Help Recommending a Suitable Game

Hi.

Basically I am looking for a strategy game for the PC which may possibly have some similarities to the ''Hero'' system on Warcraft 3.

I absolutley loved Warcraft 3 (and the Frozen Throne) and in particular the style of gameplay which involves the hero's.

I like having a Unit which is very special giving it the ability to lead other units into battle. I think this is because I am not incredible at making the most out of many different units together. I like to one or two units which are very strong and can bolster an army.

Can anyone help out at all?

Thank You

You might want to give one of the Lord of the Rings Battle for Middlearth games a try.
They have 'hero' units that have benefits for your units.

SpellForce is similar to Warcrft 3 (or so i'm told.) It has the same RPG elements to it.
As in you can level-up your hero to make them stronger, and they can cast spells to help out your units in battle.

There aren't many "hero" stuff on strategy games unless they have RPG elements. And personally I find strategey games with RPG elements SUCKS ASS TO THE CORE.

Just like Domino mentioned, the LOTR has "hero" units.

Neverwinter Nights & WarCraft III are the best RPGs of 2002. Might one check those out.

He is looking for a strategy game with "heros" like W3... not RPG.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War has some herotype units, but not too much leveling up or anything. The gameplay is damn amazing though, and you'll forget about wanting to level up heroes in no time...

A classic, which is like this, is Tzar. There's lots of upgrading for individual units and stuff, you can also level up and train all of your individual units, making it really amazing...

While it may not be real-time, Heroes of Might and Magic II and III (and their expansions) are a great bet, you've got Heroes who 'fight' (actually, they just cast spells during combat, their minions, who you command do all the dirty work) with other heroes and turn based strategy + RPG elements aplenty. It's a very addictive game, so tread lightly, or you might lose a night to playing the game.

Yes, I remember playing the old Heroes of Might and Magic quite a bit. It is fantastic.

A couple of my friends were crazy about Neverwinter Nights for a while but I have never been keen on RPG games, don't know why.

I guess the ideal would be for another Warcraft 3 Expansion to be released, however I don't know if this is on the horizon.

World of Warcraft isn't really what I am looking for either.

I liked Star Trek Armada 2 even though it doesen't involve the hero system.

I'd suggest trying out Battle for Middle Earth II. Its about as close as you'll get. I played the first and didn't like it all that much, byt it may be personal preference there.

The Warhamer 40k game with its expansion come close to what you're looking for.

Fast-paced RTS with some hero units. Each Hero unit have hteir own power to oblsert the morale of their troops (rather important when it comes to 40k games) and of course AOE-style moves. Gameplay is pretty tight :D
