Not a massive amount of surprise to be had there, all the nods seem to have gone the way you'd expect, certainly given the buzz floating about. I'm glad to see that Californication got some nominations, I've really been enjoying that show and David Duchovny for Best Actor (TV Musical or Comedy) wouldn't be out of line.

Aardark Dec 11, 2008 01:21 PM

I just hope Tom Cruise doesn't win best supporting actor for Tropic Thunder. His role wasn't even funny, it's just like 'hey it's TOM CRUISE in a fat suit, how crazy is that!''

Though I guess Ledger will get that prize.

Nothing's guaranteed, but I would be very surprised if he didn't.

Didn't expect to see Kiefer nominated for Redemption. As much as it would be cool for him to win, Paul Giammatti beats him out with John Adams. That series will tear it up.

And go Dexter and Michael C Hall for the win!

Have you ever seen someone try to fill up the screen with so much and end up with so fucking little? For the Joker, it sure was a humorless, boring job on his part.

No. Hard Pass. Dec 11, 2008 04:43 PM

Heath Ledger, "The Dark Knight"

Anna Paquin, "True Blood"

My eyes. They can't roll hard enough.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Dec 11, 2008 04:52 PM

Pretty sure Paquin had her shirt off there, which is good enough for me.

She use to have cleavage to write home about. Now they barely rate above mosquito bites.

Not a lot of surprises, as people have said. The biggest non-surprise is The Shield getting ignored once again. It's a shame that it didn't get a nod for Best Drama, and a travesty that Walton Goggins didn't get a nod for his tear-jerking pitch-perfect performance this season. The Globes have never really done much for me, so I'll save my heavy-drinking-level disappointment for The Emmys, when The Shield will probably get ignored again.

I'm glad Downey Jr. got a nod for Tropic Thunder, though Ledger is sure to walk away with that award without much trouble.

Anna Paquin, wow lol.

Surprised to see In Bruges taking a few nominations. My roommate loved it but I never got around to seeing it. It's rare enough that a film released before October gets any sort of award consideration, let alone one that kinda came and went like In Bruges. Anybody here see it?

Yes, always hope for the emmys.

I think the The Shield has to have nominations for the Emmy awards. The whole industry should just die if such does not occur.:p

Says some idiot with a 24 avatar on the internet, like he has some understanding of how these things work.

The unmovable stubborn Dec 11, 2008 08:33 PM

An avatar I really, really wish he would change.

I mean, why the fuck is it zoomed in so close? Why the HELL does this man feel the need for us all to be within kissing distance of Kiefer fucking Sutherland?

It's like that room with the giant head in Silent Hill 4.

To you cleverness is just something that sort of happens, like magic, to other people, isn't it.

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Dec 12, 2008 04:47 AM

Saw this movie called The Godfather the other day. Heard good things.

It was alright.

Dear Diary:

Today a man who uses the word "internets" and spells it with a Z called me a douchebag.

Really happy to see Kate Winslet getting some serious love this year, same with Mickey Rourke. Not at all surprised by all the blowjobbery that Slumdog got, but was honestly shocked when it won Best Original Score. Seriously now, that's ridiculous.

The highlight of the show for me was Sasha Baron Cohen taking a potshot at Guy Ritchie and getting booed by everyone. Fucking brilliant.

No. Hard Pass. Jan 11, 2009 11:14 PM

This is precisely why I don't watch these award shows. No less than five things that would have made me throw my shoes at the TV.

Come on, the theme of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is by far the best piece of music ever.

Was there any other music in the movie?

Grundlefield Earth Jan 11, 2009 11:46 PM

I assume most havent even seen a lot of the movies since they have either just released or have come out overseas first. Not that I am complaining, gives me something to seek out when I want to watch something.

HOLLA FOR JOHN ADAMS! ... should have won best score for the main theme alone, but its a miniseries =p

Oh and no Shield so boooooo
