions, but on the whole, this is fun!

pop'n music 11 AC ♥ CS pop'n music 9 - AUSLANDSGESPRÄCH [80's WERK] was interesting. Not my sort of thing, but it makes for an intriguing listen to say the least.

RAY-KUDRYAVKA musiX - A3 - The broken sun's melodies got old really quickly, sadly. A bundle of potential, but as it stands it sounded fairly mediocre to me.

*ring ring* can someone please hurry up and answer that POINT?!

4th: Neon Tango (Game Rip) - Strange New World

6th: Arsys Best Selection - To the Distant Cosmos
7th: pop'n music 11 AC ♥ CS pop'n music 9 - AUSLANDSGESPRÄCH [80's WERK]
8th: RAY-KUDRYAVKA musiX - A3 - The broken sun

Nice week.

Elorin Dec 22, 2008 03:56 AM

Have to agree that this is a great week. A lot of standout tracks.

(2 points) Neon Tango (Game Rip) - Strange New World
Probably the most upbeat track this week and a neat one at that. Love the synth.

(2 points) et cetra - ETC ~ESTi's Temporary Collection~ - Phantom Goes To Far East
Very sublime. Was half expecting something more upbeat from ESTi. Kudos to the nominator.

(1 point) pop'n music 11 AC & CS pop'n music 9 - AUSLANDSGESPRACH [80's WERK]
The intro didn't quite work for me but this track turned out to be quite cool, phone effects and all.

(1 point) Arsys Best Selection - To the Distant Cosmos
The song has an excellent first half and I was tempted to give it two points. But the second half, while alright, doesn't quite compare with what came before. Pity.

Special mention for the Ray nomination.

Quick nom! I'm lucky this didn't close already.

Album: Jazz Jackrabbit (Game Rip)
Artist: Robert Allen
Track Title: Tubelectric
Track #: N/A
Year: 1994

Also, I thought this was a decent week, not nearly the best. Since I've seen so many mentions of this being the best week (or one of the best), I'll just say that I still think the best week (at least that I voted on) was Week 70 (Solstice's Main Theme, Outside Brandon's Home, Ballad of Hope, Fly!, Oriental Dark Flight, Kikuta's Mysterious Story ... Part 4, Satan (V) from Symphonic Dragon Quest and Batland Castle - all enjoyable, and not a single weak track among them).

Now that I'm thinking about it, it would be interesting to look back and discuss what everyone thinks the best weeks ever were.

2 pts. - Strange New World
1 pt. - To The Distant Cosmos
1 pt. - Phantom Goes to Far East
1 pt. - Natural Killer Cyborg
1 pt. - The Incredible Shrinking Duck - Not something I would listen to again, but it's nice to hear something interesting and different like this in SotW.
Almost - Sun Colors - Simply for the drum beat at 0:14.

lolno, I just hope the people (you (pl.)) understand that the comments do have something to do with what I think about the track, just in a more roundabout way.
Btw, these are not strange results but ehh!??
